by MsPassach ini am so ashamed that i joined this site!
i thought that i would meet people here that honour jehovah here.
insread most of the people here are not here for the service of god.

I agree in general with what your all saying diffenetly more seclusionism . When I was a kid the halls I was famalier with were so close knit vacationing together parties picnics celebrating anything possible now people have broken off into smaller sections or none at all they dont trust eachother anymore or less then they did.Their used to be a o "so and so is a brother so he must be alright" attitude, not much now on some level at least women and parents know their culture is full of predators.

Getting rid of HUGE JW library
by jukief inmy husband, alanf, started collecting jw literature about 20 years ago when he began his indepth research into the religion.
his collection includes just about everything the society has ever published, from books and magazines down to booklets, pamphlets, and handbills.
some pieces are quite rare.

Is there anyone sick among YOU? Let him call the older men!
by TimothyT ini was reading the letter of james before and i came across a verse which a brother on my judicial comittee shown me:.
14 is there anyone sickamong you?
let him call the older men of the congregation to [him], and let them pray over him, greasing [him] with oil in the name of jehovah.

I had that passage read to me in the context of "spiritual sickness" in an elders meeting once. I remember thinking the greasing with oils bit was confusing becuase in other biblical texts thats how someone is appointed to something like samuel with soloman making him king.

At the age of 48 I just graduated with my BA degree from college and I am on top of the world
by booker-t ini thought i would never get my college degree from a university in this century at the age of 48 but i did it and graduated with an "a-" average.
i did this all the while working a full time job and going to school full time.
it can be done and now i love school to death.

Getting rid of the Book Study - a way to isolate the JW?
by skeeter1 inthe book study meeting was cancelled a while back.
the watch tower said that it was to provide for a family study night and high gas costs.
hmmm.. i thought about the cancellation of the book study meeting after listening to another pastor discus his mega-churchs dependence on small circle groups.

It was embaressingly ill attended so they just axed it. But yea control. They didnt want people talking "deep bible things" in small groups. No more book studies was actually a big red flag for my younger self as I really loved the book study. It was the only meeting I ever really liked.

The obsession of being a JW, and the obsession of an EX-JW is just as strong
by sinis inafter being on this forum for a long time, i am starting to realize that the obsession devoted to and surrounding leaving the organization is just as strong, if not stronger, than the obsession for the wts as a current jw.
its like a tiny bug eating and crunching away at the inner ear.
is this healthy?

I completly understand what your saying. but for me the obsession or interest in it is that I am trying to understand JW's and my own experince so I can understand myself more. I think thats a part of it for alot if not all of us

Positives of Growing Up JW
by Pig ini dont think any of us are glad we grew up in the org.
but i was thinking about people who get cancer, and if they are lucky enough to beat it often they will say that they were better for the experience.
before they got cancer they were stressed because they had to work extra hours in a shitty job to make ends meet, the kids were nothing but trouble and they spent their lives wishing that time would go faster, that week would be over, that the year would be over.

O Pig I completly agree with you!! to bad this thread seems to have turned into mournfull wearing out of woes dispite your good intentions. I know exactly what you mean about apprecaiting the normalness. I get giddy at Christmas, I love that I can make friends with anyone I choose. I apprecaite alot of things out of life people with no Witness background dont even understand. Just the simple joy of being just anyother person In the wide community that is all people, being a part of it all and not being scared
