The Bible

i am meeting a coworker tonight at a coffee shop for a "bible study".

it started out that she was interested in my past and my current questions / viewpoints and we were just going to visit.

now she is referring to it as a "bible study" which implies that she thinks i need to be taught.

And where did mans freedom of choice come from? Man? If one believes in a creator, then he was ultimately responsible. As ALLTIMEJEFF pointed out on his posts if the parent isn’t there to have a positive influence or set the rules and police the situation crap is going to hit the fan. It’s actually even more appalling when one thinks about it in the following manner.

God creates man, man turns away from god partly because god allows a 3 rd party to influence man. God disgusted with mans decision figures “they’ll learn” and allows the 3 rd party to continue to have a bad influence on man, yet he himself not doing anything positive for man, or counter action to the bad influence. God even go’s so far as to punish mankind on a few occasions (ouch). But of course the whole time this god makes promises to those that would obey him they will be rewarded. Obviously with time things degenerate so much that man even doubts in existence of this all loving father, because like they say “actions are stronger than words”. So can we say their was freedom of choice in this matter? Not really because this choice would require that all mankind be perfect and know what the choices meant in absolute terms. All we have lived is the bad side of it and only promises from the good side.

Your use of the words “mistakes have crept in” is really minimizing the gravity of their attitude at the time. A mistake doesn’t creep in, it is simply done. Errors in judgment, lack of proper understanding etc. may very well be the case here if one really wants to stretch the imagination. The crux of the problem regarding their comportment is simple, how could they have not known that their attitude was in direct opposition to gods word that you so ardently defend? Even an allowance for ignorance can not explain away the fundamental truth that was blatantly manifest at the time. This is not some obscure subject matter that could be misunderstood and adjustments would be forthcoming. It’s a foundation building block regarding true belief in god and the teachings of Jesus. Fallibility of man is not in question here, the application of gods law and the teachings of Jesus in it’s most simplistic form as viewed by the GB is though. And this “fact they are humble enough” is of course after the fact that they are shown for what they were. The black brothers were probably complaining for decades until they had their supposed new light shined down on the GB. That’s like me saying after killing someone and getting caught “I admit it, but I had a good reason” That’s not even close to being humble or even regretting my action. It’s called trying to justify, and that’s what they always do. You and many like you just won’t see it that way, because you bought the NEW light excuse and tow it around like a catholic does the cross. (no insult intended to ardent catholic readers)

many here have abandoned the bible as "the word of god" and there are numerous reasons for said abandonment.

however what i am interested in finding out is if the bible is the word of god, then what would you expect to find?.

Actually I see things very differently Reniaa, what I see is an organization (prominently white ) trying to figure out how to deal with the black man period. Which is understandable at the secular level as segregation, prejudice and racism was openly practiced in the US. In the North where the organization first started, this mindset was firmly entrenched even though the North fought the South over slavery, (this was primarily for economic reason and not true equality of all men). But since we discussing religious beliefs and actions or inaction one would have thought that they would have been spiritually guided to treat all equally. What we see is these men making concessions based on the common secular thought at the time. Instead of treating all as equals from day one as one would expect from those claim to follow gods word, they allowed there actions and inactions to be fueled by what was commonly accepted personally and by the masses at the secular level. If they were spirit guided men and woman we would not be having this discussion period. History itself would attest that these peoples were truly guided by love, compassion, respect, equality and the love of god. Not 10, 20 or 50years later.

Thats my opinion.

JW Defenders- Is WTS Right to Insist You Stay Away From these Websites?

i read these threads and there are a few that bend over backwards to say why wts is correct on this issue or that issue.. they act like typical jw's that refuse to acknowledge points that may show that wts is not following the scriptures or that wts goes beyond the scriptures in a way that is not supported by others.. the point could be the blood issue or shunning or whether 1799 or 1914 was the start (or finish?

) of the last days or whether there is a faithful and discreet slave class or not.

i don't want to harp on each point.

Since the thread isn’t getting any bites by any true defenders, I figured I will tell my true life story (short version) for those that are lurking and curious about why the WTS takes the high ground regarding this and other sites out there.

Background: When I left the JW’s the internet wasn’t something common so one had to go through a lot of reading material to find answers to any questions. The Goal: I was looking for clarification concerning past events in the history of the organization, some doctrine changes etc. I was an MS and pioneer at the time.

Why?:It started with a comment that my Father in Law a JW elder who was miffed over something that happened at an elders meeting. He said “I should have left the organization in 1975 with the rest of them” I had no clue what he was talking about, but asked when he calmed down what he had meant since my JW experience began in the late 80’s. He showed me a bunch of old WT’s and literature regarding the date and explained what happened as he was in the truth in the early 60’s. Anyway, this made me curious regarding this and other prophetic dates, doctrine changes etc. Obviously when your sincere and honest to the truth you ask questions, especially when you feel that these are legitimate and feel will affirm your convictions.

The outcome: Hostility or “trying to find fault” (No just clarification) “Your drawing the wrong conclusions” (You know your not) “ Your reading to much into it” (This is the WT can’t you read?)“That’s not exactly what happened” (Strange that’s not what everyone else that was there say) oh and the classic “Satan is planting seeds of doubt” Needless to say you start to draw your own conclusions, mainly someone’s trying to hide something. I quickly learned they only wanted blind dedication, which reminded me of many other religions.

My point? I wish we had the internet then, it would have shaved a good 2 years off of my making the decision. If the GB & WTS say the media, internet, TV etc. is bad that’s because they have something to hide and that has nothing to do with TRUTH.

OP. It only becomes a problem if you allow it to become a problem, if she's says she is going there to see friends and family then you have accept it as such. Yes there's always the danger that they pressure her, but that's what happens when you jump into the lions den, if she is well armored she will come out of it relatively unscratched. If not expect the slow stroll down the yellow brick road. Depends on the maturity level of each individual from what I have seen.

Personally, unless I had doubt or desire to return to the JW’s, I for one would never set foot back into a KH or DA simply out of self respect for the decision I made. I lost a lot of family and friends and like many have suffered personally. But I rather have a clean conscience than play head games with myself and others.
