Yes yes and yes! Guilt defined my existence. Stopped the second I realized the JWs weren't God's people.

Were You Always Feeling Guilty As A Witness?
by minimus ini think the religion works on guilt.
everyone is made to feel they're not good enough some how or perhaps they practice a "secret sin" and it gnaws at them.
so they decide to pioneer or "do more", recognizing they can never really make up for whatever shortcomings they have.. were you a guilt ridden jw?

Could God create a rock so heavy He could not lift it?
by nicolaou inone question that stretched theologians during the middle ages was; could god envision or make a four sided triangle or a three sided square or some other atrocity.
at first the problem seems foolish, but it really is an instance of a more fundamental problem: is god bound and limited by the laws of reason and logic or not?.
i've had this conversation on jwd before but i was never satisfied with it.

My boyfriends answer: he believes there are things in this universe that we cannot comprehend and our minds refuse to recognize them. Our minds substitute more familiar things for things that exist outside of our perception. Just because we don't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Like the Q on Star Trek. They only appear as humans because the humans couldn't comprehend them in their true form.
I think that's an interesting take on the subject.

Wow, thank you so much for sharing your experience Qcmber. I didn't know we had any LDS on the board. I'm sorry you've had such a rough experience. Your story does give me hope that someday my best friend will honestly examine why I left the JWs.
Unfortunately, I had an emergency this afternoon and had to leave the house. I left a note for the girls apologizing and they left me their phone number. I'll set up another time with them next week.

If there was a snake that big in my house, I don't care if it could fly, I'd beat the hell out of it.

Who is your Spiritual Guide?
by Butterflyleia85 income, now, you who say: today or tomorrow we will journey to this city and will spend a year there, and we will engage in business and make profits, whereas you do not know what your life will be tomorrow.
for you are a mist appearing for a little while and then disappearing.
instead, you ought to say: if jehovah wills, we shall live and also do this or that.

YOU are the best spiritual guide you could ever have. I know that sounds stupid in light of what you're saying--how could you possibly guide yourself when you don't know where you're going?
Let me give you an illustration: do you like to hike through the woods? (I do.) I get a map or follow a trail and enjoy my hike. But I wonder about who made the trail. At some point there was no trail, someone found their way through the woods and created the trail with no outside help. How did they do that? They learned how to navigate through the woods by themselves.
How does this apply? You want to know where to go on your spiritual journey, but there is no clearly defined path laid for you. But you can learn how to navigate yourself by cultivating your thinking abilities.
Blacksheep recommended a wonderful book called Teach Your Children to Think by Edward de Bono. I'm in the middle of reading it right now. Mr. de Bono has an abundance of books. You can check them out here. See if your library has any of them.
Once you train yourself how to use your thinking to its maximum potential, you'll be better able to evaluate ideas and choose the best spiritual path for you.

I feel like I need to re-emphasize my first stated reason for doing this: This is practice for when the witnesses come. It is important for me to talk to the JWs. It's just something I feel I have to do for my own peace of mind.
I write well. I do not speak well. I have an auditory processing disorder. I am very introverted and nervous in social situations. When I first saw these girls and thought they were JWs, my first reaction was panic. Having them at my house and practicing some of the questions and reasonings I want to have for the JWs will help put me at ease. I feel less pressure with them because I do not feel the need to score any points here.
