75 year old guy has made it a life's work to give blood as much as possible. He will become one of only two persons in the U.S. (probably also int he world) to have donated 40 Gallons(!) of blood in his lifetime.

Now, while this is probably altruistic in a way, I am reminded of those ladies who collect about 150+ stray cats or dogs and keep them in their old house, or perhaps those nut-jobs who were running a 150 mile marathon across the Death Valley desert in full summer at 115 degree temperatures.

There is a reasonable limit to all good things. Wonder if this will make the pages of the revised Awake magazine?

Van Jones was an articulate speaker and a successful low-level politician. However, he had a fatal flaw - he was a neo-sixties racist & Marxist radical who could not have cared less about real environmentalism...he just wanted to affect change of American society into socialism.

he plays a fake faith healer.

their were a couple swear words, and the brothers asked me to switch it off.. same thing happened with christine applegate movie {pg 13} "don't tell mom the babysiters dead.

I had a JW girlfriend date stand up and walk out of the science fiction thriller THX-1138 because the girl (Mia Farrow? IIRC) got topless and buzzed around with Robert Duvall. Seems that the two of them had kind of gotten off their government-prescribed meds.

I stayed put, letting her cool her heels in the lobby.

I was rewarded by that cool turbine car/motorcycle chase in the tunnels at the end.

One thing I always wondered about this 1914 nonsense is why World War One was considered such a much more significant event than World War Two. This makes no sense - WW1 did nothing but prepare the way in Europe for the much (by orders of magnitude) more devastating WW2 -

And yet - NO WONDERFUL CHRONOLOGY, no specific bible fulfillment, NOTHING about the far more significant WW2. Except for some vague references by the Judge Rutherford that Hitler would probably win.

This is getting far more silly by the year, as most schoolkids probably remember WW1 about as well as they remember Napoleon or the War of 1812.

Right up there with the 7 trumpet blasts being speeches given by Rutherford in such out of the way conventions as Dayton freaking Ohio. Good thing God preserved those scriptural scrolls all these centuries, just to prove a marker that such a wonderful speech could be given out in the cornfields to a few thousand true believers, and then to be forgotten by everyone - including the descendants of the true believers.

Time long past to play the B.S. card on all this.

This is the sanitized version post criticism, revision and review. It looks perfectly OK to me (politically speaking) on the surface as a matter of content.

However, it does offer a window into where this president is coming from: In all the high-minded goals he mentions, did you notice that the common thread is government service? I.E. - being a Mayor, a Judge, being in "public health service".

Nowhere do we see anything (point it out for me if I have missed it) - about becoming a business executive, a home builder, an independent farmer, a small business owner, etc. I.E. - nothing about capitalism as a goal; everything about socialism as a goal.

At least Rappers and NBA basketball players are independent contributors to society in the sense that they are taxpayers (rather than being) tax dependents. (BTW, if George Bush had said not to become rappers or basketball players, would that have been interpreted as a racist remark?)

My Reservations About Calling the Garridos JWs

this thread contains my thoughts after having read several other threads regarding the garridos being jws.... just because it is reported that the garridos are jws doesn't mean that they are really witnesses.... they may have some link to jws such as her being rasied one, his studying while in prison or any number of possibilites where they came to know a little about jwism.. even if they were baptized along the way somewhere doesn't mean that they were active, participating members in the local congregation.. there's a lot wrong with the jw religion and it's policies have helped protect pedophiles and other sexual predators from being brought to justice but i have reservations about shouting from the rooftops that the garridos were jws, when 1) it hasn't been confirmed and 2) it really doesn't do anything to expose the wt society's culpability in covering up sexual abuse.. the garridos are truly whacked.

i'm sure that local jws are just as horrified at what's happened as the average person is.

if the garridos had any connection with a local hall, i bet that the local jws were wary of them due to his nuttiness.

I have to agree with undercover. Probably never were real witnesses, at least after he got hold of the wife.

Did it ever occur to anyone that perhaps his lawyer (claiming they were JW) is trying to build up either a "not of sound mind" or even an insanity defense?

In the sense that he could claim that no Jehovah's Witness could do such things unless they were crazy?

Bulgaria Police Arrest Suspect in Ritual Murder Case

bulgarian police have arrested thursday evening a 52-year old man in connection with the savage murder of elena tomova, a devoted jehovah's witnesses follower.. the news was reported friday by haskovo.net.. tomova's body was discovered tuesday by her son-in law in her faraway villa in the village of vlado trichkov, near the town of svoge, northeast of sofia.. the murderer choked her to death, cut a cross with a knife on her body, cut off her left breast, wrapped her in her bed as if she was sleeping, and finally drew a cross on her head with blood as well as crosses all around the house.. after searching the house of simeon simeonov in the village of rogozino, near the southern town of harmanli, officers from sofia police found a knife with a 16-centimeter blade with traces of blood the forensic team believes belong to tomova.. police also found some of tomova's underwear inside simeonov's house.

in addition to the evidence, investigators discovered many religious books and brochures similar to those located in tomova's villa.. tomova is known to have been a devoted follower of jehovah's witnesses and the residents of the village are convinced that the murder has to do with her involvement with the religious sect.. on thursday, the jehovah's witnesses in bulgaria sent a letter to the media denying any connection with the brutal murder.. ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.

Is it possible that only the woman victim was the JW, and that it was some sort of hate crime against her for that reason? Hard to believe that a JW would carve a cross on someone, no matter if he were homicidal...

If so, that letter about "I know nothing, I see nothing, I hear nothing" from the Watchtower org is disgusting.

There is fairly good evidence that the ancient civilizations of the Kuala Limpur pretty much trashed their rich natural environment by irrigation engineering outside the reasonable sustainability of the land. Thus, the great temple city was abandoned. Not Christian, but certainly not atheist either.

Largely CATHOLIC Brazil is most certainly the greatest destroyer of the vital tropical rain forests on this planet.

It is also ironic that much human devastation in places such as overpopulated Bangledesh and even areas of India itself are plainly the result of over-population. The Catholic Church has long been vehemently opposed to any sort of birth or population control, and this is completely inexplicable to me - given the human suffering of being in abject poverty with 11 starving kids. Not to mention the environment in general.

Sorry, but while I liked his predecessor, this Pope gives me the creeps...and it does not help that he looks a lot like Uncle Fester on the Addams Family.
