When I take the time to give a thoughtful answer to someone's post and they ignore my response. When I ask someone reasonable questions and they ignore them in favor of carrying on ridiculous arguments with other people. When someone persists in taking what I said the wrong way even though I explain over and over again that it's not the way I meant it. When someone refuses to listen to what you say but expects you to listen to them. When someone is just waiting for your mouth to stop moving so they can resume talking about themselves.
When people drive erratically and endager others on the highway because they hate going "slow."
When women act like friggin' morons because they're in

No ragamuffins, drunken people or psychotics. No wonder none of us got far with the Tower.

What's with all the 'Imminent' nonsense?
by AK - Jeff incould it be that the proximity of 2014 is at the heart of it?.
i have no contact with jw's - except on this board - but my wife does at times with her family.
imminent is the cry of the sky for the jw's it seems.. i recall the years leading up to 1975 with a lot of that sort of thing.

Ha! I just opened this thread because I saw that Leolaia was the last one to post and I wanted to see what deep insight or research she had for this topic.

by Hikaru injust wondering...they ssay too stay away from babylon the great and everything about her.
what about music from bands that claim they're "christian?
" some i can kinda see if they have god in the lyrics, but others just claim it and the songs don't have it in the lyrics.. everyone interprets music differently, don't they?

Only two religious groups see a problem with songs lyrics that mention God. Satanists and Jehovah's Witnesses. Why are you so afraid of songs that mention God?
Why are you posting these questions here rather than on a board with acting JWs? I'm sure the Christians here think Christian music is just fine and the atheists/agnostics probably don't give a flying leap what you choose to listen to. What do you want from life, chica?

Can't speak on the mixed marriage front, but here's the deal with your man: If he goes back to the witnesses he will be disfellowshipped for comitting fornication with you. He will have to show signs of repentence by going to all the meetings. It can take 6 months to a year to be reinstated. None of the witnesses will be allowed to speak to him in that time. He will not be allowed to associate with non-JWs in that time.
Plenty of people leave the JWs like your boy did because they "feel" trapped by the lifestyle, but they haven't examined the teachings to see whether they're true or not. They take it for granted that the witnesses do teach the truth. They assume that they are just bad or weak for not living up to it. The best thing you can do for this man is help him see that the witnesses do NOT teach the truth. This may be trickier than it sounds. There must be some comfort in believing that, even though one isn't living the proper lifestyle, one can always go back to it later and be in God's good graces. He needs to learn that he can ditch that train wreck without being punished by God.
I recommend bringing the subject up in a questioning, rather than dogmatic, way. This thread has all my material on reasoning with witnesses. There are plenty of other resources showing the falsehoods inherent in witness teachings. jwfacts.com is a good one.
Good luck to you, congratulations on the baby, and welcome to JWN.

Here's another question: Does it matter if Spike is lying? So what if he is? What does it hurt to take him at face value?
Does it mean anything that the men are jumping on him and the women are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt?

has the religion you've chosen made you a better person?

I'm curious about how people who have shifted religious beliefs feel about their own morals. Has the religion you've chosen made you a better person? Has becoming an atheist/agnostic made you a better person?
It's been my experience that most people feel like whatever path they are on now has made them more morally mature. I wonder if it's not the path itself that's important, but the mental application that goes into choosing a path. Combine this with the maturity that tends to grow as we age.
Thoughts?
