My condolences to you, Larry. Nothing can bring your daughter back, but take comfort that you fought like a Papa Bear to do everything you could for Bethany. It sounds like she was a strong, courageous, and intelligent girl - a credit to your parenting.
I am also angry that you were cut off from seeing your daughter to the bitter end.
This is how you were quoted by the Edmonton Journal today: "I feel sad, and angry, very angry," he said. "I didn't even get a chance to see her. I didn't even get a chance to say goodbye. I had a moral and legal right to see my children, especially my dying daughter, and they stopped me from doing that. I think what they have done is criminal."
to those who would "hate" the wtbts to the point of wishing great harm upon them... may you have peace!
and may you permit me to share with you a sound warning from my father, the god of abraham, isaac and jacob, the holy one of israel, by means of his son and my lord, jaheshua mischajah... through holy spirit:.
"take care in your anger.
Let those who love the Lord hate evil, for he guards the lives of his faithful ones and delivers them from the hand of the wicked. Psalm 97:10 NIV
If I do nothing while I watch evil being done, I am a silent participant. I care very much for 6 million deceived souls. The organization? It is a name only, not a living thing. I can hate it's structure and the terrible aftermath of it's policies. I am permitted to hate evil.
just been given this watchtower and found the 2nd study article very interesting..... is this the societies damage control to panorama and dateline?.
para 8 onwards says...... 8 satan tries to break our integrity through the sowing of doubts about what we have been taught.
today, as in the first century, apostates and others seek to destroy the faith of the guideless ones.
Tish - I think you are right. The October 1 article, "Jehovah Blesses and Protects Those Who Are Obedient" is along the same lines, but less blatant. I noted the following:
"That lesson is expecially important to Christians today, for Satan is making an all-out effort to prey on God's people (Revelation 12:9, 12, 17) His goal is to destroy our spirituality so that we lose Jehovah's favor and the prospect of everlasting life (I Peter 5:8). However, if we stay close to God and respond swiftly to the direction we receive through his Word and organization, we can be assured of his protective care."
This gives me a disheartening picture of mindless creatures running to the only security they have ever known - the organization - just as horses will run in to a burning barn in their confusion and fear. Jehovah does not require us to run mindlessly, in fear, in a time of crisis.
I looked up all references to obedience in the greek scriptures, and found that o bedience is closely connected to listening. You hear the truth, and chose to follow. Not once is there direction to obey an organization, elder, or the "faithful and discreet slave".
is it proper obedience to jehovah to humbly follow your anointed leader without question?
is initiative and bravery rewarded, when you run ahead of your anointed leadership?
(1 samuel 14:43-45, darby)
Is it proper obedience to Jehovah to humbly follow your anointed leader without question? Is initiative and bravery rewarded, when you run ahead of your anointed leadership? Did Jehovah bless Jonathan, even in his disobedience?
(1 Samuel 10:1, 6, 9, 25 11:15)
And Saul said to Jonathan, Tell me what thou hast done. And Jonathan told him and said, With the end of the staff which is in my hand I tasted a little honey , and behold, I must die! And Saul said, God do so to me and more also; thou shalt certainly die, Jonathan. And the people said to Saul, Shall Jonathan die, who has wrought this great salvation in Israel? Far be it! as Jehovah liveth, there shall not a hair of his head fall to the ground; for he has wrought with God this day. So the people delivered Jonathan, that he died not. (1 Samuel 14:43-45, Darby)
Saul was fully prepared to kill his son in his disobedience, as he had made a solemn oath before Jehovah. Who saved Jonathan?
(I prepared this little study as a counterpoint to the WT October 1 article, "Jehovah Blesses and Protects Those Who are Obedient" The article provides a one-sided argument for total obedience, and promises disastrous results for those who disobey. "..if we stay close to God (read WTS) and respond swiftly to his Word and organization (emphasis mine) we can be assured of his protective care.")
Net buddies: do you have some other bible examples where disobedience was the correct course? David's flight to the wilderness comes to mind. David did not want to stick around to have Saul cut his head off.

just had a good phone call with a friend i met on this board...got me to thinking about my life as a jw.
he's been "out" almost as long as i was "in.".
i was a reg pub at 6 years old, decided (yes, a very deliberate decision) to go to bethel when i was 8 years old, and was baptized at 10 years old (in 1962).
hahahaha ugg! Comparing a tomato to a slice of bread! That is very good. I think the ability to recognize your own emotional delay is a big step in self-awareness. It seems to me the organization suppresses that awareness big time. Speaking for myself, I find you a really cool person to hang with in chat. Perhaps you have more social skills than you are giving yourself credit for.
well, i just wanted to apologize to everyone on the board.
lately i have been very dramatic and over sensitive to some things that have been posted and said in chat.. i am going through alot as i am sure most if not everyone here is on a daily basis.
i am not trying to make excuses, but i wanted to say i will make sure to not jump to conclusions so quickly and be more aware of what i say and how i come across.
Jesika, you are a sweetheart.
..just checked...nope...not offended yet.
like stephanus, i am still retaring.
i was just thanking today about an old watchtower that had a germann proverb, "if you rest, you will rust.
what wisdom of the german proverb.
Was Jehovah "rusting" on the seventh day? Isn't rest also "good"?
my husband's sister is shunning us, mind you we have not been df'd...we just stopped attending meetings and my husband told his mom and sister he doesn't believe it is the truth.
that is not what irks me, that is to be expected i guess.
what just irks the heck out of me is that she sent my father in law over (he is not a witness) over our house with her car and asked my husband to change her oil and also put in a new water pump.
How about going the extra Christian mile and install a Smurf air freshener? Service with a smile.
a few weeks ago the pastor at our church gave the sermon from the book of esther.
this sparked some old wt memories.
i looked through my old bound volumes and found this gem of misguided scholarship from the writing department.
These guys were drinking for seven days! No way they were sober.
