Adam Naming the Animals ... Did It Take THAT Long ???
by RubaDub inthe bible speaks about adam naming the animals in the garden of eden.. any thoughts about how long that would have taken ???.
i mean, you have steve and betty the sheep, mike and nancy the dogs, miguel and maria the zebras, irv and amanda the cats, etc, etc, etc.. it doesn't seem like it would take a long period of time.
plus, he was alone at the time so he wasn't getting pestered from his wife and kids about what the names should be.

Agnostic Christianism
by AK - Jeff inby definition, an agnostic is, well, agnostic about his belief in god.
he doubts, or maybe he just wonders.
but he is not a solid believer.

I am still trying to establish where I stand. I really want to believe in a creator, I want someone out there to care about us and sort out the sh*t we have got ourselves into. The thing is I don't think there is, so I read deabtes about doctrine and dogma with a degree of academic interest but see it as pontification.
I believe as humans we have the intellectual capacity to get ourselves out of the aforementioned mess, searching for solutions is IMHO for more constructive. What can we do as individuals to make things better. How we can individually and collaboratively influence decision makers to improve things.
Having spent 42 years expecting God to sort things out has meant that I haven't been making the contribution I should have been. I am now resolved to do what I can. Being a Christian, a Muslim, a Hindu or whatever isn't going to make any difference.

Did Jesus ever claim Messiahship?
by AK - Jeff inin her book, introduction to christianity, mary jo weaver says this:.
"some christians think that jesus was so clearly the messiah that no one could fail to recognize him as such...... christians who see jews as a 'problem' might be surprised to learn that jesus has been a continual puzzle for the jews.
medieval jews tended to picture jesus as an apostate jew, a man who had lost his faith; 19th century jewish scholars had an image of jesus as a great ethical teacher.

Snowbird, How can you differentiate between a conviction compelled by Holy Spirit and just normal human emotion. The most spiritual emotion I have ever experienced was seeing Pink Floyd live in 1994 during the song comfortably numb. I am not being flippant, but I am sure that if I made progressive rock my religion I can convince myself that the Holy Spirit was operating on me.

Were You Treated Like Crap By The "Brothers" and "Sisters"?
by minimus inwere you and your family well received in the congregation or were you treated like crap?.

Personally never had a problem. My family is so well known, that I seem to have inherited a degree of respect by their works. I was seen as a spiritual lad and I married a spiritual sister. We have both pioneered and have also been right in the middle of the congregation.
What do I mean by spiritual - I can answer up well, I can think on my feet, so I'm quite good at keeping people engaged in FS, and I can delievr a good Public Talk. These abilities have given me the "privilege" of serving on the BOE.
As I have said on this forum before, I don't have many friends in the congregation, but the few I do have I am close to. I am under no illusion of how deep that friendship is, I am sure as soon as they detect I am fading their loyalty will be with the bOrg and won't want to know me or the reasons why I am leaving. I have done this myself with friends I grew up with who left the truth.
So at the moment I am treated well, I expect in the near future I too will be treated like crap, unless I can undermine the faith of my friends before then.

CO/DF'ing Rumor Rationale
by metatron inin the past year, there have been many rumors about changes in the co arrangement as well as disfellowshipping.
i think that there is a solid legal rationale for these proposed changes that relates strongly to these two areas.. it's called 'deep pockets' and the chain of command.. consider the fact that elders are appointed by the watchtower society and have the power to expel members from the entire organization.
this is very different from the first century during which you could be tossed out of one synagogue/church but accepted somewhere else.. the elders send out records of each disfellowshipping to headquarters attesting to the fact that the organization is strongly centralized.

The book is due in 2010. It is only reason I don't want to resign. I want to be the first to publish it on the internet

How much of Jesus life was recorded c ontemporaneously? I am begining to feel that a great deal of the Gospels are retrospectively creating a legend, a myth to fit a developing religious paradigm.
