  Too much bad language, sex & pics

  please can everyone think twice before they make posts containing bad language (even if not directed at individuals), graphic sex talk and nude or semi-nude pictures (especially if explicit).

  this is not what the forum is here for.

  if you want to post stuff like that then there are lots of places on the internet for it and, more importantly, if people want to see and read stuff like that then they are quite capable of going to these places themselves.. i know everyone likes to 'let their hair down' now and again, me included, and i like pictures of sexy women as much as anyone .

  I know that I really don't even have to state this, because it's very obvious: posts, language, and pics such as the ones Simon is referring to only serve to damage the credibility of this board and add fuel to the argument no doubt made by some that this board does not really attract poeple who are sincerely interested in finding out about the jw religion.

  It's great, I think, that this board has in a sense become a community. People who commune togther, from my experience, will no doubt speak frankly from time to time, and also joke and kid around quite often. That's a major reason why I'd much raher spend time here than at some of the other jw-oriented sites. But the credibilty of the board and thus those who frequent it should always be given consideration too.

  July 8th Awake! LOL

  has anyone else seen the july 8th awake!?.

  it's cover features a picture of a police man and a young boy and asks the question "police, why do we need them"?.

  does anyone else see the irony of this in light of the dateline publicity?

  I read the article, which praised police for their service and hard work. But, I noticed another irony....a brother who would want to work as a police officer would not be used for privilages in the congregation due to the fact that he could incur bloodguilt because of carrying a weapon.

  Harmony, we love the Simpsons here at home. I love the way they are juxstaposed to the Flanders in many epsiodes.

  We relate this to some families in the congregation who are like the Flanders...their lives are like a constant assembly-part demo. We are proud to be more like the Simpsons...we'll show up, but hey, we'll take Itchy and Scatchy any day.

  I'm really enjoying these replies....Noidea, you had me laughing hard, and same w your sis, lol....hope my wife doesn't feel the same way!

  Oh, here's another one of mine...Home Depot hardware stores. The commercials show these smiling clerks that are happy to take their time to assist customers. My experience at my local Home Depot has always been the opposite - I can't seem to get the clerks to stop and assist me, and when I finally do, I get the distinct impression that I am inconveniencing them. Also, (and maybe Mike was alluding to this same thing with Wal-Mart), the store is just so freakin' BIG. I know it has to be that way to carry some of the stuff a store like that must carry, but if I need an everday item or smaller stuff, I much prefer my local True Value store.

  One reason I enjoy posts like this (or like Naeblis's pic post) is that it's cool getting to know my fellow board members a little better.

  DB, I....oh, that's right, I am DB -

  Checking this thread after 25 posts so far, I have had some good laughs, and can relate to many of these posts. Oh, btw, my wife and daughter do accuse me of loud chewing, and we have lots of laughs about it at home. Because I don't breathe well from my nose, I seem to struggle with chewing properly. I am trying to improve.

  One thing I do get right is writing out my check at checkout at the grocery store ahead of time.

  But another little grocery store peeve is that I usually get in the line that appears to be short, only to have some delay happen ahead of me. Not a big deal unless I have milk or ice cream that is melting.

  Spiderman really blew me away, so right now, that's at the top of my chart.

  Since I am partial to Star Trek films, I'll mention First Contact too.

  Titanic was no favorite of mine, but seeing the people in the water really affected me.

  Rat Race might be on my list for best comedy. It starts slow, but gets very funny.

  Airwalk, thanks for the nice, fluffy post. Things have been so serious here lately, and rightfully so, with the whole Dateline thing and all. This post was a nice distraction!

  CO talk

  we had our second co talk yesterday, the topic of which was loyalty, thinly veiled as to one another, but dripping with threats toward those who might go against the society.. after the usual drivel about the society being god's organisation, and appreciating their junk food (as an aside, has anyone actually vomitted up any of this "food"??

  just wondering...), i was rudely dragged out of my slumber by the co's harsh declaration that we should shun all those who slipped away from the thruth, as they inactivity is a bad influence.

  he went on to heap the blame on them, "if they feel this way, then they should expect their due", "they bring shunning onto themselves" etc.... has it always been this way?

  fatal, interesting thread, and all the comments have been interesting as well.

  I might add that this could also be a case of having a CO in your area who has his personal little crusade going. Over the years, as they have come and gone, I (and many jws from my area to whom I have spoken about it) have noticed that each one seems to have his special rant, one CO being hung up on phallic symbols, one especially picky with the congregation record-keeping, one being very tough on appointed brothers meeting qualifications with regard to field service time, and so on.

  On the other hand, as has been mentioned, this would also seem to be a case of 'practice being different from print', which happens so ofetn in this organization.

  Is it natural to be with one person for a lifetime

  i've always wondered if there really is such thing as a paradise and a hope for eternal life would we be limited to interacting with only one person?

  the point could be argued from several perspectives.

  several scriptures would suggest that a man and woman once joined in marriage are to be tied only to each other indefinitely.

  Well, Solomon sure had the urge for variety, huh?

  I would think though that, if a man and woman were really deeply in love, they would want to be together forever. While the yearning for variety is there, and sometimes we all (especially men, it seems) probably wonder what it might be like to be a Solomon (or, hopefully, a little less than Solomonic, lol), I would expect that a man and woman would want to be together, and exlusive, in a really good relationship.

  Also, it seems to me that the desire to experience variety in some aspects of life, like eating, dress, interaction with friends, would not necessarily be desirable or best in such an intimate relationship as husband/wife, since the level of emotional commitment is so much greater.

  I've been studying.........

  i have been studying with the jw's for several years.

  they have been pressuring me to become one of them, but something seems to be holding me back, instinct maybe?

  i agree a lot of their teaching are good, and i'm sure are the truth but here are a few of the things that bother me: jw's use the scripture hebrews 10:25 not forsaking the gathering of yourselves together...... to justify their meetings.

  bchapp, welcome! I am an active jw, but I have some of the same concerns as you do; for example, you are right - Heb 10:24, 25 in no way sets a number of times to meet, and neither do the Greek Scriptures at all. We have no way of knowing how often Christians met back then. Also, the weekly service meeting is said to be in imitation of Jesus' meeting with his disciples before they went preaching, but there is no evidence that he did this each week and constantly had them preparing and learning new presentations.

  Currently, I have cut back on my attendance because I personally feel that once/twice per week is sufficient for me personally. And, though they won't say so openly, many jws do the same thing; there are many who seldom attend all 5 meetings each week.

  So by all means, take your time with this decision, and do not let them pressure you; in fact, they claim that thye don't pressure people - and they should live up to that claim, but many jws do not and instead exert pressure on those who show an interest in studying with them.

  My mom's circuit was disbanded

  well, i found out yesterday that the circuit that my mother attends will cease to exist as of this summer.

  the circuit has existed pretty much since the beginning of time.

  due to low attendance, and gradual drying up of all jw's in rural saskatchewan, they are closing one or two congregations every year.
