  Malawi Congress Party cards

  under watchtower doctrine, during the 1960s and 1970s witnesses in the african nation of malawi suffered terrible crimes against them for refusing to purchase malawi congress party cards.

  how many participants here have ever viewed a malawi congress party card both inside and outside?.

  What did it matter if they got the card??

  For some strange reason, somebody at HQ in Brooklyn (this was long before there was a Governing Body) had the notion that having this card was supporting the Malawi government, and hence was false worship by making a political statement. It was not really - it was required for all people in Malawi as a sort of state tax and as an ID.

  They did not bother to think out the fact that NOT having the card was actually making MUCH MORE of a political statement than just having it.

  I was in the JW when this happened, along with the "JW letter writing campaign". I think I saw a reproduction of one somewhere back then; probably only one side. IIRC it was about like a cardboard social security card.

  Why were you asking? Do you suspect something interesting is printed on it?

  Does Hispanic mean Mestizo?

  with all the hoopla going on in arizona, i have been hearing a lot of comments about the state of arizona being racists against "hispanics".

  i always thoght hispanic meant someone whose promary language was spanish or in some cases portugese.

  has the word hispanic come to mean only mestizo's (people of mixed european and amerindian ancestry)?.

  was there one incident or epiphany that struck you hard?

  or was it a slow...gradual awakening (no pun)?.

  my coming out of the jw coma (as i like to call it) began at a family rendezvous in the beautiful florida gulf coast.

  It took about ten years afterward to actually act on it, but in 1969 I did some research on the use of the name Jehovah in the New World Translation and was absolutely shocked to find out I had been lied to about how it was inserted into the new testament.

  They just did it because they wanted to: there were not any "oldest texts" that had the name.

  Other things became obvious - all the creationism stuff was B.S., there was no reason to think that the human heart could make up thoughts for your brain, the 1975 prophecy was not going to happen, etc.

  Finally, I was aware of the Ray Franz Bethel scandal from the inside before it became public.

  But, the first moment when I knew they were not infallible was that research I did on their "translation" of the bible back in 1969.

  Will my grief ever end?...

  ok so my youngest daughter (17) has been enveloped by her 'spiritual' older siblings and at the same time convinced that her mum is an evil disfellowshipped harlot.... its gutted me for the past 8 months ...i miss her dreadfully and worry so much about her...i thought she knew me better and that we had an unbreakable bond ....the things she's said to me in emails and texts have torn me apart and i cant keep going back for more...much as i love her i cant continue to be a punch bag...it would kill me to go through anymore abuse..... currently she's getting involved via facebook with some of my new hubby's family (not jws) ...i think there's trouble ahead..... loz x.

  I will never be able to agree that all muslims are evil people to be feared. Even if she is the only decent one in existence, she proves that theory wrong.

  Not all JWs are evil people either - but they suffer from an evil religious teaching and organizational structure.

  NotVeryLikely, you are in denial on the extent of Islamic terrorist thought.

  If it were not pervasive, they would not be in control of entire mideast nations and committing acts of terrorism and human rights violations practically daily.
