University after leaving the Watchtower?
by SweetBabyCheezits inhello, you sexy sassy posters of jwn.
i'm starting this thread in the hopes of finding... uh, hope.... and sharing it with others who are in a similar boat.
i'm looking for input from anyone who meets the following criteria:.
-
Jadeen
- raised by devout JWs
- skipped university after high school due to WT propaganda
- woke up later and left the WT
- got married and had one or more kids
- decided to invest in a real university education
- not made of time or money
What was your overall goal? (Education for the intrinsic value of knowledge alone, career opportunities, satisfaction of obtaining a degree, etc...)
-I wanted a more reliable job where I wouldn't have to worry about layoffs in slow season. Plus the satisfaction of having a degree- several of my teachers in high school were really disappointed when they found out I wasn't going to college. I had the brains, just didn't have the chance with my upbringing. Plus, I got tired of how some people looked down on me for not going to college.
What major and level of degree were/are you seeking?
-Bachelor's degree.
Did you get the degree you wanted? Or are you still working on it?
-It's in the medical field- lots of opportunities with baby boomers getting older. I'll be finished this May.
Were you able to balance time with family, work, and school without going crazy?
-I managed to save a bunch of money by working OT. When I got laid off, I got a little assistance with schooling, so I could concentrate on school and not work. I was doing 18 credit semesters (12 is considered fulltime), so I'll be graduating a year earlier than planned. My husband was really supportive and we don't have kids, so that was not as stressful.
What sacrifices did you have to make, if any? Was it worth it?
-I really cut back on buying things. Magazine subscriptions, clothing, going out. Christmas break I patched a bunch of jeans, instead of buying new ones. Shop for deals at the grocery store. I bought textbooks from the students ahead of me to save big bucks. Scrimped and saved. I think it'll be worth it- be able to get a better job, make more money, and help people.

Sacroiliac Joint Pain - Anyone?
by Lozhasleft inabout ten days ago this pain started...kind of around my hip bone then gradually increasing around my back and down my groin.
i managed to see a dr last thursday and although i had no urinary symptoms i thought it was something to do with my kidney.
by then it was becoming unbearable and strong analgesics and anti inflammatories weren't touching it.. the dr disagreed and said 'i think this is the sacroiliac joint'.

You might need SI joint pain injections. Just like Blondie described. Your doctor might also prescribe physical therapy for you, which the pain injections will help to knock the pain back enough for you to actually do physical therapy.

Hello Everyone :-)
by new one ini've only recently joined but i've been lurking for well over a year.
i'll just start with a bit of my story so you'll have a better idea on were i'm coming from, i've read that much of most of your posts that i feel i already know you all anyway lol.. i'm 32 years old now and for most of my life i've had jw's around me at times, my mom used to study on and off with them all through my child hood alough she never took the plunge i'm not sure why because even to this day she say's she holds the same beliefs but somethings held her back so there's doubt somewhere!.
anyway, having had the magazines around me for most my life i'd read them from time to time, but, when i reached about 17 years old i discovered nightclubs, alcohol and, well you know the rest ;-).. fast forward to my early 20's and i'd had a failed attempt at setting up my own business, my parents had split up after 25 years together and long story short i had a nervous breakdown.

What was life like for you as a JW teenager?
by highdose inin the wt's illistrations they portray jw teenagers as happy, together group.
my experinace is that the jw teenagers in the cong were some of the bitchyist backstabbing arse holes i'll ever meet.. it was unheard of for us to engage in group "wholesome activity" as show in the wt's illistrations.
the competition amongst the girls for the handsome, sane and elders sons were cut throat.
-
Jadeen
Oh yeah, I remember the competition for the guys attention. There was one guy in particular in our congo that I got along with. We had a similar, dry sense of humor. We weren't attracted to each other, but we were buds. One of the girls set her sights on him, and after meetings, I could count down how long before she pulled him away from me- in the middle of a conversation!
Her goal was to get married at 18 and to be the first in our age group to tie the knot. Someone beat her to it- ha!
I thought that their behavior was embarrassing. I wasn't attracted to the guys in my hall; they just didn't seem genuine, acting one way at the hall and another way outside. Of course, we weren't allowed to show our true personalities; we all had to act "spiritually minded".

Well, the pdf of the March 2012 WT is hot off the press!
by serenitynow! inand it does not disappoint.
the first century brothers are on the cover, going door to door with what look like leather messenger bags.. the first article is entitled, are all "christians" christian.
and you can tell by the picture that anyone with a beard or goatee is definitely not a real christian.. the next article, remain in my word has this quote that condemns catholics but seems eerily close to what jws believe:.

They can't be true Christians- they have beards!

Merry Pantsmas Everyone!
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inokay, i posted this in a thread that got locked and buried.
since then i've been really busy and have overdosed on christmas music in the past week.
so, i'm resurrecting this "holy day" holiday that most people will unknowingly be celebrating tomorrow.
