  June 2010 Awake! more duplicity.....

  i was up in my mum's house the other night (she and my father are still active jws) and saw the june 2010 awake!.

  as i browsed through it i came to watching the world.

  as i read the article on the "baby mammoth" i noticed that there seemed to be some important information missing, as well as some good old watchtower selective quoting.. bear in mind that devout witnesses would never question the organisation or suspect that an article could be misleading them far less go and research the information to check it's authenticity.. the article mentions the age of the animal at time of death (3 to 4 months) and the fact that it was well preservedin the ice and that it's airways and digestive systems were clogged with silt.. right at the end of the article they say that the "scientists were lead to believe" the animal "must have drowned".

  And "unofficially" they still teach that all the animals got to different places on the earth because of land bridges or something wacky, which would explain why kangaroos are ONLY in australia.

  Yup, remember that one too. However, they did not think of the simple fact that land bridges do not explain why kangaroos and Koala Bears chose ONLY the land bridge to Australia and nowhere else...or the simple fact that the land bridges would have had to exist only 4,000 years ago by their own chronology.

  Remember too - they used to say that the animals on the ark were not really every species we have today, but sort of precursor super-species - maybe only one uber-cat to become lions, tigers, leapards, and such. One uber-elephant to become the african and indian types, and so on...which is of course dangerously close to unwittingly endorsing Darwinian "natural selection of the species".

  Well why not? They've got such an awesome track record at explaining how to earth was created, how old it is, when it will end....surely climatology and meteorology is no problem for them.

  I don't know if they still teach this, but it was a pretty big deal with them in the 1960s. I distinctly remember them saying that there were fossils of animals and trees in Antartica, for example - and that the tropical pre-flood whole earth was the reason.

  Didn't they "sort of" give up the 7,000 year creative days some years back? Of course, they didn't really say this in clear terms -

  Of course, if they want to say this Mammoth died in the flood it would still be only 4000 years or so old if you take the bible dates literally...and of course you would also have to explain how it ended up frozen in snow and ice. The young age is no problem if you simply choose to not believe in carbon dating, I guess.

  However - the bible says it was a flood, not an ice storm or a blizzard. The JWs used to teach that the earth was tropical from pole to pole because of the "water canopy" before the flood.

  People, please - did we leave the JW cult only to keep this silly medieval superstition?

  The evil men do is done by evil men themselves.

  PS - is it not fascinating the way the JW are just about the most fascinated with Satan and the Demons of any fringe religion? Natural, I guess, that people who leave it may hang on to vestiges of this fantasy, for a while, but really - shouldn't we eventually get free of it?

  can you be df'd for atheism?

  if you only tell the elders that you don't believe in god, and as a result will be decreasing your activity, will they reprove you and/or df you if you aren't repentant over time?

  pretend that you aren't telling them anything about your feelings regarding the organization or governing body.

  As with all DF issues, it all depends on the makup and attitude of the elders in charge of the case.

  I believe that it would technically fall under the charge of false belief or apostacy if they wanted to push it.

  On the other hand, if it was not widely known and you were not spreading it around, they might ignore it for a time on the grounds that you were just having some private doubts. This is IF (big IF) the local BOE was fairly liberal, and did not run into a circuit overseer who pushed them into taking action.

  I have always been partial to the Porsche 911 - have driven one since 1969. Still have my 1996 993 Targa which was one of the last air-cooled models.

  I also have a Ferrari Testarossa and a Rolls Royce, but would not be willing to give up the Porsche.

  if jws don't have the truth; if there is no paradise earth; if there is no end of this system; if death is all there is, then what hope do we have to look forward too?.

  I mentioned it before, but again now: Perhaps we are focusing too much on personal hope, and not enough on hope for the general future of humanity.

  There is much historical reason to hope for the future life and welfare of mankind for many generations. We are actually far better off than our ancestors were (and demonstrably better off than people of biblical times).
