  After seeing Sparlock movie

  today i had some time to see the sparlock movie.. first at all i want to thank my jw parents for giving me a free youth within the jw belief.

  i was gifted with a great fantasy.

  i played daily characters like tank general (on my bike), secret service employee (behind the couch), the family wizard (with tricks) and soldier... my parents knew it, and loved it.. this dvd is not representative of all jw family's!.

  @ all: in the ' 70 Gorby was not allowed to see magical TV series. ((:

  Later on my father became an advisor of local politicians. He stayed JW, stepped down as elder and became MS. He still is.

  @ therevieler: my parents are 2 nd and 3 th generation JW. My father was elder, secretary of the congregation. Like many JW's in the Netherlands, they are liberal. They say "look at the good things of the organisation and ignore the bad things". My father told me last year "don't be so difficult. There are peope who collecting stamps, and there are people who are members of JW. Take it easy".

  My father says also "It's a way of living".

  Special talk

  because gorby has attended the memorial, he and his wife decide that one meeting a week was more then enough.. the rest of the family has attended the meeting this morning, including the special statement about the use of internet for marketing reasons instead of the magazines.. later on the day, we visited the family for a good cup of coffee.

  nobody told us about the special statement!

  and nobody asked us why we did not attend the special talk this day.. .

  Visiting the memorial

  i parked my 12 years old car in the lot between the new mercedes and volvo suv of two local elders.

  i walked with my 2 kids and wife to the entrance of the hall.

  one of the elders was assigned with the duty of a warm welcome for those who need it.

  Although Gorby is a (not so) regular visitor of the kingdom hall, he was welcomed like a newcomer when he entered the building!

  I parked my 12 years old car in the lot between the new Mercedes and Volvo SUV of two local elders. I walked with my 2 kids and wife to the entrance of the hall.

  One of the elders was assigned with the duty of a warm welcome for those who need it. So, I entered the building and he told me loud and encredibly close:

  "Good evening, nice to see you here!". It felt like "ashole where have you been the last month's", with a big untrue smile. So I told him louder and a lot of

  encredibly closer: " NICE TO SEE YOU HERE ALSO!". Like bitten by a snake, he was gone in a second".

  During the evening, I had a lot of smiles at my face, thinking about this funny moment.

  Attendance was not so good this year

  NEW YORK (WABC) -- In the next few years, Brooklyn could see one of the largest turnovers in real estate, all thanks to one seller. The Jehovah's Witnesses are planning to sell all 34 of its buildings as they move their operations upstate.

  The scope of the church's holdings is massive, 3.2 million square feet, more than the Empire State Building. It's being valued at more than $1 billion, and once the properties are turned over to private owners, the tax dollars will be flowing.

  The Watchtower buildings in DUMBO and Brooklyn Heights have been a fixture since 1909, when the Jehovah's Witnesses began buying up properties, one by one. Church members have quietly lived and worked there for decades. But now, the church has outgrown its facilities and is planning to move upstate, leaving prime real estate up for grabs.

Brooklyn Heights is a wonderful place to be. And we enjoy the neighborhood. We enjoy our neighbors. New York is a vibrant city. I personally have very mixed emotions about leaving the city. I really love it here."

  Part of the appeal of the buildings, aside from location, is their condition. The Jehovah's are known for their meticulous upkeep. The Leverich Towers Hotel was built in 1928, and it has been fully restored and used as apartments. The view from the roof is spectacular, and the possibilities are endless. Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz knows what he would like to see.

  "I, for one, hope that in the high-tech area, that the emphasis will be on alternative energy, as well as medical," he said. "Meaning scientific applications in terms of diseases. That's what I'm hoping we'll develop here."

  The transition will take years to complete, with construction not yet underway for the Watchtower's new headquarters in Warwick. But once the buildings are sold, it could bring City Hall millions of dollars a year in tax revenue.

  The move upstate has been under consideration for some time. Seven years ago, they moved their printing operations up to Wallkill to print Awake and Watchtower. The two monthly publications have a combined circulation of 70 million.
