Why Jehovah's Witnesses Are Discouraged From Using the Internet
by AllTimeJeff inat a recent series of circuit assemblies, the governing body put out warnings on what in their view is the latest danger from satan, designed to break the faith of jehovah's witnesses everywhere.. facebook.. yes, thats right, apparantly, the gb is concerned because a lot of people are having "facebook sex".
they are meeting old friends who aren't jehovah's witnesses and getting it on with whomever would willingly sleep with them.
evidentally, the gb would like their flock to believe that when jw's get on facebook and other social networking sites, fornication happens.. now, this is news.

Excellent post!
It seems every excuse the GB uses for why they don't want their members to do this or that falls back to fornication. That's how they try to scare everyone into staying away from anything that would otherwise open their eyes to the real truth behind the organization. Too bad the majority of people fall for it.

Is regularly texting/phoning someone (not your partner) cheating?
by sacdfan inhello - can i ask you all for your opinions?.
if your partner (husband/wife, gf/bf etc) was phoning and texting someone approx 20 times per day, would you find it unacceptable?
for example, if your wife was texting/phoning another brother (also married) 20 to 30 times a day, would you get suspicious?

I don't think the acts of texting or phoning are cheating, but if the person texting is secretive about it and isn't willing to show the content of the texts then there is something else going on. I'm racking my brain tying to think of any logical reason that would justify this activity, but I can't come up with anything. Ffield service is not something that should be secretive and that would need so many texts and phone calls everyday.
There was a recent study, either in a WT or in the God's Love bible study book, that addressed the issue of a married man or woman spending too much time or talking too much with a member of the opposite sex, and how that would be inappropriate behavior even if the intentions were to console or encourage the other person. If a sister is having a hard time with something, she should not be calling an elder's home or texting him to speak with him about her personal matters. That is disrespectful to the wife and just makes the sister look like a floozy. The same applies to a brother.
Your BIL sounds like he's up to something fishy, and your sister needs to confront him about it. If she is too scared to do anything then she's going to be stuck in this mess until he ends up getting caught in some risky business by someone else, or he just up and leaves yoru sister one day for the other woman.
If anyone can get some concrete evidence of this then I would suggest doing that asap! Aren't there ways to get records of the content of text messages that are sent and received by your phone? You sister really just needs to get the nerve to grab his cell phone and read the text messages. Anything other than field service related material should be forwarded to her cell phone and the elder's cell phone!

Are these things still frowned upon/banned?.
by zzaphod inthinking back, there were a few things i was told then, that now seem rather odd and petty.
i was wondering if these thing are common in the wts or was it just that my girlfriend at the time was a pioneer, and her father was an elder.
(so perhap a bit more "enthusiastic" than others).

Regarding toasting and clinking glass, I seem to recall reading in an older WT that clinking glasses for a toast is ok as long as you don't lft your glass up when you do it, because that's what people did to toast to the Gods, or something weird like that.
So if you toasted and clinked your glass with someone else's but kept your glass going in a straight horizontal line in front of you it was ok, but if you raised your glass up even an inch it was bad!
Then again when I was first studying with the witnesses they told me it was the sound of the "clink" that was the bad part, because it the noise supposedly scared away evil spirits.
Whatever the reason, I think its ridiculous. Why do they make such a fuss over the most trivial everyday things?

I love my hubby unshaved. But there is that short period of time where it becomes super prickly that I could do without. Love the look, but it hurts my face when I kiss him
But yes the unshaven full on beard is great! I wish they would allow it at meetings. Jesus had a beard dang it!

Progressive Insurance Woman
by RubaDub incan't think of her name right now (she's a comedienne), but i think i have had about enough with the progressive insurance ads.
they seem to be everywhere, all the time.. i guess there is a ton of money to be made when every other commercial on tv seems to be an insurance company hawking its products (progressive, geico, etc, etc, etc).. rub a dub.

How Would You Deal With A Bully?
by minimus inrecently there have been news reports of teenagers killing themselves because they couldn't take being bullied any longer.. i hate bullies.
i would feel horrible if my grandkids ever got bullied.. have you ever put a bully in his or her place?.
-

I have never had to deal with a bully, but if my kids ever did I would tell them to beat the bully's ass to the ground! If they got sent to the principal's office I would walk in there, tell them "good job" and take them out for ice cream!

child molester reinstated
by EmptyInside ini'm rather sick inside right now.
i just found out the sicko that molested my friend, his daughters, grand-daughter, and others just got reinstated.
he's been disfellowshipped for awhile now.

Child molestation needs to be reported to the police and its scary and makes me angry that the WTS chooses to just slide it under the rug as if they even know how to properly handle such a situation. If that person was reported as he should have been, he would be registered as a sex offender so even if he was reinstated at a later time at least his name would be out there for everyone to know what he did and they could protect their children.
