Just off to the side of this subject - did the Watchtower invent that silly "cloud canopy thing" down to the point that up until the flood nobody ever even saw a clear blue sky, let alone a rainbow?
Or, did they just borrow it from some other fundie group?

Letter sufficient grounds for DFing?
by dozy ina question here mainly for ex-elders etc , though all input would be helpful.. a letter that i wrote some time ago confidentially to an elder regarding the usual issues about the gb etc has come into the hands of a couple of members of the congregation who are regarding it a prime facie evidence that i am an apostate.
though the letter isn't especially incriminating as such , it does flag up several mistakes that the wtbts has made.
the brother has described me as "verging on apostate.".

Whether or not they will use it depends upon how badly they want you disfellowshipped. That really is all it boils down to.
This is the ugly worm under the rock of all disfellowshippings. It all depends on whether the local elders (or maybe even the circuit O) want to get you.
It is all about human politics and emotions.

Weird "end of world" convention advert left in my door yesterday.
by JWoods init is a single 8.5 x 11 color page that opens with this drivel: how can you survive the end of the world?
--- you are warmly invited to come and listen to the answer.... there is a typical watchtower picture of zombie-like survivors coming out of a dark armageddon storm cloud with lightning and thunder, and walking into a spring field of sunshine and flowers.. on the back is quoted mark 13:37 - "keep on the watch".
(said near 2000 years ago, but continuing on) - four bulletins: stay awake as christian families / know that the end is near / imitate jesus' example of watchfulness / keep in expectation, watching for jehovah's day.. at the bottom is a generic invitation to mail in what is a little coupon for a bible study to the local branch office (no local contact information is given) with entries for such places as trinidad/tobago, ghana, nigeria, curacao, etc.

Right, Blondie, I forgot. Sex is the priviledge of those who pass through Armaggedon, wasn't it. If you had to be raised from the dead, you were celibate.
Of course, with the big A being pushed further and further into the future, almost everybody who was alive at the time this got thought up will have to be resurrected...with some new unspecified "generation" having the sex benefit.

Non-Existent First Century GB / Council Quotes from Old Publications?
by Ultimate Reality ini am looking for any references regarding the existence or (even better) the non-existence of a first century council / governing body in old watchtower publications.
it would most likely center on acts 14 and 15.. many of us have heard the fred franz recording about how there was no such body in the first century.
anybody have any pre-1970's quotes on this subject?.

Exactly the point, Blondie.
The "faithful and discreet slave" itself has had no consistent idea who the "faithful and discreet slave" or the "governing body" was down through the approximate century of the Watchtower Society.
How can they be the "slave" or "governing body" when they can't even get this entity right from one decade to the next?

One of the easiest ways to realize that this "Governing Body came from the early Christians" is BS, is this:
NOBODY - NOBODY in the "sacred JW hierarchy of the faithful and discreet slave" had the slightest notion of a governing body for near onto 100 years.
It only came about because of the obvious need to reign in an increasingly delusional Freddy Franz. Franz himself hated it and said so.
So, would it not follow that if this were such an obvious scriptural idea - it would have been the natural organizational method since day one of the Watchtower? Instead of having to be torturously pieced together like Frankenstein's Monster post 1975?
And, wouldn't it have naturally come up as a solution to the transition from Russell to Rutherford, or from Rutherford to Knorr/Franz? No, it didn't - the "Governing Body" came up cut from whole cloth to cover the damage being done by Franz and his false prophecy.

Guess it really doesn't matter, as everybody will be vegans and of course there is no sex.

Don't look now but an adv with an immodest lady in a green two-piece just appeared on the left side of the page. Swimwear 2010 or something.
