My value speech need your input
by SheilaM inon the 9th i have my value speech for school i decided to do what i need to speak about and that is "why i believe the jehovah's witnesses are immoral"
i only have 5-7 minutes and i know if i talk to much about them hiding the pedophiles withint the organization i will cry (tried that in the car today, bawled like a baby) so i need three good points about why i figured 1. they lie 2. they are misogynistc etc.
any input would be great.

I would start with:
Is it immoral to put on a tie and a suit and knock on stranger's doors on Saturday mornings to foist literature on them that they never asked for or wanted? (connect with audience. This is what they know of the witnesses)
No. But I do consider it immoral to deliberately cause suffering the vulnerable or weak for personal gain. (state what the immorality is. I am just guessing, but I think a values speech should define why you hold such a value. A statement like this one helps clarify why you are outraged.)
You might ask, what connection do geeks in suits have with pain and suffering? (Yeah, then hit with a few examples. I agree with you that 5-7 minutes means you need to condense a lot. Instead of trying to hit the whole mess, pick only a couple of examples but cover them well. My personal outrages - the shunning policy that wrenches families apart and does serious psychological harm to the rejected. This policy in turn removes free will from its members, since any conscientious objection to established policy results in shunning. This has led to all kinds of cruelties, such as children dying from withheld of blood transfusions, the turning away of a mother's natural affections for her child, suicides, shunning of abused children that dared to speak up, etc., etc. )
...and what is the personal gain? To maintain the spotless image of the society. Shame, shame.

Did you fear the elders more than God?
by JH indid you fear the elders more than god?.
i think that the members of the congregation were afraid of being caught by the elders if they done something wrong.
but on the other hand they felt close to god and asked forgiveness if they done something wrong.. i think that there was an exagerated fear of the elders, as if they were equal to god.. what do you think, in a way, did you fear the elders more than god?.

JH, you have just got to stop doing that! I loved your original comments! I am a never JW, but as an outsider looking in, it looks like the elders are feared far more. Hence the emphasis on external cleanliness (which man can see). Can anyone spell Far-I-See?

by wovy infirst post on here and just a basic inquiry before i get in to the meat of my problem.

" i am not a witness and wonder what i have gotten myself into.

I say ditto to what everyone said already. I guess you have one thing in your favour, if you can call it that, is that this is an elder’s daughter. The normal rules do not apply. My best shot at your questions...
If she decided she wanted to be with me, like tell her family that we haven’t been dating but she still has feelings and I am “the one”, what is
a) the probable scenario,
She will get all the “unequally yoked” scriptures again. She will be told that marrying outside the faith will separate her from Jehovah. Jehovah will not hear her prayers. She will die at Armageddon. You see, in the WT faith there IS NO SUCH THING as casual dating. If she wants to see you, you have to be considered a marriageable partner. But you are not. You are part of the evil, wicked world. She will continue to seesaw between natural desire and fear of death. She will continue to keep you and the rest of her life separate, living the schizophrenic life as she tries to have her cake and eat it too. You will either get fed up with this compromised life and move on, or continue to have your heart dangled about on a bit of string.
b)best case scenario,
She bites the bullet and chooses death to be with you. Say nothing to the family. Quick, elope. Come back married. She will go to a Judicial Committee and cry her eyes out. In three months she is reinstated. You attend a few token meetings, and everybody just LOOVES you to death and invites you to a free bible study. You resist. She becomes a pariah (a privileged pariah) in the community, the woman with the “spiritually weak” husband. Look on the bright side. You have lots of time to pursue your own interests while she is at the meetings. You might even be able to sneak the kids away occasionally for some normalcy.
c) worst case scenario?
She will convince the family you will make a good witness, and they will campaign together to “convert” you. At least six months of study (I think), a baptism where you vow to be loyal to the society for life, five meetings a week, and you are in. Others may correct me, but I am pretty sure you have to put in some pioneering work before being married. Plan on distributing a LOT of literature. No touchee feelee until the wedding. Problem solved. For her. Misery for you. You already know this is a bunch of crock.
Q. Are all American women like that?
A. I am Canadian, but my guess is there are some nice ones out there. I think your problem is not in the picking, but in the leaving. Be choosier on the first date. Insist on meeting the significant people in their life early on. Make sure you are not following a destructive pattern.
...and P.S. STOP waving those hundred dollar bills around. They may be insignificant to you, but they may be attracting the wrong kind of "fly".

: much of the hebrew scriptures is a dispassionate account of israels history.
most of the hebrew scriptures is total bullshit written after-the-fact so that israel could make them look better in history than they actually were.

Question, Farkel; do you think that EVERYONE who leaves the WTS should believe like you,
Answer, Obviously, not. But I DO think that everyone who cares should have access to the information that is available. Those who wish to not deal with it will at least have had a chance to see it. This kind of information is not available to those who are still JWs unless they want to get in trouble by seeing it.
Response, Fair enough. I do appreciate that you provide a great deal of valuable information. You make people think. I like that about you.
Question, :...and should leave for the same reasons you did
Answer, People leave for the reasons people leave. I wonder if you even know what made me leave 33 years ago. Do you? Do you REALLY know?
Response, I do not know the reason you left. I do not presume to know. I chose to share information to help fence-sitting JW’s consider that they can leave the society and retain their faith in God. For some, that may be all it takes for them to take the leap (having falsely assumed there is no God on the “outside”). For some, the betrayal runs too deep, and they turn away from any belief in God or religion. I think I understand that.
Abbadon
, you presume too much about me. I can use parts of the bible as a guide for living, but I do not claim it is factual in all respects. I do not think I have to do that to use it as a moral guide. I think the JW’s get in to a great deal of trouble by trying to get the world to fit in to a literal interpretation of the bible. There are fossils in the Rockies. That is fact.Dansk
- does that mean the Jews were the first successful Publishers in history? By sheer volume and persistence, their literature wins. -

What do we put our faith in? Whatever we chose; whether it be our education, intellect, religion, sanity, or bible, if we make these God we will be disappointed. Because sooner or later this thing that we put all our hope in will prove imperfect.
To be true to myself and to grow, I must allow my preconceptions to be rocked. I have found that my security is not in having the perfect answer, but in the honest searching. As long as the bible is not treated as God, it can be a good foundation to live by. By dispassionate I was referring to some of the more bloody and foolish episodes in the bible. For example, Johnathan narrowly excaped being executed by his father because of a foolish vow. Just because those stories are recounted does not mean they should be followed blindly. See above.
If bible studies pain you, stay out of the Bible Study section.
