It would serve their entire religion better to view blood transfusions as venial sins rather than mortal sins.
The Courts are binding them to not place excommunication over the heads of their followers in medical issues.

Is there such a thing as dispensation for blood use?
by bythesea ini was talking with "worldly" friends the other day and they mentioned a jw friend they knew who recently had some serious surgery and received a special dispensation so that she could have blood for this surgery.
that's what they claim she told my friends....the husband is an elder, and it was suggested that through his contacts that he was able to get this for her.
i expressed disbelief and have asked my friends to see if they can get more info about her "dispensation" and whether she actually recv'd whole blood or fractions during surgery.

its over a month now and still they havent made any contact.
it doesnt really matter since they are all jws on my moms side but dads side of the family are catholic so they were all there to give the strength needed to cope.

The Society really missed/messed up the whole social connection that should be part of any religious community.
Nixing congregation picnics, control of weddings and parties, demonizing social outings in general or a least always putting them in a bad light like everyone was going to go out and build a golden calf. Well the leadership got the religion they wanted.

what apostate info was around in early 80's?
by highdose ina jw i know i very fond of telling people that he read apostate stuff in the early 80's and that when he later came into the turth it was proved to him that it was all lies ( the apostate info that is).
i've always wondered what it was he read, and how it could have been refuted by the dubs?.
and no, i've got no way of asking him, not without landing myself in hot water.

What is the JW theology?

: theos).. jws keep rabbiting on ad nauseum about the trinity teaching being "irrational", "impossible to understand", etc.. i do not want this thread to be about the trinitarian doctrine.. i want to be given an explanation of what a jw believes.
i have seen so many arrows and spears thrown by jws, i want to know exactly what they are defending.. i want to see an explanation of "god" that is rational and can be understood.. doug.

Its important to remember that Rutherford and Franz came from a Calvinistic background of Limited Atonement so their christology was going to be stilted. Add to that their affiliation with Russell and his Dispensationalist views and you have a real mess to begin with.
I thought at one point in the mid 90's there might have been a slight chance of reform but the articles written in the last few years show an entrenchment into the old ideas of Limited Atonment again.

by littlebuddy inmy jw elder friend said to me that the nwt is the best translation of the bible and that scholars have said as much.

The Committee had access to some fine libraries like the American Bible Society. Mostly they cross compared what they were doing with previous works like the American Standard, Rotherham, and Smith/Goodspeed and made a conscious decision to go against the grain of the KJV.
Some of todays modern "Loose translations" read smoother.
