  i was raised as a jw and have several family members who are witnesses, including my mother.

  while i love and respect her very much i was very resentful of being raised in "the truth".

  there are several reasons but the main one is the way i was "counseled" and ultimately publically pointed out as a bad associate.

  Turning your back on God isn't a very healthy way to deal with your confusion.

  Saying that someone has turned their back on God is like saying someone turned their back on Santa Claus. If you believe in God, fine, worship accordingly. But if someone else doesn't see reasonable proof of God's existence, that in no way constitutes turning their back on him.

  EDIT: You have to have a relationship with someone before you can turn your back on them. Even if I assume God exists, we did not know him as witnesses therefore we cannot have turned our backs on him. If someone proceeds to find God upon leaving the JWs, that's another matter.

  We mutually ended my "studies" today

  just wanted to say thanks for all the 'help' some of you have been and all the help some of you have been.. .

  we mutually ended studies today, i think my two witnesses realised that they were losing more ground than they gained :-s.. .

  eep, i never set out to upset them, but i think they fear they're losing their faith.. .

  Welcome jwdecendant!

  They do not officially sanction anyone who has not been baptized. Individually, some people will still choose to have limited association with such a person (just like a "worldly" person) others will treat you like you're disfellowshipped. I do not know if this policy used to be different, or what they have in writing about it.

  afterall i represent Jah and his org so sadly some will attack me because of that

  angel eyes, as a self-proclaimed representative of Jehovah and his organization, I asked you what could recommend that organization to me in the face of certain established facts. You refused. You have burried your talent. in the ground. Do you remember what happened to the slave that did that?

  If I claim Hoboken, New Jersey is the most wonderful place on earth, and you are familiar with facts that make you believe it's not, and I provide NO evidence to back my claim, why on earth should anyone believe me? Either back up your claim that the WTS is God's chosen organization or stop claiming it is.

  i am not a jehovah's witness, and until yesturday i never knew the beliefs of your congregation.

  when i did finally read them, i was amazed to discover that most of what the lord has revealed to me as truth, through my prayers and studies, is found in your beliefs.

  and out of all the christian denominations that exist, "most" of your beliefs are according to the word of god, unlike the other churches.. .

  one of our resident apologists has given her response on this thread.

  you can judge the relative worth of her response for yourself.. "by their fruit you will recognize them.

  Had I known this subject would be taken so out of context, I would have clarified more in my OP. My intent here was not to figure out what the Bible really means by these texts. Which is not to say that discussion to that end is unwelcome and I thank everyone for their posts here. My intent was to use the JW's own criteria to determine whether they have the truth.

  In Captives of a Concept, Don Cameron argues that the Witnesses cannot have the truth by examining what they were teaching in 1919. Does that mean he believes that Jesus inspected the world's religions in order to choose one in 1919? No. But the witnesses do, and he uses this to show the contradiction between their teachings, thereby proving them false. That was my intention here, albeit from a different angle.
