My Wife is demanding that I stop coming to this board.

okay, i am in a bit of a dilemma.

since i believe in honesty between marriage mates, i have been telling my wife about this board and my participation on it.

i feel it is only right so that she won't feel like i have anything to hide.

Gary, I'm so sorry to hear this, particularly because I know you were thinking about having a child with your wife. I didn't read all the posts, this time, but I know what my opinion has to be. You have to draw your line on the sand, you know? You have been exceptionally nice, I guess, and she needs to find resistance somewhere. And this isn't so only because this is where you find information about the society, but because any relationship needs to be a compromise. If you always say "yes" to everything, then you eventually get tossed to one side.

Stand your ground on this one.

As Flipper says, she is afraid of the information YOU are finding here, and she's afraid of the fact that she knows she won't get you into the Watchtower for as long as you keep your eyes open. Sorry.

Keeping your eyes open is even a moral duty, you know? You have a daughter who deserves better than the society. No one deserves the society, but your little girl should grow up free.

So sorry that all I can do is offer my moral support. We're all behind you, man.

Baptism

so i was thinking about baptism today, and something that was said in my jc meeting a few months ago.

i was baptized at the ripe old age of 10. yes that's right, 10. that should be illegal.

what kind of 10 year old knows what they want to do for the rest of their life?

I think Happy Guy has hit the nail. Baptism is an act of faith, a sign that you believe something. The society has changed it into a vow, a legal contract you have signed with THEM, not with the God you believed in when you baptized. That alone is reason enough for that "contract" to be invalid: you were thinking you were giving a proof of faith, not a lifelong commitment to an organization. And then, they don't seem to explain things too well, and the "contract" is entered into by one party who doesn't always have the "legal age" to do it.

On the other hand, I think it's always wise to avoid the absurd. If you no longer believed what you used to believe, what do they really want with you?

Hey! I just noticed something (maybe it's too late, but, anyways). OTWO says he made a vow to an organization, but this organization withheld information. I'm sure they did, and I don't think Big J would take it against him.

But, since when do you baptize into an organization? Since 1985. But, isn't baptism an act of faith? Why do you have to get baptized into an organization? And, what is supposed to happen if your faith changes?

I have one thought, Vowel Man. Who says you can't change your mind about your baptism, even if they baptized you when you were old enough to know what you were doing?

By this I don't mean you don't have a point in saying that you were baptized at 10 and that should count in your favor when wanting out. What I mean is, you can change your mind, can't you? If the society encourages you to get baptized, and supposedly it's your own decision, why can't you decide otherwise later?

And, let's not make mistakes. Jehovah didn't make you get baptized. The people in your congregation did. Or, are we now to say that they are the same as Jehovah?

I don't believe in any gods, but, for the sake of argument only, let's just say that Jehovah would be a bad God if he were to take as valid the pressure a group of people exerted on a child. Or, if he were the kind of God who won't let you change your mind. And you can fulfill your obligation to Jehovah without them, can't you? Why does Jehovah have to use a fallible elder?

have you seen what appears to be 2 different groups of annointed?

perhaps one selected/predestined by jehovah and another not predestined by invited by jesus?

Pinatas?

i recall reading somewhere on this site that the pinata was originally used in worship of a sun god and that in spite of this, the wt society allows this tradition.

is this true?

i was presenting this conundrum to my wife and i wanted to verify this information..

You know, in some countries they make pinatas that are really depictions of TV characters, such as Sponge Bob or Bart Simpson, for example. Would it be OK if the pinata in question were made in the image and likeness of Rutherford, or Jaracz, and were hung by the neck? I can imagine many a brother having a hell sheol of a lot of fun!

On the other hand, we could order one in the image and likeness of a Smurf, and fill it with small rubber smurfs made in China!

If I have understood correctly so far, the "generation that would never pass away" consists of the anointed. So, the fact that these guys were old was seriously taken as proof that "the time left is reduced". But then, if anyone can claim to be one of the anointed, what this means is that the visible sign of everthing JW rests on a few people feeling they have a special calling. And who can prevent a 12 year old from feeling he has a speciall calling? Where does that leave the religion?

Sorry, this is a very big hole in the WT theory. I am of the anointed because I claim to be one of the anointed, and that's enough proof.

he told me that he had been going back to meetings and written 2 reinstatement letters.

Let me be the ignorant here.

How does an anointed know he is anointed?

How do the non-anointed recognize him as one truly anointed, instead of someone who thinks too much of himself?

What keeps the non-anointed from wishing that they, too, will share heaven, instead of having to survive Armageddon, work hard (for a mere thousand years), have no sex (for a mere thousand years), be taken for a plaything by Jehovah, in his releasing Satan so he can tempt them into sin again and Jehovah can have a second chance at destroying them, and ONLY THEN living a life worth living? I am sorry, but I see a lot of reasons why I would claim to be "one of the anointed".

And, do the anointed ever feel that they might lose their anointment after all?
