My son was murdered today
by truman ini have been on this site daily, almost from its beginning, since i left the jws in 2001, but i have been more of a reader than a poster, as you can see from my post count.
i know few here know me, although i know many of you through reading your posts.
maybe it is not right to ask for support, when i generally stay quietly in the background of this forum, but i want only to speak a human misery of the deepest kind.

is it normal for a father, to walk hand in hand in public with his adult daughter?
by varian intalking about europe and the western world....

I believe it depends on location, culture, etc. I don't think there is nothing wrong with it, but like someone said above, it could be seen as abnormal by others.

Well, everyone here pretty much summed it up. You are not obligated to meet with them, but if so, your house, your rules. If they can't abide by them, kindly show them the door.
If you do meet with them, just let them know that you are taking a break due to other more pressing issues and leave it at that. Do not let them press you for any information you wish not to discuss and do not let them control the meeting. You control the direction you want it to go in.
As far as your question, I wouldn't say that I have lied to the elders. I just don't divulge much of my concerns to them. Whenever I encounter a few JWs and elders who "innocently" inquire of my whereabouts or my "well-being" I let them know that I have more important issues going on and thank them for their concern and go about my business. I have not had an elder to want to meet with me and don't think they would want to since I have moved a couple of times out of the territory, but still in the area.

Are you sure leaving the JW religion has made your life better?. Lurkers think twice
by mankkeli inon this forum, i have carefully read most of the experiences of those who left the jw religion, i have even read experiences that have dated back to 2001, i have read the different circumstances surrounding their exits and what ensued upon leaving.
for the majority, i observed they are better remainning in the religion than leaving.
what benefit is there to strain family relationship because you want to be free?, please tell me, of what value is that freedom?,.

Since leaving the JWs, I have returned back to school to better my intellectual, social and financial position.
I no longer feel induced to guilt and unworthiness that were constantly drummed into my psyche from those indoctrination sessions.
I have formed better and more meaningful relationships with people of all backgrounds and do not judge their character based on WT sanctioned literature.
I have a better perspective on life and living it to the fullest and on my terms, free of the borg authority.
I am not DF or DA (yet). I have in some ways lost a lot of my connections with JWs other than my parents and even if that were the case, I am of the firm belief that what does not kill me will only make me stronger. If the time comes when I do decide to put in that DA letter (which is coming soon) and my parents should decide to turn their backs on me, as much as that may hurt me, I will live.

Kingdumb maladies stuck in your head...
by Leto ini had a dream last night that i went to a meeting.
the speaker announced we were going to sing the "we're jehovah's witnesses" song, to which i said an audible "dear god" which got a bunch of dirty looks from other people sitting by me.
so now i'm awake, sipping my coffee, and i have "we're jehovah's witnesses" stuck in my head.

"I remember as a kid, when someone would ask my father what he did for a living, he'd tell them he was a nuclear physicist, or some other outrageous lie. He'd look them square into their eye, so they'd know, that they just crossed a line and they should have minded their own business and not be concerned with how he made ends meet. They just wanted to categorize him, put a tag on him as to who he was."
Interesting and so very true too. Thanks for posting this Miz. The next person that comes to me wondering what I do for a living, I am going to look them straight in the eyes and say, "Living, fool!" lol
As far as reincarnation is concerned, let me come back as a flourishing tree in the woods somewhere.

I attended a Circuit a few years ago where they gave the personal experience of an 8 year old baptised regular pioneer girl and the same of her 10 year old sister. How their parents kept them on a very strict schedule that consisted primarily of "spiritual" things. It was very heart wrenching to hear this girl say that she really misses watching Saturday morning cartoons due to their having to go out in "early morning witnessing". A sister/friend who was with me and I gave each other the WTF look. Of course everyone in the audience clapped and the speaker praise them both for their "putting spiritual things first". Nevermind that you are condoning the actions of the parents to not give their daughters a damn normal childhood or to hold them accountable at such a young age for whatever "sin" they commit. Disgusting indeed.

"What I think and know to be racist will be explained away by folks who don't want to see it and in turn are often willing to turn it around and place blame on me for being overtly sensitive and racist on top of that thereby invalidating my reality and actually telling me that my opinion really doesn't matter."
Amen, Mrs. Jones. That's exactly why I do not bother to partake in these type of discussions, be it online or offline. To me, it is an exercise in futility.
