Like the Catholics, Protestants, and Fundamentalists the Society has its own set of superstitions. They all should have 'Beware Cult' labels.

Give a brief description of what is the Watchtower Society and the JWS organization
by The Almighty Homer inif you were to give a brief description of what you know already of this organization, how would you define it yourself ?.
.
my definition would be a an exploitive and manipulating free wheeling religious publishing company.. i might add none of this would have been at all possible without the freedom of religion policy of the united states.. it very well started out that way and continues to this very day.. intellectually dishonest but very commercial in its intension.. .

Another Trinity Thread
by AwSnap incan you clarify something for me please?
the jw's teach that most (to them, that means all) religions teach the trinity as being that god almighty, jesus, and the holy spirit are literally one, meaning the exact same 'person', none higher than the other, inseparable, the exact same thing.
they mainly use catholics and baptists, in my experience.

Cliques and Fraternities struggling for power and trying to squash all free thought and dissent or questions.
Sound familiar.
Monophysitism, Nestorianism, Nonconsubstantiality....oh they just had to be the "H" word, heretic. God forbid anyone saw holes in their theories.

It was always the shortcoming of the Bishops, and perhaps in their time the limits and prejudices they possesed, to come up with this theory/theology.

As A JW Did You Care About Old JW History, Old Light & Flip Flops?
by minimus ini used to look at the old stuff as info that the witnesses were progressively understanding.
i didn't hold it against the witnesses if they changed understandings because after all the 'light was getting brighter and brighter".. as time went on, it did start effecting me.
there were too many things i'd let slide by when i was younger that i just couldn't ignore any longer.

The Revisionist history was an issue. Knowing the actual history of the Bible Students and the Witnesses (having lived it) allowed me the mental exist.

Among the Most Destructive of JW Core Ideas!
by AK - Jeff in'waiting for the real life'.
they exploit the biblical text to mean in essence that jw's 'put off' normal human life until the new world.. i never thought of the damage that does until i began to review my life history.
i have discovered that i am 35 years behind.

They never quite grasped venial sins and mortal sins, everything was placed on one plane. To convince someone they should die rather than take a blood transfusion, when it is a forgiveable sin (as applied in their scheme), showed an uneducated theology.

Aw,
The problem lies twofold, Witnesses are taught a version that is more akin to the Oneness teaching- see the Trinity Brochure. Second many mainstream Church goers describe their belief in a quasi Oneness fashion. Actually if a Witness studied the language and nuances of the Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox views they would find a lot in common.

Carla, it was interesting going to the Sunday session of the Convention this past summer. Low energy talks but afterwards the International crowd began doing the Wave, over and over, it went around the Stadium 12 15 times. The camaraderie had a life of its own. People just have the same basic needs.
