Did anyone see the History Channel episode on the Witches Hammer?

this was a late medieval book printed not long after the gutenberg process became available.

it is a treatise on how to discover, question by torture, and execute witches.. it is thought that several thousand were printed over the years (maybe second only to the bible in distribution in its day) - and that this was in large part responsible for the witch hunts in europe.

the final example here in the americas - the salem witch trials.. it made me think about the jw propensity (and secret love of) all things "demonic".

They left it open ended so as to not belittle anyone's faith or beliefs that the Ark may have existed. It was an hour of "what may have happened" with evidences against the possibility of a global flood or water canopies or a boat strong enough to withstand the forces and a year at set, but then the last few minutes was how it still had importance as a symbol of faith. WTF Is this a documentary or a Tennessee High School production?

I saw that too and it was extemely weak-minded. It did at least make a pretty good point about how impossible it would have been for that ancient civilization to have created what would have been the worlds largest wooden seaworthy vessel.

But all in all - we have a worldwide flood debunking thread here about once a month or so that provides more and better information.

recently i have looked at youtube on interesting topics.

i wrote also to all 129 bethel-homes around the world and suggested them to search on youtube on illuminati, freemasons, 666, new world order, fema coffins, fema concentration camps, rfid chip, rockefeller, antichrist.. very interesting stuff!

i suggest you also to search on "the third temple" could soon to be built in jerusalem.

Is It Wrong To Pretend??

at the current time, my wife and i are just trying to fade away in order to keep family ties on my side.

last night my wife said that she feels bad about being affiliated with the witnesses at all.

i too feel bad about it.... i don't want to be responsible for misleading people.. i told her that in order to keep communication between myself and my family open, i can justify going to meetings.

My original post was in answer to the question "is it okay to pretend..." and I still say yes. You don't owe the WTS anything. If you have to lie and cheat in order to gain some freedom and sanity then yes, lie and cheat your way out of that cult. But I guess it can be asked, "are you pretending in order to fake them out, or fake yourself out?" If you're trying to fake yourself out, then you will be tormented and disappointed....not to mention never really free.

Undercover is right about not owing the WTS anything. Also about pretending temporarily.

Usually people who awaken from JW deception are very sensitive about being deceptive themselves - we just want to wash our hands of the lies and deceipts and be open and truthful. The JW system of things does not really accept that kind of honesty, so usually it is best to be pretty circumspect about what we say and do when family is still in it.

In the long run though, only a very small fraction of us have been able to pretend a belief in JW stuff when we do not believe it for any length of time...it is simply too ridiculous for an honest and intelligent person to do.

hmm...sounds interesting. I will need to see if I can watch that online. Currently I am in love with How the Earth Was Made....I never thought geology could be so exciting.

The How the Earth Was Made series is also excellent. If anything could make the JW literalists (flood, short time creation, etc.) take notice, this would be it. They also had an excellent discussion of the Roman cross as an execution device which should be educational to the JWs. I think History has an online source - but they do repeat their programming pretty often on the cable as well.

You may have to pay a heavy price, but there is no price too great for freedom.

And it might be worth mentioning, that if you feel the need to pretend, you do not really have true freedom. Pretending is action to compensate for the JWs intolerance of others.

That is also a mystery to me - has anybody ever heard a real active JW use this term "churchese"? I have stated before that I doubt he is really a current JW - more likely a peripheral player trying to raise contraversy here.

so, i just had to look it up on the wt library cd-rom.. the word "evidently" appears 1,439 times in the insight books alone.

that number is staggering considering that the two-volume set is supposed to be comprised of encyclopedic facts.
