Bible Research help needed.

my wife and i want to start looking afresh at the bible, go back to basics as it were.. what have people here found to be the best approach?.

what translations of the bible would you reccomend (i have the nwt).

what commentaries / texts have people found most useful?.

Thanks everyone. This exercise is more for my wife than for me, but saying that it will be a really interesting excercise. I would like to undertake a really objective comparison, I know to do that a comparison of other religious texts not just the bible should be made, but she isn't ready to demolish her belief that the bible is gods word.

Chalam (Stephen), I intend to take this seriously if only to show support for my wife, and will ask for the guidance of the spirit. I am not sure whether I can build a faith to the extent that you have, I do read your posts and recognise a sincerity of heart in you which I used to have as a witness. There is a part of me that recognises a spiritual need but how that is satisfied I don't know. Your prayers would be appreciated.

99 out of 100 jws won't be able to spot the jest ---- why??.

because they are mentally conditioned thru 5 mind control meetings per week to ignore jests of any kind.. (the gb would never allow jests in the artwork).

Life is to short - don't tolerate unhapiness and spiritual bullying as normal behaviour. Jesus wanted our load to be light and to find joy in our lives, yes this life not some future one. GET OUT!!!!!!!

Thank you all for your comments. I met with Mr. Majestic a few days a ago and one of the questions he asked me was will I ever be an EX ex JW? Meaning will I ever get to the stage of leaving this board and just forget I was ever a witness. I don't know if that will ever happen. I have been helped by people like ATJ, OTWO, AKJ, Mouthy, Flipper and others who seem to use this forum as a way to help people get this a tough process. I would like to think that I can help in this way too.

I am still a long way from saying I have executed a succesful fade, as far as I know my letter of resignation hasn't even been responded to by the Branch, I suppose I should go a meeting to find out. I have a feeling the CO may deal with this when he comes next. But the truth is I really don't care. I am no longer goint o be controlled by self self important men in an insignificant, pseudo-religious cult.
