"jehovah,".... that name is being dragged through the filthiest filth of the world's media day after day and this god seems powerless to stop it.
does jehovah like the publicity of being associated with child molestation?
if not, why is he letting this happen to his "holy name?".
Pom, you've always made some good points about the name Jehovah, and your point is well taken here by me.
As far as God, or Jehovah, Yahweh, or whatever he'd like to be called is concerned, my feeling is that defending him has always been problematic for me personally. This is just a shade off-topic, but my feeling has been that God is a big boy, and he can take care of himself, so even if his name, whatever he'd prefer it to be, is dragged through the mud, or if people think badly of him, well, he can fight his own battles. The jws say that we should be quick to defend God; for me, I've never felt inclined to do that.
watch tower judges man on size of nose .
1921 "the size of the nose, as also the size of the eyes, is not without significance.
the small-nosed man cannot have a judicial mind, whatever his other excellencies may be.
That's why Pinocchio would make a good elder.
while having most enjoyed my 4 month tenure here at jwc, i have come across quite a few posters that leave me with this vomitous lynchian feeling in my stomach after having read their messages and responses or retorts to the community - not because they speak of sickening things, but because they are really, really goddamn creepy.
in my opinion, the creepiest poster i have come across is comforter.
he may not be the worlds greatest writer, or even all that scary, but he creeps me out nonetheless.. cast your votes for creepiest poster of all time.

Bad, what if someone votes for you? After all, that pic of the eye looks a bit sinister.
Actually, no one here really creeps me out......though the former poster HildaBingen was quite the strange one. That "Hilda In Christ" signature was weird.
writing should be for our own edification - a personal cleansing, therapeutic at the least.
if you write for other people's approval, you will be disappointed, especially when you share your thoughts on the 'net.
i've seen many folks get 'burn-out' from these boards b/c they don't get the expected respond to their post.
Larry, good topic, and some very interesting responses.
Since this topic is kind of "two-fold" I'll start with my feelings as a jw to the need for approval.....especially when I was "reaching out" for responsibilities in the congregation, I felt the need for approval by the elders. In fact, if you don't receive such, your chances of 'advancement' are limited.
As far as posting goes, I was wondering, and then ThiChi commented on it, which is really more important - the number of views, or the number of replies. I guess the number of views is not a totally accurate barometer of interest in a topic, because some people from time to time click on a subject to open it and then find that it's not all that interesting. But by and large, I think it can give some indication as to the level of interest in a thread subject.
As far as the reply part of it goes, for me, it all depends on the level of response I expect and hope for. For example, I start some threads already knowing that reponses will be limited due to the nature of the subject. I do think that if a person puts a good effort into a topic and hopes for a good number of repsonses, then does not receive them, yeah, there can be a bit of disappointment. One thing I do try to keep in mind though is that all threads die eventually.
i was wondering if any of you have read this tract that was given out at the district convention .. i found in this tract they are pushing the fulltime ministry more than ever before.
they in so many words say if you are not a fulltime minister you are not serving god.
it stated that youths today should not strive for academic success.
Excellent thread and replies - yes, it looks like still another generation of jw kids will be put on a guilt trip for trying to get and education and live a normal life rather than drive around in a car and talk to practically no one all day.
And as mimimus said, this ineed appears to be one more example of mixed message sent out.
Good point too about the fact that many, many jw adults are indeed enjoying what life in this system has to offer - nice cars, vacations, bigger homes. Many elders are enjoying such things, and then they get up on the platform and try to convince others to 'sacrifice'.
the issue of consent .
the issue of whether a person has consented to a particular action is a core part of our social relationships whether they be personal or group interactions.
to participate in any social relationship a person must on some level consent to that participation.
Excellent thread Lady Lee;
I, like so many others, was baptized when I was a teen, and looking back, I knew nothing about what really being a jw was all about.
My 'teacher' (long ago df'd and who was reproved publicly just after I was baptized) said to me after I studies for a few months "so, what are you waiting for?"; and only becuase he said that did the thought of baptism occur to me; I remember the feeling of embarrasment when he said that, as if not getting baptized would make me look like i was unwilling to progress. At that age, I just didn't know what to think.
There have been many times when I have wanted to somehow rescind my baptism.
i did not date until 19 ... and married the only person i dated.
he kept going of course ( which may of been the wise choice) for she may of done him in if he stopped.
luckily she made a mad dash for the door and made inside in record time.
This one was not really bad per se, but one time I dated a girl once and things just did not click. Well, a couple weeks later I got a call from a girl who claimed to be a friend of the girl I dated that one time. We made a date, and after we were in the car driving and talking, she revealed that she was the girl's sister.
I ended the date right then and there; I felt upset that the girl had not been truthful about her identity from the outset. However, looking back, I think I over-reacted. She seemed like a nice girl, and I think I should have given it a chance. I would think that she felt embarrased to identify herself as the sister on the first phone call. Also, from a guy's perspective, she was a very pretty young lady, and who knows, if I'd have been more forgiving, maybe would could have had a nice date.

i'm worried sick at the thought that bill bowen is in danger, and sincerely hope those near him will provide his family with protection.
if the following article on h2o by an anonymous poster bears any truth, then i recommend to bill that he asks the local police for 24 hour home protection (i.e., squad car drive-bys and surveillance).. http://www.aimoo.com/forum/postview.cfm?id=311102&categoryid=2967&startcat=1&threadid=238963.
bill, you and your family are in my prayers.
this whole page was intriguing, thanks for the post derrick.
