A gift cerificate or some flowers are good ideas. I don't know any woman that doesn't like to get flowers!

Do Jehovah's Witnesses take responsibility for anything?
by BonaFide innow that i am opening my eyes more and more, i am starting to realize that jw's don't see the need to take responsibility for anything.. like in the wt for this week, if a jw marriage fails, they can say it was because they didnt pray enough, or preach together enough.. if an elder gives counsel about anything, then if it seems to work for the person, then he accepts the praise or says it came from jehovah.. but if things don't work out, then the elder will blame the person for not following the counsel right.
or he will tell them to wait on jehovah.. or if there is a wrong teaching, it is never really wrong, it is only the light getting brighter.. it doesnt really matter what happens in a persons life, it is never the fault of jw's or teachings or decisions.
they will say that jehovah is allowing this test, or that the person didnt follow the counsel, or that jehovah is doing things in a special way, or that we don't know yet why that happened, but we will.. for a person that has a comfortable life, and things going pretty well, and they never ask the elders for help, often they think that is jehovah's blessing.. but if something big goes wrong, and the elders give bad advice, or they punish someone and call it "help" and they mess up a persons life, it completely doesnt matter to them.

I remember a DC where they interviewed a brother who was working part time (cleaning) and he and his wife ended up with huge medical bills. Instead of getting a full time job with benefits, they decided to keep pioneering. "Jehovah will provide." Yep, the congregation coughed up the money for them. They wouldn't have gotten a dime from me. And shop is right, they didn't thank the congregation on stage, they thanked Jehovah.

Feeling numb... feeling like I did when I first DAed.
by Elsewhere inmy dad recently told all the kids that he has terminal cancer.
he is going to die... could be in a month... could be in a year.. all the kids recently visited my parents over last weekend.
i was allowed to come too due to the "family business" clause in the wts rules.. yesterday i cried... i'm still crying a bit today and am feeling numb.

It's sad that it takes a family tragedy to pull everyone together. Elsewhere

People who Talk During Movies
by jeanniebeanz inyou know, to take three people to the movies now, including snacks and drinks can cost $50.00 or more.
it burns my biscuits when someone brings a bunch of kids in and then has absolutely no interest in ensuring that they don't disrupt the viewing.
worse, some folks drop their kids off at the movies and have no idea that they are being little hellions and ruining the expensive experience for others.. then, there is the guy who wants to see the movie but keeps his blackberry going all through it so that if you are sitting behind him, every time he gets a call and that blinding little blue glare pops up you are distracted.

Today I realized we are living in "the last days." Socks!
by Witness 007 ini went to my sock draw and for some reason i could not find two the same color...what the hell!
maybe a "tartarus" or "gehenna" for wicked socks.
i swear this is some demonized crap as i sit here at work with one grey one black sock!.

Those disfellowshipped socks look clean... surely, they must be dirty! Nasty unclean socks disfellowshipped from the purity of the sock drawer!

Please nominate your favourite film and say why you rate it so highly.
by lifelong humanist ini've just watched all 3 parts of francis ford coppola's epic godfather once again.
it is a superb achievement on many levels.
each viewing reveals something new and fresh.. i recall, as a good jw at the time, not seeing it when released as it was not certified as 'suitable' given the content for jws.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that one, too.
Ha ha, keyser soze! Another good twisty plot is Memento. Just when you think that you know what's going on, bam! Everything changes.

New to Halloween...What do YOU do?
by Bourne ini've never celebrated halloween (too bad none of you live around here - jacksonville fl), but for whatever reason, i have alot of good memories from the anticipation of the various holidays as a child (i'm originally from a state that actually had seasons), even though we as jw's did'nt participate.
i still remember being at friends' houses, seeing them apparently happy and found myself wishing that i could have something to look forward too that was fun and not just the memorial (such a solemn occasion).
i have swore to myself that when (and if) i ever have children that i will celebrate them (the holidays + birthdays) as would want them to have some of the memories that i was denied.. am i making too much of this?.

bluecanary, are you going to dress up this year? A friend of mine has a huge party- thinking of dressing up as Alice in Wonderland this year. The American McGee version, not Disney's.

The Usual Suspects- had a fantastic cast, they all did an awesome job, and it's a good drama with a twisty plot.
