Evolution Hole #1 - Origin of Life
by shadow indisclaimer: my graduate degree is in business, not science so i'm writing as a layman in this field.
yes, i know that someone is going to say that evolution does not encompass this topic and should be sectioned off under abiogenesis.
i'm not trying to argue semantics here but it seems like a case of avoiding an uncomfortable subject.

Humans can't create life can't even create a red blood cell so there merit in the argument that life in its basic for must have been created.
No there's not!

Do you think any animals will ever reach human intelligence?
by EndofMysteries inif all life was truly random, then what happened that allowed humans to it's current intelligent state, do you think non humans could and will reach that in the future?

Human intelligence has worked well for Homo sapiens, but the downside is it has enabled behaviour that may well result in the sixth mass extinction. We are not the only "intelligent" animals, Cephalopods demonstrate highly advanced cognitive skills and probably evolved those capabilities well before we did.......and without endangering themselves or their environment.

I conclude evolution is guided
by KateWild inyour qualifications are way above mine so i'd love to hear more about the specifics of what you have researched and how that supports the existence of a deity.
k99, i am not really convinced that you're interested in my conclusions.

Sam......
Nature is a British interdisciplinary scientific journal, first published on 4 November 1869.[1] It was ranked the world's most cited scientific journal by the Science Edition of the 2010 Journal Citation Reports, is ascribed an impact factor of approximately 38.1, and is widely regarded as one of the few remaining academic journals that publishes original research across a wide range of scientific fields.[2]
Yes it's a credible source ;)

Good debate. I think LC's final sentence says it all, we should respect people but don't have to respect silly ideas. There is a danger that we could burn bridges by being too critical and in order to fight extremism we need to work with moderate religious influencers.
The truth is most of the conflict isn't due to the words of confrontational atheists, but due to the actions of political leaders.

Given many subsequent posts by this same poster, I think we can safely say we don't need to take this seriously. Sorry to be so blunt but have lost credibility.
Sorry to be blunt but Malc was taken the piss out of you

I came here three years ago for support and to make friends
by KateWild inthis site is such a great and valuable resource and simon is to be commended for running it for so long.
when i first came i was in such a bad state and really needed support and friendship.
so many posters commented on my threads and showed genuine care some are real life friends, some are facebook friends, some i talk to on the phone and some are forum friends.. i have just realised though that everyone online is not your friend.
