I agree with you, Terry. They are much more known for annoying people and for what they won't do, rather than for what they stand for.

Who really are JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES......really.....?
by Terry injehovah's witnesses don't expect to convert the world.
they expect to educate the world about jehovah's kingdom and his christ.. before: nobody knows about it.. after: everybody knows about it.. how would you measure what people "know"?.
how well informed is the average citizen in 2010 vs 1879, for example?.

When I was a jw, and I was confronted by someone that the wt changed the bible, I would give them the speech that all we did was restore Jehovah's name. They go through alot of scripture twisting to make their teachings fit. I wish I had been more bible savy before I became a witness, I may have never signed up.

What is the mission of those on this board?
by The Berean inventing, closure, confession, social networking, advocating a new direction, building a case to leave the borg, kicking a dead horse, assisting the abused, warning the public, cursing god and religion, justifying actions, filling time, belonging to something, education, identifying mental disorders, condemning hypocracy, highlighting errors of the past, making fun of other people, self pity, hope for recovery???.
as a newby, i can't tell ....

I just like to examine other viewpoints from others who have left. It's nice to finally be able to say what we are all really thinking. I don't have to keep my opinions to myself for fear of being reproved, dfed, whatever.

Welcome Hadit! I am also married to an active JW husband. It does present some challanges and occasionally some yelling matches, but it has gotten better.
Moshe, you are so right, fraud, and I wouldn't have joined up if I knew they could change the terms of "baptism contract" , so to speak, by changing their beliefs every so many years.

The Born Again Experience
by leavingwt ini enjoyed this essay by psychologist valerie tarico.
the born again experience.
i prayed harder and just then i felt like everything i was saying was being sucked into a vacuum.

Not all christians have these "feelings." For me, being born again, means to submit to Christ's leadership, and therefore being "born again" as "spiritual" children of God. To my knowledge, there is nothing in scripture that says we are to have some sort of "experience" Honestly, I can't relate to people, particularly the ones I see on t.v. , that claim to.
As far as tongues goes, I don't have it. I do believe it happened as stated in Acts. I don't know if it happens today or not. Personally, I prefer to pray in English.
So, I guess, as far as christians go, not all of us are emotional, or it is possible that I'm just cold hearted.

Yes, Jeff, they are, or at least my husband is, every day, nearly every minute. That was until I told him that I didn't care if the end was tomorrow, I still wouldn't go back to being a jehovah's witness.
