let me start out by saying that i would like nothing better than to see the society totally disappear one day and lose its controlling grip upon its members.
this forum is probably one of the most frequented sites for doubting jws and lurkers so i think it is important to be as skilled at combating the witnesses as is possible.
not every argument made against someone or something is a good one.

This board is good for JW info but imo it's primary focus is on healing and making friends. People need to vent out the hurt and anger and this DB provides a place for that. Many exJWs have had a horrible time in the Org. and they need to get it out, but if they are making generalizing statements then it's important for others who feel differently to express their experiences and views. Truth is important, both personal and general.
Just my opinion.

you didn't come to that conclusion in an instant, did you?
you thought about it, deliberated and concluded: god exists!.
how did you get to that conclusion?.
Bradley,
How do you account for such things as viruses, parasites (charming critters perfectly "designed" to feed off other creatures), earthquakes, etc.?For as much harmony and beauty that there is in nature one can find chaos, disorder and suffering.
As far as we know all life on earth has a beginning and an end. That is the way it is right now. The dangers of viruses and earthquakes is nothing compared to the destructiveness of mankind. We are the most destructive and cruelest species on earth, yet the most intelligent. Quite a paradox.
The existence of purpose in much of the natural world logically leads to the conclusion that there is a purpose also to why things are the way they are. It, imo, can be compared to a man from a primitive society finding a modern house. He quickly learns the purpose of doorknobs and hinges, he understands the versatility of windows that open and shut and the purpose of the screens on the windows etc. He may turn the knob on the stove and figure out its purpose and he may even learn to understand the purpose of the refrigerator. What puzzles him though is what kind of man would put in every room several small holes that lead to a vast and dangerous energy source, all of them placed at a height that would easily entice very small children and if touched would kill them?
He can assume that the builder of the house loves killing little children or he can conclude that since it appears that most things in the house have a purpose the placing of the small holes at that height also must serve a purpose.
BTW -- A couple days ago you said you do not believe in the infallibility of the Bible. I take it then that you do not believe in the Judeo-Christian God. Are you a deist of sorts?
I believe in God, I have not adopted any labels.

I believe in God because the existence of a creator is the best and most logical explanation for our own existence.
The variety, the beauty, and the simplicity of the natural things we see around us cannot all be fully explained by any other possibility, imo. Symmetry abounds not only in design but in purpose and use.
Also, the great divide between mankind and the other species on earth is too vast to be fully explained by any other way than creation.
These are some of the reasons why I came to the conclusion that God exists.

may you all have peace!
when i was sent to speak to ones and they came back asking me why it is that we hear and they do not, i had taken it before my lord to ask him.
this is what he told me, their hearts are hard and they do not wish to hear what i tell them.
Hi Little Toe,
I don't object to what Aaron had to say only to his claim of speaking for God. I believe that insults God and us.

Hi Little Toe,
IW, where has he prophesied falsely?
The word prophesy also means: "to utter by or as if by divine inspiration."
Aaron claims to speak to us by God's spirit. He though has not proven himself to be a prophet of God and as a former JW I now require proof from anyone who claims to be inspired of God or who speaks for God.
Anyone who claims to speak for God and truly does, should be able to prove before all onlookers their claim. Just as the prophets in the Bible proved they had God's Spirit so also prophets today should be able to give proofs. Just a few walks on water, or a few risings of the dead, or a few predictions is all I ask.
No proof? No prophet!

i just heard that the norwegian watchtower apologist, rolf furuli, who esteems himself a biblical scholar of semetic languages, has completed the first of two volumes he plans to publish on the societys chronology, assyrian, babylonian, egyptian and persian chronology compared with the chronology of the bible.. title of this first volume is: persian chronology and the length of the babylonian exile of the jews.. i hear that although carl olof jonsson is not mentioned by name, or reference made to his book "gentile times reconsidered," it is nevertheless apparent that these volumes are an attempt to refute jonssons excellent study which has exposed the watchtowers 1914 date as total folly.. .
the book can be ordered now from furulis new personal website:.

Hi Marjorie,
So Daniel 1:1 tells us that Nebuchadnezzar laid siege to Jerusalem the year before he became King of Babylon. As we continue reading in Daniel 1, we find that he took captives, including Shadrach, Meshach, Abednego, and Daniel. This happened the year before Nebuchadnezzar became King of Babylon.
What year did Nebuchadnezzar become King of Babylon?
Thanks,
IW

Marjorie,
I would like to express my appreciation for your posts on this subject both in this thread and at least one other I have seen.
Well done!
Simplicity triumphs once again! :) I hope that your K.I.S.S. method helps some JWs to start questioning, my initial question on this thread reflected my pessimistic attitude regarding the power of truth over the power of religion. I still feel that as long as the Watchtower continues to promulgate it's chronology the majority of JWs will continue to believe it. You have done an excellent job of getting to the heart of the matter with such simplicity that anyone can understand directly, even those who have no interest or knowledge of chronology and maybe even some of the Governing Body? :) I hope so.
I am sure your posts on this subject will reach Bethel.
If all truths could be presented as such then for certain religion and many other institutions would change for the better. One of my favorite scriptures is the question posed by Pilate, "What is truth?" On this board there are those who are atheists, theists, agnostics, Christians, evolutionists, creationists etc. I look forward to the day when our personal truths will give way to the simple truths.
Your K.I.S.S. method shows the beauty and power of direct simplicity.
Thanks again,
IW
"do jws use toilet paper?
"are witnesses allowed to swim in the ocean?".
"can sisters wear the color red since it signifies harlotry?
Bradley,
A lot of the rest of the "bashing" that goes on here is unadulturated emotional nonsense -- hyped up and not very well thought out.
I believe this is a place to heal as well as to expose the Watchtower. Some of that "emotional nonsense" is the expression of deep hurt and anger that must find a release.
If you feel the board needs some meat (and I agree by the way that it does) perhaps you could give us a list of subjects or issues you feel need to be addressed. Or even start a thread on one of them.

Aaron,
Dearest IW,I am not a Roman.
And neither are you a prophet or hearer of God's voice. You are a charlatan.
