Good to see that some of my contributions to the WWW over the years have been well used, and not all on protecting peadophiles.

ethical consequences of faking reinstatement...
by drew sagan ini know that there are enough of you out there who can add good points to this discussion, and i await your opinions.
however, please be aware that i wish for you to take great care in your posts.
i am not interested in haphazard responses.. so as to not give away too many details, i'll simply say that recent events have caused my in-laws to strongly desire my wife to fake a reinstatement.

When I first read this it seemed a strange scenario. But is it any different to someone like myself, fading and putting on a pretense so that I don't end up DF'd? I put in an occasional appearance at the meetings, use health and family issues as excuses for poor attendance and even put in reports for FS that I haven't done. All this so that my family, especially my mother, think I am in good standing.
Your wife has to do what she feels comfortable with. How easy would it be for someone to out her as still DF'd to those who matter? Such an exposure may have ramifications that could result in further alienation of the realtionship she is trying to save.
She needs to think through all the possibilities and how she would deal with each one and then make the decision as tgo what to do.

THE REVELATION, ITS GRAND CLIMAX AT HAND"
by maputo95 indo you have the revelation, its grand climax at hand" book"?
it is a fascinating book backed up throughout with scriptures will open your eyes but you must read it from beginning to end.. the above is a quote from my jw friend, inactive for 30 years and thinking of sheepishly returning.
is the book cited above a scholarly and dependable commentary on revelation?.

AE you amaze sometimes. Who the hell would ever want to study that book with their family. You really must want your kids to leave the organisation because that drivell will lead them to that eventuality.

It is not a commentary. IMO It is an interpretation of prophecy with the primary purpose of justifying that JW's are god's agents on earth and the Governing Body were prophesied. As for how scholarly it is ,there seems to be no acedemic references or critique. It is just speculation and manipulation of information to fit the JW philosophy.

The Truth Of "Serving" As An Elder
by minimus inwho the hell are "the elders"?
being an elder is supposed to be a "privilege".
elders are supposed to be "shepherds" who care for the flock.

I accepted the privilege of being an elder with good motive. I could help the congregation and be a moderating influence. I was young and understood the pressures of other young people. What a let down when I realised entrenched attitudes were never going to be shifted. Little did I realise that if you challenged the status quo coalitions within the body would conspire against you. There are some who are genuine, they want to be positive influence, but their voices are all but drowned out by the ignorant, despotic, career Elders. When I stepped down the relif was immense.

How will the Watchtower change as OLDER MEMBERS DIE OFF?
by nicolaou inthe 'old-timers' generally carry a congregation.. .
i grew up in a cong' with six members of the 'anointed' - only one remains, a lovely lady with genuine warmth and interest in people who is now in a nursing home.. .
what happens when the depth that these individuals bring is lost?

To main stream they would have drop so much of the BS, including things like:-
- No more disfellowshipping
- No more blood transfusion ban
- Reinstating Birthdays' and Xmas
- Allowing free thought and research amongst it's membership
Can't see any of those happening too be honest, they would lose control of the membership.

Adjusting to illness & old age
by dozy inthe point is sometimes made in these forums that the societies constant insistence that the end is nigh has meant that so many jws fail to make adequate financial provisions for their retirement.. however , ive noticed an increasing trend amongst jws in middle age to elderly ones that they also havent made adequate emotional provisions , as they have been constantly told that they would never get old in this system.
most non-jws , aware that sooner or later they will experience a deterioration in their health, are mentally better prepared to cope with this.
with many jws it seems to throw them completely.. a good friend , aged around 50 , has just been diagnosed with a fairly serious illness.

Dozy, I think you are absolutely correct. A number of my close freinds are now entering their 60's and nearing retirement. They thought it was never going to happen to them. You can detect their confusion, see their disappointment and feel the fear as they build strategies as to what they need to do now. Not only are they unprepared for the financial changes af retirement, but they see their kids and grand children still struggling with this system and their expectation was, as you point out, that they and their kids would be living in Paradise. I think many of them are no longer deluded, they can see through it all, but make the decision to stay as it is easier to do nothing than to start over.
