Please help....in a dilemma..
by crazyhorse inplease help with this: when i was in college, there was a lot of talk about university and how all who pursue that are wasting their time and all that.
even before going to uni, there was a lot of pressurr on me concerning my decision.
during that time, two elders sat with me for appointment as ms and asked me if i have freedom of speech in the org since i'm going to uni and i said no.

Since you choose to remain the pressure will always be there. Practice all the ways to say no as described above, in front of the mirror if need be. If they appoint you anyway, fail the assignment. Don't show. They will learn.

I'd like to take on "hope". Where oh where does the WTS get off on claiming that only Witnesses have hope? Not only that, but that everyone must keep up on study, meeting attendance, and field service to maintain that hope? These three tenets; study, attendance, and field service are the reality of the Watchtower society. I dare you to find these three in a single chapter in the bible.
There is nothing better for a man than taking meat and drink, and having delight in his work. This again I saw was from the hand of God - Ecclesiastes 2:24.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. 36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’ 37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink? 38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing? 39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ 40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, f you were doing it to me!’ - Matthew 25 (NLT)
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.… - Galatians 5
See? There is no need for meeting attendance, study, and field service. If you enjoy the work that you do, be generous to others, and cultivate goodness, God will recognize you. No laws, no rules, nobody to say you don't belong.
Sure, it's a shock that you just wasted a year of your life. Go give that new husband a hug from me and have a conversation about what kind of life the two of you are going to tackle. Will you travel? How many children? What is it that you really love to do?

Should some people actually be Witnesses?
by Apognophos init seems to me like certain people actually benefit from joining the religion.
primarily i'm thinking of ones with drug problems who are only able to quit because they are working towards baptism.
another example would be those who are always getting in fights or who have a big ego, and who learn to be pacifistic and humble as a witness.

What about the children of these lost souls? If the children are of fairly normal development, they should be allowed to break free and explore when they come of age. Without fear of losing their entire family.
I read the title, and my thoughts went to the people who patently do not fit in. Maybe they have a strong personality or a brash nature that never figures out that there is an unwritten code of behavior. Or perhaps they are single parents or are married to "unbelieving mates". They sit in the fringes, ignored by anyone who "matters" at the Kingdom Hall.

Your body is your PRIMARY TEACHER (a God-appointed channel is nowhere in the picture)
by Pinku inbalance is the natural state of your body and is maintained by moderation in your habits such as sleep, work, eating, entertainment and thinking.
(mathew7:12; 5:13-16; proverbs 25:16, 27; 1 cor 6:12; 8:9; philippians 4:5) your body sends signs of distress when you cross the limit.. this is true even in subtler areas too.
contrary to the popular notion that happiness or peace come from accumulating things, body teaches it comes from renunciation.

So this new teaching makes you deaf, eh?

Give me a reason not to go back
by chukky 594 inbeen out now for 10 yrs but life is a mess.
starting to think its because i have no spiritual compass.
why shouldn't i consider going back?.

I've never had the opportunity to have a do-over, for instance, repair all the social mistakes I made in high school. Time and life is one direction. I suggest rather than trying to recapture something that can't be had, work on how you can change the present.

The WTS is a one-size-fits-all shoe. There are alternatives. It is far less painful to find a better fit.

What did ants evolve from?
by Pinku inan ant's brain is very minuscule when compared to a chimpanzee, yet it is capable engineering!
(not to mention its ability to support 5,000 times their body weight before losing their heads.

Given enough time, scientists will decode the ant's communication network. In the meantime, the bible will remain the same.

Do you know your neighbors? Is it just me?
by neverendingjourney ini'm a single hispanic guy in my mid 30s living by myself in suburban america.
i own a home in the kind of neighborhood where you have to get hoa permission to do just about anything, including chopping down a tree.
i'm a white collar worker and lead a pretty boring life.

Probably the weirdest neighbourhood in our town is manufactured. There are rules about landscaping the front yard. The houses are more expensive simply by being there. As a consequence it's filled with fastidious people holding down two jobs each, only shop at Whole Foods, their children are leashed, and their chief concern is that someone on their street is going to mess up their version of paradise.
Ick.
