I would think you could make a sub-group that you could only get into by agreeing to a waver like was mentioned by simon, but make it more objectionable like "by agreeing to become part of xxx group, you acknowledge that the FDS are not, or never have been, directed by God. blah blah blah..." I think at some point, agreeing to be part of that group would get you in just as much trouble as anything they could find in there. It would be like a JW signing the release form from the concentration camp... you couldn't just sign that and say "oh spiritual warfare, I could save more people while out of prison and not being executed"...

Private Discussion
by besty insimon.
as most people seem to have worked out the private discussion and support part of the forum is not private beyond requiring a username.. today nugget and cantleave are having printouts of their posts in this section being used in evidence at their jc.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/members/private/204436/1/nugget-and-cantleave-are-no-longer-jehovahs-witnesses.
my suggestion is, if its possible, to create an invite-only section of the board for truly private support.. .

I think its a very nice attempt but ultimately this is a fight that you cannot win. Its like coming up with a legal argument why your lunch table in high school can't turn on you and make you stop sitting with them... if a bunch of people want to ignore you (the JWs), then they are free to do so. You can't MAKE someone keep you in a voluntary group.

Population 7 billion. Changes ahead.
by Lion Cask inaccording to the world population clock, we're going to hit the magic 7 billion number this year.
that's 7,000,000,000,000 living human beings on this planet.
the world is about to change, again.

We will solve the problem of human aging: by 2050 we will have the technology to live as long as we choose to.
That sounds nice human aging right now is the only good solution we have to the real problem of overpopulation. The exponential growth rate means that non-renewable resources are depleting at a increasing rate: those problems are going to come to a head in a matter of a few decades (maybe less). If you had unlimited aging within 50 years, that means you have to go from hundreds of millions of babies a year to ... basically none. And how are you going to start telling all these different countries to stop producing babies? You're saying that "oh well basically the birth rate will somehow come down". But then you also say, the death rate will drop to nearly zero. There's no way to bring those two concepts together, outside of being able to colonize other planets or solar systems (which we are nowhere near 50 years to being able to do)

Voting a conscience matter??
by Cynisister inhappy new year one and all!,.
the local elders sent a letter home with my hubby, pretty much stating that after "many" attempts to visit and speak with me, this letter is once again asking to meet because it came to their attention that i voted in the last pres.
election.

Hey you're perfectly ok I think:
Bring a copy of the '99 article with you that makes voting a conscience matter. Say that, as they know, you've been away for a little bit, you thought this was the understanding, you're sorry if its not, and you won't vote anymore. Say you got a misimpression from that article, which is understandable.
Then should then give you the corrected viewpoint, you accept it, and you should be fine.
When your hubby's parents pass, then do what you want but just try to be quiet about voting until then.

While in, did you ever rationalize questionable behavior, entertainment, even sin as justifide?
by miseryloveselders ini'm not the biggest fan of depeche mode, but a couple of their albums were actually ok. there's one track by them i've always loved called, "strangelove" from their music for the masses album, and the lyrics remind me of my own thought process at times.
the lead vocalist sings at one point, "i give in, to sin, because you have to make this life livable.
looking back on it, i feel that i needed to watch that fight.

Playing along to these comments as if I was MLE:
He KNOWS it would be fun. He knows how to ask the girl out and have a good time and get her to like himm I'm guessing. But then what? Now you're stuck in a direction and no matter what happens, you're going to have to make some serious decisions which are going to hurt some people badly (her.. or family or friends... or yourself). It's easy to say "oh don't think about that." But how exactly does one turn their mind off to thinking about all these crazy consequences of being stuck in the middle of two worlds, not being sure which one to be in, and knowing you can't be in both? I haven't found a way to do that. -

Got "THE letter" ....how to proceed?
by 2pink inmy husband and i faded/mysteriously disappeared from meetings over a year ago.
we've had a few visits from elders (where we said very little but thanked them for their time), the last one being when we had some nice jack o lanterns sitting on our porch.
on saturday, we got letters cordially inviting us to our beheading, i mean, our judicial committee meeting.

lol, well, if the house is decked out I agree. If its just a few odds and ends say that a group of kids came around selling jack-o-lanters for cancer research and we couldn't turn them down, although we realize it was probably the wrong thing to do. Ours hearts just broke and we couldn't launch into an anti-holiday speech. We're very sorry, obviously we'll take them down...
I dont know be creative.

So, what, you're going to spend the rest of your life trying to ignore them?
You're not goign to ignore your way out of this, I'm sorry.
I'd go and just lie. I mean: jack-o-lanterns? Thats it? Can't you come up with some BS excuse for that?

Yeah violia,
Thats not necessarily so easy for a guy that has been confused and pent up and conflicted about how to act, how to be decisive, etc. I know because I think I'm in a similar mental situation as MLE.
Its just very difficult. You're stuck in this inexperienced, awkward stage of trying to make everyone happy; trying not to let anyone down; trying to see if you're still happy while you're juggling everything else.
My guess is if you hook up with this girl (or any girl, JW or otherwise), and it didn't work out or wasn't making you happy, that you'd have a very difficult time ending it, even if there was nothing left in the relationship for you.
I dont know, its hard to explain. And its not that he's a geeky shy guy that doesn't know how to attract a girl. I just think that being a conflicted JW for so long has really short-circuited the decision making process

What % of current JWs sincerely believe Armageddon will come within the next 30 years?
by jj123jj123 injust to give you a little background about myself, i was a born-in, i'm in my late 20's now, i faded away a few years ago after researching the history of the wtbs on the internet.
my fade was aided by moving away with my job(i definately feel lucky about that).
eventually, i had discussions with a couple of my closer jw friends about why i no longer believed in the wtbs.

"so many good people live worse lives than they could simply because they were sold a lie."
Then again, a lot of people live better lives because of a lie. Not speaking of JWs specifically but believing in a purpose beyond this short life we have, believing in seeing your dead loved ones again, etc, is a very comforting and soothing thought. I sincerely believe there are many people not equipped to handle the pains of life as a conscious being. And there are many people in unspeakably horrible conditions who might not be able to live through those conditions without giving way to despair if not for the hope given them by religion.
Example: Suppose a wife, totally in love with her husband, had two options: 1) life the rest of her life happily married and blissfully ignorant of his transgression or 2) know the truth and never get married again. If you ASKED her if she would want to know the truth she'd say yes. And if she found out the truth, she'd never say "i wish i never knew and he just kept on cheating on me behind my back". But she would have been happier if she had not known. Its an interesting situation reallyh.

What would they do if a person dropped in $100,000? Would they say the operating expenses were $105,000?
I always wanted to drop in a fake check for some huge amount and see what they would say...
