In a voice acting contest, who would win--James Woods or James Cromwell?
by sd-7 ini just think they both have cool voices, that's all--very distinctive voices.
james woods: i think it's quite obvious that mine is the superior voice.. james cromwell: superior perhaps to your own mind, but utterly erroneous.. james woods: i beg to differ.. james cromwell: some of us don't need to beg.
james woods: this is the part where you stop talking...or else i...stop you from talking.. james cromwell: are you threatening me?.

I can't for sure remember the name of it, but James Woods the actor played a pretty evil gangster in some action flick with Jeff Bridges...
He drove a black Ferrari 308 in the car chase scene, and Bridges had a red Porsche 911 Targa.

The ad hoc Generation
by TD into me, the word, "generation" has always been one of those fuzzy terms with an annoyingly slippery definition set.. i have a blood relative who was the very youngest child in a family of 13. the age difference between him and his oldest siblings is more than twenty years and some of them were actually married and had children of their own before he was even born.
therefore some of his nieces and nephews are actually older than he is.
one nephew that he was especially close to when he was growing up is almost exactly his age, as they were both born in the same month of the same year.. a situation like this; where an uncle is the exact same age as his nephew can easily occur in very large families and makes you think about what exactly the term, "generation" really means.

The problem for JWs explaining this generation change is that they defined it themselves for many years:
It was a person "old enough in 1914 to know what was going on" - who would see the final end. They said so themselves.
It came to be seen that this was not happening, so now "generation" means just about anything to them (after about 3 1/2 tries now).

I want to know whether 607 is valid or not.
by XPeterX ini seek concrete evidence.explain it in a few words or post links that can contradict jw material.if 607 is a lie then 1914 is lie..
-

Did anybody notice that we might as well let this 607 thread die now (like about a thousand others in the past) - ?
Original poster XpeterX has lost interest, leaving only dukefx - who is plainly delusional on the subject, and thinks the bible itself names 607.

so it's a matter similar to evolution vs biblical creation, you believe in the bible, evolution is false, 607 is true.
What bible has 607BCE in it? I have never seen one.

Just by chance, the radio DJ on the way to work this morning told the story about how that urban legend of the rock music records that gave out satanic messages when played backward got started:
Turns out it was a non-JW evangalistic nutcase preacher that made it up. They gave his name, but I didn't catch it.
It made me think of this thread - made me wonder if perhaps this smurf rumor also came from some non-JW fire and brimstone preacher nut?

"Finished Their Earthly Course"
by snowbird inthis is how the wt characterizes "anointed" christians who died faithful to wt doctrine.. a careful reading of matthew 24 (a trumpet blast from an angel will gather the chosen ones), 1 corinthians 15 (ditto), 1 thessalonians 4 (ditto), will reveal that all the dead will remain dead until that event occurs.. it takes a lot of twisting and turning of scripture for the wt to conclude that the dead in christ began to arise after 1918, and that those who died after that time experienced an instantaneous resurrection.. i tremble for them!.

I see what you did thar. You sneaky devil you.
Who, ME?
Anyway, according to the Jdubs, I guess they would think Ray Franz HAS finished his earthly course - in a manner of speaking.

How long did the Watchtower Society's campaign against aluminium last?
by slimboyfat ini came across a discussion of the golden age magazine's anti-aluminum stance in a book on the history of reaction to government policy on fluoride:.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/fluoride-wars-americas-political-melodrama/dp/0470448334/ref=sr_1_64?ie=utf8&s=books&qid=1276764067&sr=1-64.
use the "search inside" feature to find the discussion of the golden age on pages 131 and 132.. among other things it says: "unbelievably, the golden age published over 130 articles railing against aluminium cookware between 1925 and 1969".. did the society continue to publish articles against aluminum as late as 1969?

The 1987 "Aluminum Alert" from AWAKE! is a subtle reminder that the Watchtower probably was right all along.
You know what? Considering Global Warming, the Oil Spill, the fact that I am going to be 61 this year, and the end of the Mayan Calender in 2012 - I don't care. And I have other things to spend my money on rather than buying new pots and pans.

Just thinking about it, has anybody ever seen a non-stick (teflon) pan that was not coated aluminum? I don't believe I have -
Double whammy for the WT holdovers on aluminum - that teflon contains fluorine!
BTW, that '87 "watching the world" is news to me, but is way after my JW time. But it is so typical of "watching the world" - I think they let some junior writers do that column and just pick and choose nutbar stuff from other papers to put in there. This would give them the out that they did not exactly write it themselves, but it would not be the first time that something way off base found its way into the Awake in "watching the world".
