I'm not TEC, and I cannot reconstruct my sources, but my understanding is that yes, the Jews in general were very racist. Mind you, they only believed THEY were the Elected People and the rest could as well go to the sheol.

by mP ini am starting a new thread, as i have had several posts with tec regarding this very matter.
in answer he said: i was not sent forth to any but to the lost sheep of the house of israel.
in answer he said: it is not right to take the bread of the children and throw it to little dogs.

Blame the designer and not the product: God and the lame Free Will argument
by Terry inthis is the one thing nobody is ever able to explain to me!.
if a genius designs something to operate in a specific way in order to obtain a precise outcome and it doesn't work---tell me again why we don't blame the genius designer/manufacturer??.
oh--that free will maguffin!.

Great post, as Terry's usually are.
Billy the Ex-Bethelite:
Terry,
You're missing the most important part of the issue... the naked lady and the talking snake. Long story short--women shouldn't have free will. Isn't that the moral of Genesis?
LMAOL!
By the way, who should we suppose gave Satan (aka "The Talking Snake") free will? And, to what end?

Do Jehovah witnesses exploit the most vulnerable in society?
by Blind_Of_Lies induring my final few years being active with the jws i noticed that the vast majority of people who were studying or joining the group in general where those that the rest of society would consider disabled and/or severely mentally ill. now by disabled i dont mean i lost my leg in nam kind of disabled... in some cases these people were mentally retarded, had the minds of children, were severely abused as children or even as adults and as a result had personality disorders that put them on the edge of society.... and then we had the full on crazies... about 15 years ago one of the brothers who worked at the local welfare office somehow started a study with a person who was a paranoid schizophrenic.
he met her because she was a client of the welfare office.
she got handed off to a sister who studied with her, then started driving her to her doctors appointments, and to get grocerys, and took her to congregation events.

One could perhaps play the Watcthwower's advocate and say that people who are positive and uplooking will be less receptive to the so-called truth, and, also, that those who join the Watchtower "perceive" they have been helped with their problems. But, that would be a lie. All cults exploit weaknesses. They know they would not be accepted if they did otherwise.

It's interesting that Steven Hassan says that cults aren't interested in the damaged goods, but on people they can get "some juice" from. I would say that all cults exploit weaknesses, and being an outcast is certainly one.

risc of allowed fractions
by inbetween ina brother in my hall mentioned in a twist of scriptures how we can thank the faithful slave class for warning us in connection with blood transfusions since 1945, because now the medical field recognises the riscs and try to minimize the use of blood.. despite the fatcs, that this statement is ridicolous in so many ways, i d like to find information (outside the "apostate" realm) that proves, that even allowed fractions are involing the risc of getting hepatitis, aids etc.... that would completely refute such a notion.. thx in advance... .

I would assume that all "fractions" could be contaminated. That does not mean they could also be clean and save lives.

Letter to the Writing Department from Barbara Anderson
by Dogpatch ini thought i knew you.
an open letter from barbara anderson to watch towers writing department.
in 1517, martin luther wrote in a letter to archbishop albert of mainz: you must graciously forgive that i, that scum of the earth, am so bold as to dare to address a letter to you.. yes, i know, you think of me as scum, just like mainz believed of luther, wondering how i dare write you a letter, someone jehovahs witnesses disfellowshipped back in 2002. i was accused of being an unrepentant sinner and condemned for causing divisions, then labeled apostate because i spoke out publicly on nbcs dateline tv program aboutthe child sexual abuse policies that protected pedophiles policies that you helped formulate.

The letter may not have been read by anyone at the Watchtower headquarters, but it will be read outside. People who may be thinking of joining the cult find it much easier to understand just how bad it is from the personal accounts told by former members. Even if the letter is not read by them at the Watchtower, it makes sense.

The gun is the SHUN: the JW's who no longer believe but cannot leave!
by Terry inthe insidious bind the watchtower religion places on their members is unconscionable.. holding family and friends "hostage" as an extortion strategy may be their most potent weapon of enforced conformity.. .
in effect, like an armed criminal who points a gun at you and threatens "your money or your life", the watchtower leadership.
holds the power to separate dissenting members from those whom they most cherish.

And this policy is enforced by shuns of the gun .

Failed Marriages..."Born ins"
by xelder init is impossible to unweave the complex cobweb of a failed marriage and totally understand it, let alone to generalize the occurance for many other couples.
but, let's assume the case of a marriage of two typical jw born-ins.
as far as jw's go, they grew up without major disfunction, still talk to their parents, etc.. in cases like this, how many of these couples are still together?
