I've had days where I'm driving in to work and the temptation to just keep going is so strong. Why do I have to be responsible?

Ever just want to run away.
by LouBelle injust give up the job, the house and go somewhere where life moves at a slower pace and there are not as many electronic intrusions?
only thing to get to a place like that costs money.. if i had my way, give all of this up for a quiet life on a little small holding that can look after my needs..

Your reaction if they drop the shunning policy?
by jam inhow would you react toward those family members that.

If the people that have shunned me realized just what a horrible and cruel policy shunning is, I would probably be able to forgive most of them. If these people stopped shunning me just because the Society said it was ok, I would keep my distance. After all, the Society could implement shunning again in the future, and I see no point to opening my heart to being hurt again.

The Beatings Will Continue Until Morale Improves
by PaintedToeNail inbeing an adult, i choose not to attend the meetings.
i would prefer my children not attend meetings, however being married to a diehard jw, this is difficult to accomplish.
the kids do not want to attend, as the meetings are boring, as they have often said.

That was my childhood too! Sunday mornings, us kids would wake up and tip toe around the house. "Shhhh, don't wake up mom and dad!" Then, as soon as meeting time started, we would stop being totally quiet. But if we said that we didn't want to go to meeting, we would get a spanking and have to go anyway. Once we got older, the deal was if you don't go to meeting, you have to clean the house. We picked cleaning the house as much as our parents would let us.

Health - has anyone else suffered long lasting health effects from years with the Borg?
by Chariklo indoes anyone else feel or know that jehovah's witnesses damaged their health?.
i know many have emerged with depression, and i'm very relieved that i am not one of them.. but, being the age i am, (a large tribe of grandchildren) i was nonetheless pressured to go out door to door in steep countryside often in bad weather, and because i was doing my best to keep up that ended in an injury which has proved to be long lasting.. and that's not counting the stress-induced consequences...i won't cite them all here, but physical.
a few days in hospital and a summer spent on compulsory almost complete rest can all be laid at the watchtower's door.the trauma of actually extricating oneself from the borg is not stopped when one has finally written that letter that disassociates oneself from them.

How about being actively discouraged from working out? In high school, I was asked to join track and field and volleyball when classmates saw how I did in phy ed. Had to turn them down, since it would "distract from meetings and service". So I started running, just because I liked it and heard more of the same after people saw me in my neighborhood.
Now I'm trying to get back into fitness and it's hard. I should have just ignored those gossiping idiots.

How would you feel about this and would you steps to change the situation
by troubled mind innext week i am having surgery at the local hospital .
one of my old jw 'friends ', that no longer considers me worthy of even a hello ,is a surgical tech there .. would you take steps to ask she not be on the operating team ?
it was brought to my attention today that i do have the right to ask for that person not to be present because of personal issues .. what would you do ?

Troubled, I was just clarifying because of some comments about being under a JWs scalpel. And I agree, I wouldn't want someone who refuses to talk to me having anything to do with my surgery. In my area, there's quite a few that do medical records- I can imagine the snooping that goes on!

Just to be clear, surg techs do not perform surgery. They are part of the sterile team that assists the doctor during surgery- handing them the proper tools, suction, that kind of thing. And remember, even though she's not going to be part of your sugical team, she still has to follow patient confidentiality rules. She gossips and she could lose her job.

I think the logic goes: She was raised in, so she should know better and follow "The Truth".

Some people shun me, even though I was never baptized. Most will say "hi", but they seem really uncomfortable. That's not too surprising; after all, what do we have in common to talk about now? I usually just smile at them and let them decide if they want to come to me and talk.
