BEAT that Child!
by Farkel inthis is sort of a continuation of threads on dubs and how they are conditioned to discipline their children.
someone questioned whether the society actually encouraged dubs to whup their children.
i only had enough time to dig up a few salient quotes from the wt magazine.

Sparlock: The Sociology of the former Jehovahs Witness community
by Las Malvinas son Argentinas inthewatchtower bible and tract society has unwittingly unleashed quite a viral sensation within the ranks of its former members.
to summarise what has happened so far:- become jehovahs friend dvd is released.
it is an animated feature aimed at children with modern computerised graphics.- the antagonist of the relatively brief cartoon is a self-described warrior wizard by the name of sparlock which was obtained by caleb, the young subject of this material.- the unnamed mother in this dvd guilt-trips young caleb into disposing of his sparlock toy.- the video goes viral within the ex-jw community, with youtube videos being posted of the video.

Las Malvinas wrote:
Sparlock most likely originated in the extremely limited and doctrinally challenged mental thought processes of one of the Society’s anonymous writers. Sparlock in of itself is of no great consequence. The sub-culture that produced such a dull tool for the masses is of more concern to me. They can release more and more of this drivel, and it will make little further impression upon me
The problem is the impression things like "Sparlock" will make upon the minds of children, not on the minds of those who already understand just how wrong that DVD is. Exposing that is also a way to criticize the sub-culture that created it. And, whether it was made by one of the anonymous writers or not, it got approved by the Governing Body, at the very least by a majority vote (two thirds).

Violia, . I kept Windows 98 for as long as I could. My reason to change was that I wanted to use pen drives with a capacity larger than 128 Mb.
Call me old-fashioned, but I have never understood why people ever used Word. WordPerfect (in its new versions) is far, far better, and cheaper, and has no learning curve. If you knew how to use WordPerfect 6, you know how to use WordPerfect X6. And your files are compatible.

I AM THINKING OF BECOMING A CULT LEADER- ANY SUGGESTION?
by Mr Facts ini am quite impressed at the power the gb wields globally and it prompted in me the strong desire to start my own religious cult.
i wouldnt any hurt anyone though, my goal is just to experience the privilege that power and authority gives and in the process grow financial empire.. i am presently putting down some strategies down in paper and i have been watching many videos on youtube and accessing cult-related materials, learning from cult leaders arround the world and observing their modus operandi.
please if you do have any suggestion, freely offer it, i will appreciate it so much.. .

Simple answer, please! Scientifically explain the origin of life coming from nothing!
by Silent_Scream inscientific method asserts nothing living can come from something non-living.
science is observable, science is reproducible.
a living thing coming from non-living matter has never been observed nor reproduced.. therefore, it takes faith in an unknown process to believe that that's exactly what happened in the beginning, with no evidence!.

Today's wt study article quotes a Nazi mass murderer as a reference
by fugue intoday's study article, "do not look at the things behind," from the 3/15/12 study edition, which was reviewed by blondie in her thread, has a footnote on paragraph 12.. the original-language word here translated refuse.

I would see this in a different light. For some reason, the Watchtower feels it can use the work of theologians "not in the truth" if it suits its purposes. The Writing Department can read those works, but the rank and file must not, and could have problems if they did. Now those are double standards.
But I still think that the fact that Kittel was a murderer and a nazi does not, on its own, detract from the fact that he could be right in the interpretation of one particular word from the Bible. It's a matter of simple logic. Even paranoids have enemies, or even a clock that is not working gives the righ time twice a day.

I used to stay a believer on the grounds Silent Scream is posting here. The funny or interesting thing is that I got to think that way after attending a (compulsory) lecture on Marxism, where we were told that some old fart had tried to prove that life would originate spontaneously from a dirt shirt, sweat and I forget what else, and of course that was not true.
But then the explanation we find in the Bible is not credible. One thing that always troubled me was just how the writer of Genesis got to know how God had created the world. Was he told by God himself? Or was he having an epyleptic seizure? Or was it an old wive's tale that got modified over time to scare unruly children? I don't know that, either. Why would the writer of such a relevant piece of information forget to give us his name? Something like "Me, Whatever in Hebrew, son of my father, who was the son of his father, who was in turn the son of my grandpa... this morning was told by God that He created the world in this way and another"?
And the story in the Bible is about the creation of this planet (which is not even identified as a celestial body that revolves around the Sun), not about the Universe. There is nothing in the Bible to tell us how come Saturn has rings, for example.
I find this explanation impossible to believe. I don't know how or if scientists will ever get to know how life started, or whether they will do it in my lifetime, but I do know that I do not find evidence to support the idea that God created the Universe.
The fact that we don't have evidence in favor of one theory does not prove another, which, by the way, is one of many.
No one has proved to me that rain doesn't come when a God named Tláloc breaks some vases with a stick. Should I believe that?

Not that I would defend the Watchtower or a killer of Jews, or would try to detract at all from Blondie's analyses (which are beyond me), but I don't see the relationship between the man being a murderer and his being wrong about that particular interpretation of the word.
