  Atheism is sort of like animal rights. Many hunters belong to such groups as Ducks Unlimited, which are all for expanding wetland preservation to protect migrant birds.

  PETA, on the other hand, is something far different. And far more radical by orders of magnitude.

  And so you will find quiet, non-combative atheists in surprising numbers (even some who go to a church for social reasons). Many of these might more properly be called agnostics.

  And so you will find the real toolcase full of wingnuts: Running into a catholic church dressed as nuns in drag, disrupting mass, and so on. I know a self-avowed atheist who actually joined in with Scientology for a long while - and saw no great conflict of interest, as his main agenda was a hatred of conventional christianity.

  What does the Convention do, when no one gets baptized?

  it was communicated to me last night that an assembly in queens, ny (3 miles from headquarters in brooklyn) had no baptisms!

  what does the speaker do when pronouncing the mandatory baptismal talk?

  he says the questions (that have to be asnwered), and answers with a "yes" to all showing people what the due answer would have to be!

  I believe that we held the circuit assembly baptisms only in summer months, and also only when it was known that at least a dozen or so baptismees were available. We usually held them at my parents house because we had a pool.

  Almost always the police got called because of people parking all over the place around our house.

  Prejudice in the Kingdom Hall.

  have you ever noticed how in the kingdom halls who have a mix of races, you find the whites sit in one area of the kingdom hall, and the blacks have their own section?

  the district conventions and circuit assemblys too.

  i've noticed one particular section where there were just black people who made up about 20% of the dc and the rest were white.

  Positive experience here as well. Except for the fact that the black brothers were permitted to wear Malcolm X skinny ties and have moustache - where the whitey crackers like myself were not.

  This does not excuse them for their other wrongs, but I will have to say that they did demonstrate a great deal of racial diversity and tolerance.

  of course, this ignores the fact that their teaching is that they were appointed over jesus earthly belongings in 1919. but, lets roll with it...the witnesses have the truth because they do not:.

  Blood doctrine is indeed very strange, is it not? Especially where the Christ said "you have no life in yourself unless you eat my flesh and drink my blood".

  That is probably the only reference to "human blood drinking" (or cannibalism) in the whole of the Bible, and it speaks positively of it as a religious rite.

  But hardly anyone would accuse conventional Christianity of being modern day vampires.

  Strange that the Jesus words were "slave" while the JW interpretation is "boss-man".

  The people under the "slave" are really the true slaves. For Christ's sakes - they cannot even play the damn piano or other instruments for themselves at the CA anymore.

  REALITY CHECK, MY FRIENDS -

  Since when does having a uniquely strange religious cult teaching make something or somebody "have the truth"???

  So what if they are (or are NOT) absolutely unique?

  Probably the ancient Aztecs were absolutely unique in the way they created their feather head-dresses right before they cut open the guts of their prey and plucked out the still beating hearts.

  This was the pillar of society and the greatest moment of sanctimony for thousands of people and for hundrds of years. Before gunpowder.
