In my opinion, this sort of thing encourages those who seek to lift themselves up in the congregation by "telling" on others. Small people who would inform on an elder or publisher just to get back or gain some status.
More importantly, the Society should practice what it preaches. Ray's COC brought them to account and their reaction was not one of repentance but rather they hardened their hearts and became even more harsh as a result. It's so easy for the Governing Body to point the righteous finger at the teens and publishers in the congregations requiring them to live up to Bible principles but they themselves, to use the current phrase, refuse to "man up" to what is right before Jehovah! Sure, tell a young man to rat on a friend for Jehovah's sake but keep the secret sins of the Governing Body, both present and former, in secret!
They truly are the Pharisees of the 21st century.

by brotherdan inso last night my wife brought the situation up again and kept telling me how sorry i'm going to be for what i'm doing to our family.
i kept a mild attitude and tried to reason with her.. she refused!.
i went about it in the way that sweet baby cheezits recommended.

It is hard to leave a religion that has meant so much or is comfortable and feels safe. Look at how long Ray Franz remained even though he witnessed all the problems for himself. To expect our family members to get up and leave just on our word or that of others is to expect them to do what even Ray could not do after he was put out of Bethel.
Our friends and family need time.

I keep my nose in reality. The world is and has always been a mix of good and bad. The earth with its mountains and beaches and so much beauty are real. People who do good things for others and even give their life for others are real. So are those who seek to gain riches on the backs of others or who deceive in order to gain power etc. They are all real and are the way things are and have always been.

I agree.
The best and most important "gift" is the gift of love; Love for God, love for his Son, love for our fellow and love for our beautiful home, the earth. Love acts. It helps. It opens doors. It provides physical and spiritual food. It sacrifices. It lifts the injured and corrects the injurers. It glorifies God. It bows before the Son who is the image of the Father. Love promotes brotherly love among all and does not seek to lord itself over others.

And all of these things you have done here on JWN? What proof do you have?
Suppose a new poster comes along on this forum and claims that he hears the Son of God and that only he, as the one who hears, knows how to pronounce the Son's name and that God's Son has told him you are wrong and you do not speak for God's Son. That would be an interesting thread would it not but in the end it would be all about you and him and not about the Christ.

Hello SA,
I marvel at this thread. As JWs the Society drummed into our heads that those taking the lead in the Watchtower were led by God. For me it was first Knorr and Fred Franz then came the "new" Governing Body, the ones who claimed to teach us the "truth" as they were guided by God.
Now, SA, you claim to be guided by God's Son, similar to the Watchtower's claim of being the FDS. You write your messages from the Son of God on a discussion board they wrote theirs in magazine articles. You say, "Which, please forgive me for saying this, causes ME to have to QUESTION your profession of HAVING such an anointing!", the Watchtower for many years also wrote that those who were claiming to be of anointed but did not fit into the Watchtower's view of the anointed were likey very mistaken in their belief.
Have you become the new FDS? You will likely say, no, but in word you are claiming such. The problem of course is that neither the GB nor you can prove your anointing and appointment as Paul or Peter and the other early disciples were able to do. Taking the word of the Governing Body was a mistake. How can taking your word be any different?
We must follow God only, his Son only and our conscience only. Not man's and not yours.
I say this with respect, with no malice, only love for a fellow traveler in Christ.

We have to think for ourselves. Just as we learned it was lunacy to follow the Governing Body in all things, including blood, it is also a mistake to believe that blood transfusions are without risk. We must read and read and then read again before ever again following what others say whether JWs or doctors or anyone else. Medicine changes.
