  What was your experience of working at an assembly hall build?

  i volunteered to help out at an assembly hall build about an hour away from where i live.. i thought it would be an amazing experience & was looking forward to it very much.. when i went to reception i was asked if i had any trade skills, it was just about then i began to realise because i had no 'blue collar' trade skills i would be treated as a lesser person.........maybe even a slight nuisance.. as all the 'brothers' busily carried out their 'manly' tasks it became quite a discouraging experience because i found other 'unskilled' jw's guarded their jobs very closely & said they did not need any help.. if it was a place of christian joy i did not find.. .

  I served mainly on some of the quick builds of congregations instead of an assembly hall. I just served food or may have helped with the cleaning and painting in doors. It was a good experience as I got to meet some people, cut-up and put my hands to good use. Sorry to hear your experience wasn't a joyful one.

  I did know that when they were in the process of rebuilding the assembly hall in my neck of the woods (it has since then been completed, but I haven't bothered to visit since I want nothing to do with JW) they mainly requested the assistance of those who have experience in some form of trade labor to take the lead of the work and for those who are unskilled to be more on-call for small projects.

  What KH didn't have a clique, two or three going on? Since friendships were severly limited to only those within the organization and even your fellow members were suspect, I guess some had to form their own miserable in-crowd to feel some sense of acceptance.

  for me it was many things.

  most concerned certain teachings that invloved genders, children, sex, sexuality and sexual orientations, disfellowshipping, apostates, blood, rape, and few other things, as well as the jw's unloving attitude toward so many people..

  I noticed in their facts section that they didn't mention how the FDS is the true mediator between Jehovah and mankind and how Jesus is really a nobody to them. Me wonders why they didn't bother to put that in there? I guess it doesn't look good for recruiting purposes.

  some of the proceeds will be going to .......... for permature babies who are sadly stole away to be angels in the sky.. this angered me greatly!

  Watersprout, I am with you on that one. I myself would never utter such a statement as I too find it distasteful and very disrespectful. I was saying that some may think it is acceptable to do so and their beliefs as to why.

  I second you, Pink. Some people do need to think before they speak.

  "Why why why would you say that to a grieving parent??? What's happened to ''I'm soo sorry'' or a hug to show that you care...."

  Honestly, I never heard anyone say anything like that to me or around me to a grieving individual. As a matter of fact, the first time I have actually heard this phrase was from Jehovah's Witnesses, but they were using this more as an illustration of their disbelief in all will go to heaven.

  I will either say my condolences for your loss and/or will give a person a comforting hug letting them know that I care and am there for them. If the person wishes to talk, I will be a listening ear to them.

  I can only guess the reason for such a phrase is because many can not understand nor accept the fact that innocent small children and babies die and use that phrase as a means of acceptance for a great loss.

  Interesting post, Minimus.

  No, I don't blame my problems on JW. I entered this religion of my own volition. Coming from a dysfunctional home life and living a very reckless existence makes one wonder if there is something more to offer in life. I felt the JWs offered that through the teachings that were "bible-based". I was looking forward to paradise, but then I began to rationalize that that concept is many years off and may never come in my lifetime. I need to live a life now instead of waiting on a concept that may never happen or was never real to begin with. Then I started seeing the lies of this religion and decided I had enough.

  Currently, I say being in a global recession and living in a very apathetic area contributes to some of my issues. However, in the end, I blame more on myself for not striving for the things I want and need in life. But, I am slowly getting there.

  Would You Refer To Jehovah's Witnesses As A "Christian" Religion?

  They are an anti-Christ religion and how could they call themselves Christian when they replace the very cornerstone of the faith with imperfect men? They might as well call themselves "The Governing Body Order of Jehovah's Witnesses".
