I don't know anything about them. Steve Hassan has a list of questions to ask of any group to determine if they are legitimate or a high control group (cult). http://www.freedomofmind.com/resourcecenter/responsibility/questions.htm

What are the fruits that we are supposed to recognize?
by bluecanary ini posted most of this on another thread but i want this to stand alone so i can refer back to it in the future.
one of our resident apologists has given her response on this thread.
you can judge the relative worth of her response for yourself.. "by their fruit you will recognize them.

Another JW completely ignores my valid question. What a surprise.

Welcom to the forum Phillip. Since you're inclined to answer questions, I hope you'll answer the one I posted on this thread. It has to do with identifying an organization by the love they show.

Waiting to see who the bigger fire storm comes from: religious people or liberals.

New to Halloween...What do YOU do?
by Bourne ini've never celebrated halloween (too bad none of you live around here - jacksonville fl), but for whatever reason, i have alot of good memories from the anticipation of the various holidays as a child (i'm originally from a state that actually had seasons), even though we as jw's did'nt participate.
i still remember being at friends' houses, seeing them apparently happy and found myself wishing that i could have something to look forward too that was fun and not just the memorial (such a solemn occasion).
i have swore to myself that when (and if) i ever have children that i will celebrate them (the holidays + birthdays) as would want them to have some of the memories that i was denied.. am i making too much of this?.

bluecanary, are you going to dress up this year?
Yeah, I've got a gypsy costume for a Ren Fest I never made it to. Last year I was a butterfly/fairy type thing:

To understand the Bible, must we "Read between the lines?"
by garyneal inthis post goes out to any active jehovah's witnesses who are either actively engaged in or simply lurking the topics on this web site.
my wife is a jehovah's witness who is currently an unbaptized publisher hoping (as she stated as her goal) to become baptized.
needless to say, i am not and we go to different churches (hers is the kingdom hall and mine is a small community church).. anyway, this past sunday (september 7, 2009) one of the brothers gave a talk about how some people pick a church based on the fact that it seems to "feel good to them" rather than base it on whether or not they truly teach the bible.

Welcome to the forum!
Feel free to ask the JWs to show you the Scriptures where the Bible says these things without "reading between the lines":
- blood transfusions are unacceptable for Christians but certain blood fractions are not.
- oral sex with one's own spouse is inappropriate for Christians.
- Jesus Christ began ruling invisibly in 1914.
- Michael and Jesus are the same person.
- wedding customs based on pagan origins are acceptable, but birthday parties are not.
- Jesus inspected Jehovah's Witnesses in 1919 and chose them as the only true religion.
- when Jesus said, "This generation will by no means pass away" he was referring to the remnant of the 144,000 anointed ones alive on earth today.
Of course they cannot. So ask why you should accept their authority to read between the lines but not someone else's.
This thread has my talking points for JWs.

If you want more info on bethel, there are some life stories of people who served there on free minds.

This will be my first halloween celebration (I did wear a costume to work last year, but that was it). I'm going to have some friends over for food, drinks and a murder mystery game.
