I understand what you say, Rebel 8, and I can but respect it, but I don't think the worldlies would see you as the tainted girl. At least not the ones I live among.

Opinions on keeping your identity secret
by rebel8 insome ex-jws feel strongly we should all be "out of the closet" so we can present real faces to the public on the issue of cult dangers.
to those folks i say, more power to you, all the best.. for my own life i have a different approach.. compartmentalizing is healthy for me.
it keeps my past in the past.

Christians Expect Too Much of God Compared To Witnesses?
by passwordprotected inmy wife and i were chatting about this last night.
having left the jws, we quickly became heavily involved in a born-again christian church, and the culture associated with it.. i've completely jettisoned any faith in supernatural god beings, and we were chatting about how intense christians are about god and how much they expect their version of the sun god to do in their lives.. however, as witnesses, you always had a fairly low expectation of jehovah, right?
you never really expected him to "show up" and help you, did you?.

I would say that other Christians expect God to have a personal interest in them, which would become manifest in their prayers being "heard". It seems to me that Jehovah's witnesses see their god as some kind of spy who is just waiting to catch them red handed.
Incidentally, that was the way I was raised as a Catholic - that God would see me if I misbehaved. Then they began insisting that God is love, that he is not mean, et cetera, for the simple reason that it became hard to keep the flock if the shepherd was such a bad guy.
In my opinion, this is one of the real reasons why Evangelicals are making such inroads in places such as Latin America. They are telling people that God loves them, cares for them, will heal them (in the "away with the crutches!" style), et cetera.

F&DS does not exist?
by leaving_quietly inhttp://jwnewsnetwork.wordpress.com/2012/03/11/criminal-prosecution-of-the-christian-congregation-of-jehovahs-witnesses/.
it was mentioned in here that the attorney claimed that the f&ds does not exist and is only a theological arrangement.
i apologize if this has been thoroughly discussed before, but i couldn't find anything concrete.

I agree with Band on the Run. I think the death penalty should not exist, on account of potential "mistakes" like this one.

What do atheists and agnostics typically do for their funeral services?
by tootired2care inin contemplating my current beliefs in life right now, it occured to me that my views as an agnostic would probably make for a strange funeral service if my friends and family were to have one.
strange in that most funeral services always have some mention of god, and some religious context with afterlife explanations.
has anyone ever been to a non-religious funeral service for someone who was atheist or agnostic and what was it like?

I'm afraid atheists and agnostics are very different people and they won't all choose to go the same way.

LongHairGal:
The elders do not CARE about the confidentiality or feelings of the rank and file witnesses. While every elder may not reveal confidences, you forget that there is a body of elders and if other elders spill the beans, the secrets are out. It does not matter how discreet one elder may be if every one of them is NOT. If one guy keeps his mouth shut, it is to no avail if the others told every Tom, Dick and Harry (including their wives).
That is precisely my point. I was responding to what Scott77 wrote, about the elders lacking "Biblical" guidelines. They don't need biblical guidelines regarding themselves. What's more, if there were (or are) any, like everyone else, they will ignore them if that suits them.

I have never been a witness, but I wonder if any elder will speak about his sexual escapades, for example. Or if they will publicly say that they have a two-witness rule regarding child rape.

Scott77: With all due respect, I beg to disagree with you. I'm sure these elders know how to keep their mouth shut when speaking would damage them or the Mother organization.

Just asking because a Catholic priest is supposed to undergo penalties if he breaks confidentiality. I assumed nothing would really happen to an elder, particularly if he breaks a secret that's hot and interesting for everyone to know, but I was wondering if "technically" a loose tongue would be subjected to some kind of token penalty. As in "you won't do the dishes for the congregation for a week".
I see Blond Moment is telling me there is nothing of the sort.
So I guess that would be a good point to start, Original Poster. They claim "no elder ever broke confidentiality", but, in their books, there is no penalty for breaking confidentiality anyways. It should make you think twice.
