  for me, i think it was time and the realization of the idiocy of the beliefs and man made doctrines.

  OK, would it help to know that Marion (of course, was a PaperHanger...JW simple job and all...)

  He had absolutely the coolest car ever (and never knew it!) -

  1956 Black on Black Chevy Panel Delivery. It actually had bucket seats - except that there was only ONE bucket seat. Marion had removed the other so that he could store more and longer wallpaper rolls.

  3 on the floor it was. I used to be called to park it in the back when he came in a little late.

  Another thread will give more - Woods had to actually have a little too much beer last night because of the memory.

  If he (YHWH) is so all powerfull, and OMNISENIENT, then why in the hell would little old you need to MAKE PEADE WITH HIM???

  Seems like he would reach out (outside Brooklyn N.Y.) and make Peace With You??

  Really, I need to. Let me try to post up another thread tomorrow - need to think back so I can put the most interesting stuff into good order. For now - Marion was, BTW, sort of an absent minded professor in his own way. I remember one time he showed up in his house shoes at the School/Service meeting and had to go home and get his good ones as he had a part on the Service Meeting after the school. Another truly hilarious story was that we had to sit as elders and consider making my ex-JW-wifes older brother an MS. Ronny (dead now from AIDS, sadly) was obviously a homosexual. Everybody went around and around without saying the words - just JW stuff like: how much time does he have, is he sound in the truth, blah blah blah. Marion put a stop to it: he just says "Now Brothers - have you considered one simple thing? THAT BOY IS QUEER!" Pretty much the end of the story. You have to consider (to picture that scene) that Marion was a big man - maybe 6'2" or more, looked very much like the older Sean Connery, and had the gravel voice of a caucasian James Earl Jones.

  Tell me more about Dunlap(s).

  Marion used to be the Assistant Cong Servant when we started going in 1963 because my parents got mad at the Presbyterians/Methodists. Oklahoma City Oak Glen congregation. He was one of the few servants who actually took an interest in the young people - also he had a wide interest in literature, science, art, even cars etc...and watchtover stuff alone is just about the most boring thing ever to a young 13 year old captive. He also had a devastatingly dry sense of humor and a comprehensive and photographic memory of the bible itself - not so much on the watchtower like old Albert Shroeder prided himself with. In short, Marion was the "THINKING MANS ELDER" - which made it about as big a shock when he went apostate (to OKC) - about as bad as when Ray Franz challenged the guv body. Many years later, I went to him (I was presiding serving Elder in another cong at the time, now Marion was city overseer in Oklahoma City.) I was concerned over many illogical and even false teaching being spouted forth. Very quietly, a little by little, he told me about Ed. His hope at the time was that the Society was undergoing a fundamental change and that things would soon be better. I don't want this to get too long so maybe will start a thread to continue in another place.

  every time we enter a new year, i think about how i wasn't supposed to make it this long.

  i really believed we wouldn't live past the year 2000, and armageddon would change everything.

  it almost strikes me as living on borrowed time, but then i remember that armageddon is a story, not a reality.

  I had the great privilege of being a close friend of Marion Dunlap (Ed Dunlap of the Ray Franz book's younger brother) - from the 1960s all the way to leaving in the 1980s.

  But the doubt had already started some years earlier after a careful research into why the JWs put Jehovah all over through the New Testament.

  Forget 1975 then (for the moment) if AE is so proud it never happened.

  Can anybody deny 1914? And the "generation that would never die"?

  BTW, don't I recall some published material on 1925 as well? Or is an early 1920s WT now apostate material?
