i remember as a kid reading an article - not sure if watchtower or awake - which terrified the life out of me!
i remember thinking at the time "ok, this may be true, but i'm just a kid, i shouldn't be reading this!".
some of the details remain imprinted on my mind decades later.
Just in reference to the Mickeymouse quote - in general:
September 1st 1987 WT:
How could even the ordinary believing JW actually believe such superstitious nonsense as this? Didn't anybody in the writing department call out a strong and reasonable BS ALERT before they set the type on that junk?
I guess it really has been a long, long, time since I have read any of their drivel.

Asamaja Amelia, a middle-aged woman in Suriname, was 17 years old when she first became involved in divination, a form of spiritism. Since her predictions came true and inquirers benefited from her advice, she was highly esteemed in her community.
Rather ironic that her predictions actually came true, huh? Maybe the GB should have asked her to validate all the prophetic ideas they had...like, for instance all the ones that did not come true, and did not benefit anybody.
i mean screw proving that jws are not gods chosen people....i have beat my head bloody trying to prove that to wife, son, parent, friends....lol...which is why i do not have them anymore!
funny how if you do that...they take pride in how much closer to jehober and his org they are!!!!!arrggggghhh!!!!.
but if you can disprove the entire bible...and that is their basis for everything....well maybe that is the way to go..... unfortunately i cant get anyone to listen to me now for even 10 seconds!!!
By comparing the myths and fairy tales with modern scientific knowledge.
This proves it to you, to me, and to anyone willing to look at the available information objectively.
It will never prove anything to a die-hard fundamentalist, or to a JW.
They cannot rationally think in that way any more than a dog or a cat.
....for me that is..... i've had enough of being shunned by almost everyone on this board, just because i am different and i am not american or canadian!.
to whoever is in charge here, just "destroy" my membership from this forum.. no one takes me serious and no one believes anything i say here.. i have realised that once one becomes a jw, they remain so until their death, hence the shunning and discrimination that rules this board.. to those who understood my sense of humor here, i say goodbye to ya'll niggas.. i'll see you in hell!.
watch this space, maybe i'll come back in a different name and style(invisibly, just like jesus christ in 1914).. look out for signs of my presence.. agbm from africa, out!!!!!
I think, all in all, that I could accept him back - eventually - provided one thing:
GET RID OF THAT HORRIBLE AVATAR!!!
or, to your knowledge, did anyone ever make any inquiries of your local elders as to your "spiritual health" and suitability for courtship?.
how'd that work out for you?.
om.
I went on 2 or 3 dates with a JW girl who had recently moved into town. After the first date, an elder (a very bossy one) advised me that she was not a good person to be dating because - (get this) - she had been raped in her former city and had moved here to live down the experience.
She was pronounced technically innocent by her committee - but they still spread this around about her look good JW gossip-mongers.
Actually, I already knew the story and deliberately took her out because I felt sorry for her as no one else would have anything to do with her.
Took her out again a couple of times - it just didn't work out, but the elders had nothing to do with that.

Of course, the most inappropriate of all (to me) was the famous Awake with the pictures of children who died from not having taken a blood transfusion on the cover. They were proud that they caused the actual deaths of these kids.
Did it ever occur to anybody at Brooklyn HQ that all these kids were just as dead as the obviously fabricated story of the "demonized girl with a lion face?"

Does this mean that none of us are invited to the wedding?
(reposting this comment).
its because: they come on this board and see all kinds of xjws not all "speaking in agreement" and compare us with the organization and congregation, where they all "speak in agreement" and are all "unified", and all "fitly tied together in the same mind".
so, how can we have the truth if we are part of a free for all?
I have long suspected that many of the most stubborn "self proclaimed JWs" here are not really typical JWs in good standing. Many have stated clearly non-JW notions of doctrine or religious rules, or use distinctly non-JW typical language terms.
Possibly many of these are frustrated ex-JWs, weak JWs on the fringe, or otherwise disturbed people who come here to cause discord and vent frustration. Some have been suspected of actually having severe mental issues - one recent example was a certain "Alice".
I have yet to see one of these people who I could identify as a typical ordinary JW pioneer or elder similar to the ones I knew when in the organization - which may not be too surprising, as all of these "JW supporters" are actually violating a cardinal JW rule by even coming here.
i watched an interesting program last night on science channel called mysteries of the bible - this episode was about the lost gospels.. they include one by peter, another by mary magdelene, and one by judas.
the most interesting part of the show, to me, was how they debunked the notion (shared by the wtbts) that constantine's council was somehow inspired and picked out the correct four gospels by divine means.. the pictured constantine as a practically non-religious person except in the sense that he saw a centrally organized system of christianity as a source of political power for himself.
much was made of how he disliked the independent spirit of the gnostics, and therefore viewed mathew, mark, luke, and john as the least politically dangerous of the numerous gospel writings available in his time.. and, of course, again i was reminded of just how uncertain we really are about the writings preserved in the present-day new testament: they were written at least decades after their events took place, and were the result of verbal traditions told from one person to another.
It wasn't always the case of course, but as we know, that never stopped information from coming out.
Most of the extra-canon ancient writings we now have were physically discovered from the later 1800s on to today. Some references existed in other literature, but the conventional church of the ancient time did all they could to conceal or destroy them.
It is a great mystery what may have been permanently lost - much like what was lost in the destruction of the great libraries of Alexandria.
Roman Catholic Church in the one case - the Muslim conquerors in the other.
