  Has anyone lost a friend or known of someone who committed suicide over BORG-induced guilt?

  i am not going to use any names for this because i don't want to cause potential hurt to anyone.. there was a very nice family in my congregation when i was a teenager.

  step-dad, mom, and her 4 kids.

  the dad became an elder, had a great business, the mom spent lots of time with the kids.

  A few years ago I talked with an ex-JW who had started a support group for gay witnesses. He said that the suicide rate was quite high for them.

  When and should I tell my family I am pregnant?

  left three years ago - did the fade away and managed to avoid getting dissed.

  have been living with my boyfriend for a year and a half and am 9 wks pregnant, we are both very happy about it.

  i have been having a really hard time with the hormones and the morning sickness - cannot eat anything except crackers as it comes back up immediately and the slight smell of anything unsavoury sets me off.

  I've known a few people in your situation. I can say in all of those cases, after the mom and dad get over their initial feelings- you know, embarrassed about their child having a child out of wedlock- all of the moms and dads were happy about having a grandchild, especially if it's the first grandkid. You are going to have to decide when the time is right to tell them. Since your sister has not told you about her wedding (seriously, WTF?!) don't bring it up before then.

  experience with an old workmate earlier this week

  a few details have been changed in case the person posts here: we talked for several hours.

  she said she lost all motivation and would like it back but cant get it back.

  she still believes most of their doctrines and believes she follows them because they teach the truth.

  A JW Was Just At The Door

  my gf said a witness just came to her door gave a pamphlet about how close we are to the end, never said a word, just handed it to her and walked away.. i told her that since she accepted it, she is his new "return visit".. i tellya, these "ministers" really know how to save lives!.

  What Were Some Stupid Rules In Your Hall?

  families with younger children had to sit in the last 3 rows or they were counseled!.

  disfellowshipped persons were told not to sit next to each other and talk because it "looks like they're unrepentant"..

  Apparently there was a congregation near ours that banned women wearing red dresses because the symbolic Great Harlot in the publications wore a red dress. I still don't get how a color that God created could be evil...

  How many of you do a job now that you would have feared or derided when you were a JW?

  I'm going to school for Radiologic Technology. The school I'm going to offers 4 year degrees (*gasp*- that's even worse than community college!). With a 4 year degree, I'll learn all the different areas, like MRI, CT, mammography, fluoroscopy, nuclear medicine, etc. and I'll be able to go into hospital admin or teach!

  I had one of those discussions this weekend - Am I getting anywhere?

  last week during bible highlights, a sister commented on leviticus 19:28 about not having a tattoo.

  i also commented, saying that we are not under the law, but the principle should be taken into consideration.. a sister i don't speak with very often called me.

  she is in the same congregation as some of my family.

  I got a tat a couple of years after I stared to fade. It's a bird design that I came up with. I think of birds as symbols of freedom. I got it as a reminder to myself to quit looking to the past and wishing I could change things.

  And no, I don't think that your conversation was boring! Maybe your friend will start thinking about what she's being taught at the hall.

  life in the new system, did you give it much thought?

  sure, we would be brought to perfection, and there would be a resurrection, but how about other things?.

  in my years growing up and living as a jw, i never really thought about it that much.
