Another Type of Unhappy "Believer"

there seemed to be one or two of these in every hall with which i was associated.

one of whom was handicapped in some way.

It happens amongst the Pentecostals, too. I knew a woman whose handicap had her bend at almost a 45 degree angle. She stooped forward wherever she went, two canes in hand. She really was a very sweet soul, and never failed to come to the front for prayer. She was totally convinced that one day God would heal her.

My esteem for her dropped, however, when I found out her condition was surgically fixable. In Canada, her insurance would easily cover it, so finances was not the problem. She just was afraid of doctors.

Hello, just thought I'd share my newbie story

since i am new on this forum, just thought i'd share my story.

(though it seems typical on here) born into jw's.

parent's nutty jw friends told them to raise children like nazi's, and not allow them to do anything, or associate with anyone other than jw kids.

the following is extracted from wt october 1, 2002 comfort in a troubled world, nov 24 study, cultivate obedience as the end draws near paragraphs 1, 2. the article goes on to explain how the faithful and discreet slave are ambassadors substituting for christ(para 4).

My new toy

i see lots of people posting threads about their new toys.

mostly male, trucks, motorcycles stuff like that.

this afternoon while making lattes for mulan and big red, my espresso machine became quite rude with me.

AAAH. I love a good cup of tea, and hate coffee. Makes me think I was born on the wrong side of Atlantic. It is a pathetic watching a secretary rummage through the back of a cabinet, looking for a dusty teabag. I have had teabags dunked in lukewarm water at greasy spoons. Now I just ask for water.

in the beginning, my father was a pioneer in the province of quebec and in south western ontario and i always asked why these places and he said it was because the need was great in these regions, im sure it still is!

question for parents

i have small children.

i was raised a witness, so i never celebrated holidays.

now, i don't go to meetings, don't agree that the watchtower is jehovahs sole channel of communication.

I will leave you alone with your decision on what you want to do with your Christmas. It might be a good idea for you and your wife to establish some family traditions, however, even if they are not associated with a specific holiday. The memories my children treasure are the ones that I established with some kind of family tradition. Those little events are like glue that kept our little family together and formed my children's identity. The vacation they remember the most vividly was a 5 day trip to a campground only hours from where we live. I remember it was cut short when I heard my mom was ill. My children warmly recall every detail of that holiday. I did not have a camera, so we collected brochures at every restaurant, museum, and pit stop along the way. We also picked up feathers and interesting rocks. And when we got home, we glued the whole mess on a large poster board. That poster was prominently displayed in the family room for years.

So what was so different from that holiday than all the others? That silly poster anchored their pleasant memories of that trip.

well, it may sound paradoxical, but in order for any claim to be true, it must be falsifiable.

Musky, I think you are on to something. God has given me ample reason to believe in Him. Looking in to the starry night sky, I can feel eternity. What would it take to not believe in Him? If I died and did not wake up.

Blondie, I just took a peek at the next two studies. Oppose the Devil, and then Jehovah Cares for You with a lovely picture of Job with all his scabs. All this negativity is wearing me down. How do you do it week after week? I might take a new approach and prepare some alternative studies; Love Wins and Bible Heroes the WT Avoids.

Thanks, Blondie. Your comments are so valuable. For a newcomer, the progression of ideas in WT articles seems reasonable, and the quotes and references provide a sense of authority. Although ultimately unfulfilling, the articles do suggest that the "deeper things of god" are to be discovered just around the corner. But the in-depth knowledge never arrives. Instead, once you are in, seemingly innocuous terms take on ominous tones. Blondie, you point out the ominous message in these seemingly innocuous articles, exposing the truth. You help us all see it.

Apostate - cut off from Witness family and friends. An apostate is slated for death.

Faithful and Discreet Slave - a group of imperfect men who have claimed exclusive access to Jehovahs will, exclusive interpreters of the Word of God, and exclusive providers of the Word to their people. They claim complete humility while demanding complete loyalty.

Fear Jehovah - Fear death.

Humble, Meek, Obedient, Submit - A Witness is to display these characteristics when submitting to the authority of the Slave. If he fails, see Apostate.

Imperfect - It was Adams imperfection that got him kicked out of Eden and slated for death. This word is also used to used as a blanket excuse for all errors made by the Slave. See True Christian.

Loyalty - Never say anything negative about the Watchtower Society or the Slave. See Humble.

Readjust Your Thinking - Believers are told how to think and feel. Any deviants are instructed to conform or be cut out. See Apostate.

Timely Spiritual Food - Pablum provided in printed form on the first and the fifteenth of the month. No matter how long a Witness waits, the meat never arrives.

True Christian - A Witness dances on the head of a pin, toiling to remain pure and acceptable to the local KH. One small slip, and it is Apostacy for them.

Worldly - Anything and anyone outside of the life of a Witness. Worldly leads to death.
