I think that what they would say to this if you could ever truly pin them down is that they hold the "one complete combinational set of truths" which make them the unique truth.
It is ironic to then realize that practically no single truth except the hatred of the immortal soul and hellfire has survived the Russell doctrines of circa 1914.
So by that standard, their real 1914 doctrinal combination compared today would not make even 99th on the list of wrongness from that old talk I had to give.

it almost strikes me as living on borrowed time, but then i remember that armageddon is a story, not a reality.

Third, as difficult as it might be to wrap one’s mind around, the Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that resurrected mankind, roughly 20 billion, are judged based on their deeds or conduct during the thousand year reign, not this life today. For all practical purposes they are starting all over again. They reason that because man is supposedly acquitted of sin at death and that he paid for his sin with the wages of death he cannot be put on judgment for evil deeds committed in this life, only the next life during the thousand year reign.
Exactly, Jonathan. Double Jeopardy in any conceivable court of law. Why? simply because the current JW split heaven/earth class doctrine cannot bring itself to say that accepting Christ can absolve all now and future sin for the "other class" like it unfairly does for the Annointed Bride class.

It all stems back to the practically anti-Christ (at least anti equal forgiveness) attitude coupled with the pro-Jehovah (pro judgement, destruction, and legalisms) almost to the degree of the Hellenistic Jewish sects.
For example - in the JW reality there are many more than just the annointed and other sheep:
Good Annointed: prior to 1935 or so, stayed faithful to Rutherford until death, automatically saved into heaven by Jesus.
Bad Annointed: real annointed at one time, but did not agree with some Society Teaching. Instant Death without Remorse.
Maybe Annointed: todays shadow "annointed" - probably OK but we don't really know for sure.
Ancient Annointed: Apostles, true followers in first or maybe second century - up until Apostacy set in.
Ancient Maybe Annointed: A stealth JW doctrine holds that there have ALWAYS been true christians from time of christ up to when Rutherford took over. We cannot say who they were, but they must have been annointed. One of the most difficult JW doctrines ever to explain rationally.
Armageddon Survivors: Must be selling magazines up till the big bang. Special privilege: you can survive still married if your mate survives. Special jeaporday - many of you are full well expected to turn apostate during the 1000 years and get whacked in the second death.
Armageddon Losers: Would not listen to the door to door message. Roasted alive with nuclear fire, no hope of coming back.
Armageddon Did Not Finish (DNFs): Sold mags faithfully during life before big A, get brought back a little earlier than the hordes to come. Sorry, marriages cancelled for you, though.
Armageddon Sliders: Broadly hinted that God would give some people in places like Red China a pass if no witness actually came to their door. Very big grey area here, but it gives the chance that Armageddon could come before every single man woman and child got thier chance at a Watchtower.
Pre-witness Dead: You get a free pass at the resurrection (and this includes enough people coming back to make today's ecological issues look like an indoor Orchid Greenhouse)...however, like the Armageddon Survivors, if you do not conform to the message during the 1000 years, second death awaits!
Titannic, Bismark, Hood, and other shipwreck victims down through the centuries...pretty much same thing as Armageddon sliders...except that you are for some unexplained reason mentioned in the bible. It is not explained what happens to Good Annointed who die at sea.
In conclusion - these class doctrines along with all the time of the end BS have created a spiders web of confusion and unfairness.

There used to be a really disgusting hour talk outline (back in the day - yes I drew it at least once for the hour talk trade arounds)...
It did this sort of in reverse: Listing about every known religion and then pointing out one or more (actually always more) things they believed which "proved" that "they did not have the truth". Coming the closest to "whole truth" at the end of the talk were IIRC the Christadelphians and the 7th day Adventists. But they too messed up on certain things...
Finally - tada!!! - ONLY JEHOVAHS WITNESSES HAD THE COMPLETE TRUTH!!!
What a surprise - I can only imagine (and did so at the time) what a real uninitiated member of the "public" would have thought about this public talk.
in the local paper there are 2 different towns that are dealing with possible police misconduct.
one situation involves thousands of dollars worth of pot stolen from the police locker where the drugs were supposed to be safe.
now the feds and state are involved in finding out who was responsible for the theft.
I personally don't know what in the world a Bachelor's Degree (mentioned several times here) is going to actually do to improve police ethics.
This is something that needs to be handled better by the police training academy itself. I think there is a shortage of qualified applicants and this causes a tendency to rush through people who should not have been allowed in. Plus dropouts can easily show up in Podunk City as a junior sheriff's deputy.

Many Watchtower teachings are practically Catholic/Mideaval in tone.
Remember the "sin-eaters"? These were low-caste persons who for a few coins would volunteer to take on a dying high-class persons sins.
They would put bread on the sinners chest, then the sin-eater would eat it and with a ceremony the priest would transfer the sin over onto the poor worthless oaf. What difference could it make? - he was worthless anyway!
Both this and the JW all sins cancelled at debt are disturbingly lawyer-like and fly in the face of the more progressive christianity of forgiveness through Christ. At least the Catholics gave up on this, along with "paying to have day by day sins absolved".

heard on the radio today,a loaner lexus crashed ,killing 4 on board,driver was an off duty cop,going 120+ into an intersection hit an other car,driver was on phone with 911 ,were he said no brakes[witnesses said fire was coming out of the wheels,like driver had brakes full on],prelim says dealer installed floormats jammed gas pedal on,,car had no ignition key just a pushbutton start,,sad,but my only thought is why didn't he put the shifter into nuetral ?.
most of the california posters seem to be believing that this is the real thing.
10/4 Undercover. I was actually put off by this from buying a newer Mercedes Benz - they do not even have a mechanical connection to the brake master cylinder from the pedal!!! Yup - totally by electrical servo "to better control your braking for you". Gives me the creeps. Many cars, of course, have an override or totally electrical throttle to avoid wheel spin. Like you say, what happens when this breaks (not if, WHEN)?
Of course, I am old-fashioned that way. Only just this past spring have I brought home a car with an automatic transmission for the first time in over 30 years. Under pressure, of course, from the ladyship...

The PDs are usually a reflection of their bosses. But I think many chiefs do not look into every situation. They let the captains take care of that. Basically, I believe cops should be respected (because they've got a gun and I don't).
And because the alternative is open anarchy. BTW, we have had extreme ups and downs in the quality of the police department in both Dallas and Fort Worth. It has largely depended on the integrity of the Chief at the time. Some may remember the cop who was accused (with quite a bit of evidence) of trying to take out a hit-man contract on Dallas Cowboy's wide receiver Michael Irvin? Took quite a bit of doing to get him off the force, too. Other locals might recall a certain black Chief who immediately demoted or fired every single high-ranking officer that he could find if they were white or hispanic. Wrecked the department morale for more than 2 years for everybody involved - both those promoted and those demoted alike.

Devil's advocate for a moment, Undercover. Technically, yes - cool brakes at a standstill can overcome the engine to hold you still (at least the front wheels - the backs have to spin or else no burnout...)
Over-heated brakes trying to pull down a heavy car under full power at 100+? Not an easy thing...remember that Top Gear episode where they drag raced a Mercedes 600 Pullman against a Rolls Royce Corniche? The Mercedes won, but ran right off the end of the airstrip with the brakes on fire after the car made about 110 mph. And the engine was of course not pulling.
We are running about 70/30 on this on my car club pages - most people being haunted by their first try at hauling down even a high end sports car from 130 or so.
And there is of course the eyewitness account that fire was coming from the brakes.
Having said - nothing can convince me that this was not a case of driver error.
