Norm,
Could you please tell me how long you were a Witness and how long ago you left? Also were you born in the Witness religion or did you come in as a study?
Thanks very much,
IslandWoman
the approach of ex-jehovah's witnesses towards those still witnesses has been debated since the problem first occurred.
personally i joined the ranks of ex-witnesses in 1988 and found myself more or less thrown into the fray appearing in media like newspapers, radio and tv.
one of the first things i noticed was the interest bestowed upon me from competing churches, particularly from the pentecostalism camp.

here is a photo of my stepfather and mom, at their wedding in november 1969. mom has one of him with hayden covington and milton henschel taken forever ago, but i like this one better.
mom looks good at 57, don't you think?
henry was 54, and you can see the twinkle in his eyes.
Mulan,
We have never "spoken" before, but I would like to say that I feel very much for your mother, for you, and your family at this time. My father died about ten years ago, death is not natural, it just should not be.
Thank you so much for the picture. This was a man who loved and was loved, he will live on.
Take care of yourself,
Linda

Bendrr,
Shout it Loud and Clear! Ain't that Always the Way!

This is a great article. I think the more they push their people the more visible the glass house of the Watchtower becomes.
Ironically, at least in the US, the pictures of JW families portrayed in the Watchtower and Awake are rarely of those in humble circumstances. Very nice houses, white furniture, good clothes, seem to be the norm, maybe they should give us an idea how these little fictional families in their magazines are paying for all this.
i am reposting this topic, that was posted on this board a couple of months ago.
i am posting this as my part of my message to the governing body, in support of silent lambs and barbara anderson.
i will also add further comments to this post shortly.. re: who are the governing body?a true story.
You Know,
You forgot to include these verses of Psalm 38, in your post.
"O Jehovah, do not in your indignation reprove me,
Nor in your rage correct me.
For your own arrows have sunk themselves deep into me,
And upon me your hand is come down.
There is no sound spot in my flesh because of your denunciation.
There is no peace in my bones on account of my sin.
For my own errors have passed over my head;
Like a heavy load they are too heavy for me.
My wounds have become stinky, they have festered,
Because of my foolishness."
" (watchtower p. 56, 1894) .
" (watchtower, p. 150, may 15, 1922) .
" (watchtower, jan. 1, 1924, p5) .
Brutus,
If the quotes you supplied all started with the words, "Once upon a time" they could easily be attributed to a third rate science fiction novel.
Sadly though many believed these men and followed them until their own death.
Why is that?

how do you prove from the bible that 1935 was the year that the selection to heaven stopped due to being filled?
The JW 1935 doctrine cannot be proven from the Bible because it is not IN the Bible. It is based not on the Bible but on the teachings of Watchtower leaders long dead.
The February 1, 1999 Watchtower, in a box entitled "No More Additions!" on page 19 gives us a fine example.
"At a Gilead graduation in 1970, Frederick Franz, then vice-president of the Watch Tower society, told the students of the possibility that they, who were all of the other sheep with earthly hopes, might baptize someone who might claim to be of the anointed remnant. Could this happen? Well, he explained that John the Baptist was of the other sheep, and baptized Jesus and some of the apostles. Then he went on to ask whether there still was a call for gathering in more of the remnant. 'No, no more additions!' he said. 'That call ended way back there in 1931-35! There are no more additions. Who, then, are the few newly associated ones who are partaking of the Memorial emblems? If they are of the remnant, they are replacements! They are, not additions to the ranks of the anointed, but replacements for those who may have fallen away.'"
The Watchtower leaders decided when the modern day "calling" started and when it ended. It's remindful of that old saying, "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away!"
BTW, it is interesting to note that the last five GB members that were added are all from the post 1935 generation of partakers. The question could be asked that since the Watchtower feels these men are "replacements" for fallen anointed it is then most fortunate that five of the anointed members did "fall" otherwise who would be there to help out the GB?
did you ever wonder about starting up in your own business?.
i spent years and years in sales management until one day i realised that i was still acting like a dub, my reps were my congregation, i was the presiding minister.
time to quit!.
Englishman,
Thanks so much for this good advice. There is much to be gained by self-sufficiency and a positive attitude.
Where I live there are some computer experts who are looking for work, there are others who have a college degree but have given up their jobs to work for the Post Office because it pays more!
Yes, there are many homeowners in need of repairs, and many skilled workmen who cannot keep up with the demand in their field.
Thanks for your encouraging words and good tips.

its amazing the extent these circulate in the wt world.
i am not so sure, but it develops a powerful folklore amongst jws....often with a moral at the end!
typically these circulate as experiences given in talks and are then adopted by the masses as truth.. for example, anyone hear the ul about the married couple where the wife had to have a routine blood check.
Comf,
Could you tell us what was the name of the Governing
Body member you heard say that he forgot his glasses?
Also, what city was that convention in and what year?

after a transatlantic discussion with my wife we have both reached the conclusion that we will not be posting to this board again.
though we see the board as serving a useful purpose for some, it does not at present suit the path that we have chosen to walk to extract ourselves from the wts.. this board is in an invaluable place for those of you who have recently left the wts and need a place to stretch your wings and share you hurt and pain.
but once we learn to fly, it seems important that we should leave the nest as quickly as possible, lest we become caught in a vacuum between the wts and real life.
pmf,
You are right on! BTW you are a classy guy!
