The closest I got was the Edmonton Tornado in 1987. It was a scary evening. I took me hours to get to my sitters and my children, and I was frantic. Streets were flooded, traffic lights knocked out, and torrential rain blanketed the city. I heard about the tornado on someone's portable radio. The announcer told us a second twister was on it's way. My house was not near the devastation. All we lost were a few shingles. The phone system was overwhelmed. It took two days for my relatives to get through - to my sister in Red Deer.

Better late than never, huh? Here are some of my comments from last week's study. I started to prepare a rebuttal to the "six lines of evidence" that we are living in the last days, and I got bogged down. Maybe later. Let's just say the WTS is masquerading speculation as hard evidence. For example, can we definitively say who the King of the North is? Ollie North perhaps?
Yes, Blondie, Juan is very poor illustration for keeping awake through the night. The WT moral?
A sleeping man cannot guard his possessions . Is the WTS saying if the man stayed awake night after night, every night, he could have kept his possessions safe? It is obvious why that would not work. The man would eventually drop from exhaustion or start hallucinating. In either case, he would be in no shape to guard his treasures.Or, perhaps, they are suggesting he could have safeguarded his treasures if he knew precisely which night the thief was coming. The WTS has claimed since about, 1847, that they knew the precise day of His coming. The dates are fuzzier these days, but it is very soon now. Again, trying to maintain a constant state of alertness to protect our treasures does not work over the long haul.
As a young Christian, I often puzzled over this scripture.
When the strong man fully armed guardeth his own court, his goods are in peace: but when a stronger than he shall come upon him, and overcome him, he taketh from him his whole armor wherein he trusted, and divideth his spoils. Luke 11:21, 22 ASV
Jesus said this smack in the middle of his demon casting sermon. As there is plenty of mental illness in my family, I am interested in what Jesus had to say about it. I have interpreted this scripture to mean that no man is completely secure against mental attack. Every man has a particular vulnerability depending on the "strong man at the door", the strength of his own mental defences. What Jesus hints here, is that He is the ultimate strong man, allowing even congenitally weak people to rise above their own inability. We want that ultimate "strong man" defending us.
Perhaps Juan would have slept better if he had a really big strong man guarding his family and his treasures, instead of relying on his own strength.
Also, Juan’s hiding place under the bed was not very secure. Does the bible say anything about where our treasures are to be kept? Why, yes, it does dear readers, yes it does.
Give what property you have in exchange for money, and give the money to the poor; make for yourselves money-bags which will not get old, wealth stored up in heaven which will be yours for ever, where thieves will not come nor worms put it to destruction. (Luke 12:33 BBE)
Heaven is a secure storage place. Building riches in to our lives and relationships is secure. The richness of our life and who we become cannot be stolen by any petty thief or petty tyrant. How is this to work for the "other sheep", I wonder? Will the Anointed keep your treasures for safekeeping, and send them to earth in trust, perhaps?
What did Jesus have in mind when he asked us to be alert? Did He mean for us to prop our eyes open until we drop from exhaustion? Out of curiosity, I studied all the "take heed" (prosecho) scriptures. I found an interesting pattern, that I will share later.

Isaiah's Prophecy- Light for all Mankind??
by joe_from_kokomo ini don't know if anyone else has posted this yet, but i must say, that the isaiah's prophecy books are the most boring drivel i have ever had to endure.
i don't know which member of the writing department or the gb wrote this 2 part set, but i have to say that it is super-duper-dull beyond words.
perhaps the author suffers from alzheimers and forgot that he wrote the same thing again and again and again... .

Oh, Joe_From_Kokomo, you are so right about snoozeville. One verse at a time. Quoted. Followed by a rephrasing of the same verse. Guiding the sheep to the obvious conclusion that all the good stuff was written for the FDS and the Anointed (and, of course, the Great Crowd may partake in reflected glory as well. Afterthought). And all the bad stuff written for unrepentant Isreal and Babylon the Great (read Christendom's Churches). This last week really took the cake. They quoted a verse from the same book. All we had to do is re-read what we studied already.
I have found a sure fire way to liven up study time. When my honey's brow furrows, I look up the reference in my New Living Translation Life Application Study Bible. Ironic, really, how often he copies down the NLT comment. From Christendom. Babylon the Great. The Great Whore. Full of irredemable error. Slated for DESTRUCTION. Funny.

Six million people mislead?
by ikhandi ini have done a little research since joining this board and honestly believe that jehovahs witnesses fit in the cult category.
however what i don't understand if this is not the so called true religion as most of you have expressed how do you figure six million were mislead into believing it is the only true religion?
i mean this is not like the heaven's gate cult or the infamous jonestown cult who had very little followers in comparison with jehovahs witnesses.

Six million people follow a funky religion who think they are exclusive holders of the Truth. A hundred people on this planet cling to the belief that the world is flat. Funny world, or funny humanity?

Reminds me of a story of a stir-crazy trapper holed up in his cabin through the winter. He had built his cabin a couple of feet off the ground, thinking he would keep his toes warm and toasty that way. Unfortunately, all the little creatures of the neigbourhood also found his crawl space warm and toasty. He spent the winter listening to the screeches and howls and occasional malodourous calling card, as porcupine and skunk and weasel and rabbit squabbled over the space. In February he lost it, and burst from his cabin in a rage. He saw porcupine in a tree, and decided to take out his revenge on that defenseless creature. He doused it with gasoline, and set it alight.
Alas. The panicked animal ran to the only haven it knew. Under the trapper's cabin.
One toasted cabin.

Okay, here is my problem...
by christopherceo in...with my beliefs: what is our ultimate goal in serving god?

what IS our ultimate goal in serving God?
What is God's ultimate goal in creating us? So that He can give us lots of goodies? I think He got lonely and decided to create some companions. I think He eagerly desires a close relationship with each one of us. I leave the ultimate reward up to Him, while enjoying my relationship with Him now.
Imagine a father who has been away on a long business trip. He misses his children terribly. He picks up a few treats, as is his habit, in the airline gift shop. He arrives home, late. One child runs in to his arms "Dada Dada Dada!" She covers his face with smeary jammy kisses. Soon his jacket is a rumpled mess. His older child hangs back, darting resentful looks at his rambunctious sister. "I want you to know, father, I have been very, very good while you were gone. I completed all my homework on time, and have not stinted on any of my chores." He stares at his feet, shifting uneasily on the linoleum. "I was wondering, father, what you have brought for me?"
If you were this father, what would you say? What would do?

How about each other? Think about it. What kind of person do you have to be to reach the top of this organization? A Company Man. That means being very good at toeing the company line without letting your true feelings be known. A master dissembler may convince himself that if he just holds out 'till he gets to a position to make changes, he can make some serious reforms.
Only to find out that there is no top job. Everything is by committee and consensus. The majority of Yes Men always win. Nothing changes. I think the guys at the top fears that the guy next to him will find out what he is really thinking.
