Hubby goes in to immediate cult mode when he hears of a death. He then graces me with his beliefs of the afterlife, and how everyone else is wrong. After he gets that off his chest, I put him on strict instructions that he is not to share any of this at the funeral!
To a True Believer (TM), such an intrusion makes perfect sense. It's life-saving information, after all.
How stupid, though. Leave people with their grief, and their hopes.
i was wondering just how many years have to pass before a bac(born again christian) or a jws before they say enough is enough with no rapture/armaggeddon.
i just feel sorry for them to just be waiting and waiting and waiting without any results.
bacs have been waiting for the rapture for 2000 years and sometimes i wonder is it a mental defect or is it they just are so "blinded" and cannot see they have been duped.
By the way, the people who stay trapped I don't think in any way are dumber, poorer, or in some way disadvantaged from the rest of us. After all, we were fooled once, too!

It is a cognitive loop and some will never break out. I suggest to rather ask what percentage will wake up? I suspect 20%.
it will obviously make a difference to how jw's obtain their literatrash, they will have to download and print it all themselves before long.. it will make a small difference to the dtod work, they will now refer even genuine questions and interest etc to the site, not taking the opportunity to "witness" on the initial call at all.
this has been happening already to a degree.. the difference i am mainly interested in is the capture of new suckers in to the borg.. we will be able to see when we get 2014's figures, sometime next year, what the rate of increase was over the last ten years.. phizzy the prophet predicts that the rate of increase over the next ten years will not be significantly up.

since i left the watchtower a couple of years ago, i started volunteering 3 hours a week at a wecare center.
it's like goodwill.
well, i've been there approximately 9 months, and yesterday i received a lovely thank you card from them.
I think another reason that the WTS "volunteer" work is so soul-destroying (beyond their failure to thank you for your service) is that it is a one-size-fits-all activity. It doesn't matter if you are an introvert, a nurturer, or a creative. One task for all. With no end in sight.

my girlfriend and i took the train through to edinburgh to soak in the atmosphere and catch a few free comedy shows at the fringe festival.. almost immediately i spotted them; jw.org witnesses.. how did i know it was them?.
well, the middle-aged, tall man wearing the suit, shirt and tie was a big clue.
that and the fact that he was holding the hand of a similarly tall, middle-aged woman, dressed in the jw uniform of long skirt, blouse and light summer jacket.
Hey, I had almost the exact experience this past weekend. It is the Heritage Days festival here in Edmonton, and I attended with a delightful ex-Witness. We saw the JW's when leaving the venue (very heavily attended, lots of foot traffic), four carts, four Witnesses standing like statues. We observed them for five minutes, and there was absolutely no engagement with the crowds passing. With one exception. A gentleman approached them to engage in a little conversation. The JW's backed off! We collared the gentleman afterwards to get his impression. He found it surprisingly off-putting, as he has talked to Witnesses before and considered them to be friendly, moral people. He was shocked to think that the Witnesses there that day were there only to "put in their hours".
My companion pointed out that if the proportion of vulnerable bystanders is about one in a thousand, there were possibly 200 potential converts in that crowd! You'll be happy to know they will be safe from their Witnesses and their aloof approach.

when i read about bethel experiences my mind go to the show locked up raw!.
why would someone subject themselves to this without commeting a crime.. the wife and i went to see bethel in broklyn a few years ago and it was unlike anything i expected.
very cold.. went the bosert hotel and was talking to a brother there and asked how long he had been there, he said 25 years...i asked how old he was.
I've been at the conventions where the announcement is given to sign up for Bethel. It's presented as a privelege, so for those who swallow the announcements with a further thought, it must be a privelege.
Just like Pioneering is presented as a privelege/status symbol.
