I have a feeling it's a legal issue--possibly related to pedophiles--why they've moved away from private homes. They don't even want individual witnesses claiming to be representatives of the WTS. If they can't have complete control over a meeting venue, they'd rather not use it.

House Churches
by Satanus inthe wt prides itself on closely following first century christianity, well, at least preaching.
the bible indicates that christians met in homes, often presided over by the owners of those homes.
they are now commonly called house churches.

Ouija Board Hysteria
by Megachusen ini always wondered why jw's were always so afraid of ouija(pronounced as "wee-yaw" not "wee-gee") boards.
does anyone have any speculation about who started these jw myths?.
anyone who has actually tried the board and would like to give their opinions are welcome.

I don't even want to believe in spirits - why would I work to prove they exist?
One more thing, Jeff. I did not disbelieve you or your familys' claims about the events that happened. I simply say that I do not subscribe to the conclusions that you or they have made based on the events. You don't seem happy about those conclusions. So why am I the bad guy for offering the suggestion that alternate explanations may be possible? Is it wrong or insensitive to suggest that a more palatable alternative may exist? This does not call into question the veracity of anyone's experiences.
On another note, I don't understand the sentiment that some have expressed in that they do not wish to confirm whether demons exist. My next door neighbor might be a pedophile. If he is, I want to know. Knowledge is power. If there are evil spirits whose activities impact humanity, I likewise want to know. Then I have a sold basis of knowledge from which to make decisions. Not knowing something does not change the fact of its existence or nonexistence.

Really? I thought this was a thread about what some have experienced - why do we have to provide evidence for what we experienced? I don't even want to believe in spirits - why would I work to prove they exist? Others have reported experiences. You can't go back and recreate experiences so that the pseudoscientists here will find satisfaction that you are just an idiot.
Jeff, I have been nothing but respectful. I would appreciate it if you would abide by posting guideline #1. No where did I say you have to provide evidence for what you experienced. I only said that without providing evidence, no one else is bound to interpret your experience in the same manner that you did. I have great respect for you as a poster and I am hurt that you have responded so vehemently to a statement on my part that did not warrant it.
What kind of evidence would suffice?
Did you watch the video I posted? It provides a partial answer to that question. The rest of the answer can be found by doing some research on empirical evidence and scientific method. I'll give you a summation here:
Scientific or empirical approach is inductive, and bases its explanations upon that which can be directly observed in a replicable or repeatable manner.
Empirical evidence cannot be used to prove the existence of God, a human soul or most other religious concepts. This does not cause me to disparrage those who choose to believe in such things. It does however constitute the basis for why I choose not to believe in such things.

What I do find annoying is for someone who wasn't there, do not know me, no nothing of me to assume that my experience is a piece of fabrication. However, to each its own thought.
No one is claiming that your experience is fabricated. I think I speak for everyone here (correct me if I'm wrong) when I say we accept that you had this experience. What people question, as Megachusen said earlier, is the interpretation you have made for the cause of the events. If you do not wish to examine the event further, that is your right. If you wish to ascribe it to paranormal activity, that is your right. You are welcome to believe whatever you wish and we respect that. What us nonbelievers take issue with is the idea that we should come to the same interpretation of the event that you did without evidence any harder than your own perception and conclusions.
To put it simply, you can believe whatever you want. If you want us to believe it, too, you'll have to provide empirical evidence.

Coincidence: a striking occurrence of two or more events at one time apparently by mere chance. It does happen in nature. We don't notice the 50 billion times that coincidences don't happen. But the handful of times they do, we remember.

angel eyes, if I look at Jehovah's Witnesses and see that they do NOT have love among themselves (this has been my experience in multiple congregations and I'm hardly alone) what is to prevent me from concluding that they are NOT Jesus' disciples? If I see a church of another religion that DOES have love among themselves, what is to prevent me from concluding that they ARE Jesus' disciples?
Not sure if you saw my question.

What JW apologist do not understand.
by Anti-Christ inthe more i read the comments made by jw who still "believe" in the doctrines of the wt the more i see that they are in denial.
first off they debate on a board they are not even supposed to be on, they are going directly against the gb counsel.
when they debate they do not give the actual wt doctrine as an example they give their own personal opinion, their own interpretation a watered down version of the doctrine to make it look better, less aggressive.
