never gave much thought to other opinions.
if the insight book said so, than it was factual.

Actually, I convinced myself that it was all BS by about 1979. Quit cold - Never read anything more about it or bothered with information on them (except I did get a copy of COC from Ed Dunlap in the early 80s) for 25 years. Did keep in touch with some others who left at the same time, but nothing particularly religious about it.
Came here as a kind of secondary experience in around 2005 or 2006 because I was helping a friend who was breaking out of Scientology (found the site by searching for cult awareness places) - and kind of stuck around to relate some of the old times from the 60s and 70s.

But I also think putting some blame on the place of worship for a pedophile using it to groom kids is also wrong.
It is absolutely NOT WRONG when the church has made an extraordinary effort to hide pedophilia in the past.

Time to go from Ministerial Servant to Elder
by garlic81 inwhat is the shortest timeframe you've seen for one to go from ministerial servant to an elder if he:.
is on good terms with all elders and the circuit overseer.gives the co a green handout to help out with his expenses on each visit.has the co over for a meal each visit.has phone number and email of co and communicates at least every other month - just to chat about how things are going, good service experiences, etc.
(as any other friend would.

I was an assistant congregation servant at only 21 (before elders in 1970) because I was pioneering where there were no servants.
When elders came to be I had moved back to the home congregation, and they busted me back to MS until I was 26 and they needed me again for a position in a new congregation. That was in 1975 and I was pretty much working out serious doubts by then - eventually resigned and left in 1979.

Do you know of ones who were mentally ill, that were labled as being demon posessed?

i'm not even talking mild bipolar.
i'm talking really messed up in the head, schizophrenic types, and bipolar withpsychotic features.
