Yes, last week's warning about bad associations was memorable. I know because my honey came back all revved up, wanting to look up some WT materials referenced. I did. Most if it answers in Awake to questions sincere Young People wanted to know. Here is one of the references given: February 22, 1997 Awake page 13, "Being Wise in chosing your associates." Sorry, I don't have the text in front of me. The gist of it is, kids who follow those "bad associations" end up leaving the "Truth" and dying young from drug overdoses or worse. Kids who keep to the "good associations" at the hall can recite scripture backwards and forwards and don't die from drug overdoses.
I feel so edumacated now.

WTS Subtle-Speak
by onacruse inwts publications are riddled with subtle innuendos, subliminal messages, and bait & switch.
i just randomly grabbed the 4/1/03 issue of the watchtower, confident that i would find examples; i was not disappointed.
the article "exhibit 'all mildness toward all men' " discusses titus 3:1, 2 in four areas--in the family, in the ministry, in the congregation, and toward all men.

Ona, we are so lucky to have you here, with your unfailing love of words
errant unspiritual egotistical competitive envious fleshly worldlings
and sparkling wit. The quotes from that book are also very interesting. I especially liked,
It does not matter much whether such misleading directives are uttered in ignorance and error or with conscious intent to deceive, because the disappointments they cause are all similarly destructive of mutual trust among human beings.
So, as it's promises continue to fail, the WTS is eroding the trust it's faithful sheep have willingly handed over. No wonder former members find it hard to trust. I don't blame them one bit. -

Did I turn my back on Jehovah's True Organization?
by sandy ini was wondering as i have been lately; did i turn my back on god and am i wrong for turning my back on the organization?.
are there any of you out there that feel like you have a real personal relationship with god with or without religion in your life?
do you still call god jehovah?
-
jgnat
Sandy, it is wonderful watching you grow and question and learn on your own. Continue on the path you have started. I see God everywhere in the beauty of my world and the kindness of ordinary people.
And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: Act 2:17 ASV
@#$% a society that would tell you that apart from them, you cannot know Him. Oops. I can't believe I just swore. Don't tell, OK?

Something cool happened...
by flower ini had the surprise of my life yesterday when i got home from work and played the message on my machine.
it was one of my five brothers.
all of whom i havent spoken to but a handful of times over the years.

This is a wonderful good news story. I do hope your brother continues to build in what he started, and that he is fully restored to you. An island of sanity in a sea of nutters, sounds like.

I appreciate your insider comments, Blondie. Since it is part of the WT mindset to be constantly doubting one's own adequacy, it must be doubly hard on these "shining examples." They must be under extreme pressure to maintain their standing. I have read a few testimonies of these folk where they felt very uncomfortable being displayed at meeting after meeting, while at the same time they harboured doubts.

Maybe a book-burning is in the works. Do you think the value of Babylon the Great book on Ebay will go up once this comes to "light"?

did you ever notice that this site is less active when there are meetings, like tonight thursday?

I agree with Prisca that this discussion is getting an X-File paranoia flavour. One cannot sniff out trolls by checking what time of day they are logged in.
http://members.aol.com/intwg/trolls.htm
An Internet "troll" is a person who delights in sowing discord on the Internet. He (and it is usually he) tries to start arguments and upset people.
Think of a kid that delights in ringing doorbells and running off. That is a troll. JH, you seem to be describing a WT spy. I am sure we have those too, but they are not trolls. A WT spy does not even have to register as a user to read what goes on here. And I suspect that most WT spies are ordinary members of the congregation who already have the habit of turning in "weak ones" in to the local elders. Like the priceless sister who checked out Scully's kitchen garbage for bloody meat wrappers.

Has Anything New Happened?
by writerpen ini've been away for about a year.
was signing on when dateline story ran and left shortly thereafter.
have been wondering if any new doctrines or anything have occurred with the jws in the past year.
-
jgnat
Any changes in WT doctrines? They have gotten fuzzier. All blood but whole blood is OK. A nice video was released. The video features nice men in white lab coats explaining that refusing a blood transfusion is not an automatic death sentence. Disfellowshipped and Disassociated is the same thing. Those regular exam thingies are now oral instead of written. The WTS bought two new printing presses. There is a big push to encourage inactive ones back in to the fold. The internet is VERY bad. Apostates are even badder. Canadian XJW women should not be messed with. Not only does the pedophile issue get brought in to the spotlight AGAIN, but they have the gall to undertake a letter-writing campaign. Very very bad for the Watchtower.
